Abstract
The purpose of this study is firstly to identify how three destinations are working focusing on destination development organizations and collaboration between private and public actors , but also to perform a comparative analysis of how destination management affects a destination.
To fulfill the purpose an interview study is conducted with representatives from the public and private sectors at the destinations in question. The theoretical framework on which this study is based on the affect factors of competitiveness of destinations, further processed also the interdependencies that occur between private and public actors in one destination followed by theories of partner organizations.
It is finally found that destination management , however it is organized , is affecting tourism development at the destination. However, it is clear that a comprehensive organization in the form of a destination management organisation or similar is essential for destination success. With such organizations also follows the objectives and procedures , including how the funding of tourism, its development and its marketing should be done.
