ABSTRACT
Over the recent years, Sweden has developed a vision for becoming one of Europe‟s leading culinary destinations. As a result, there have been considerable interest and activities in developing regional "foodscapes" throughout the country. Towards this goal, many activities have taken place in the county of Jämtland during 2011. Östersund, the capital, joined UNESCO‟s Creative Cities of Gastronomy network and was elected as the first culinary capital of Sweden. Within this context, based on recognized gaps through a one-year project, this exploratory study focuses on key stakeholders‟ perception of foodscape development in Jämtland County. This study draws on theory associated with of community development and tourism (destination development). Through qualitative research on the case study of Jämtland-Härjedalen‟s foodscape, and using methods including literature and documents review, secondary data obtained from recent food-related project in the region, participant observation, and focus-group discussion, the study concludes that regional foodscape development perceived as great potential for economic development of the region through creative tourism and suggests future studies with focus on technical assistance and network development towards implementing of the desired development.
