The Preisach model is a phenomenological model that describes a rate-independent hysteresis. Traditionally it is identified from first order reversal curves (i.e. time-series measurements) of the hysteretic system. However, depending on the application, these measurements can be of different quality, which result in a non-accurate model. The present paper deals with alternative methods for identifying the Preisach model from measurements of time-series, losses and higher harmonics, so that measurement noise is reduced, and the resulting model reproduces the considered system more precisely. In particular, experimental design, non-parametric and parametric models and estimation procedures are considered. Examples are given for modelling of superconductors.
