Abstract [en]

Recent findings have revealed that air quality in Östersund is poorer than previously assumed, failing to meet established threshold values. In response, the municipality has initiatedmeasures to reduce car usage by promoting cycling, including the construction of new bikepaths along less congested routes. This study focuses on assessing air quality along the mainbike paths in Östersund, aiming to compare pollution levels, particularly PM10 and PM2.5, withthose on alternative routes. Additionally, the study examines the influence of variousmeteorological factors on pollutant concentrations. Results indicate higher levels of particulatematter along the main bike paths compared to the alternatives, with meteorological factorsimpacting PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations. These findings underscore the dynamic nature ofair quality, influenced by multiple factors over time. The measurements in this study exceed thethreshold values multiple times, so this report does also include alternative solutions to improvethe air quality along the main bike paths in Östersund.
