Atea & Arbetet Mot En Mer Cirkulär Ekonomi

Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This bachelor’s thesis explores how Swedish companies integrate sustainability considerations into the procurement of IT equipment, with a particular focus on circular economy principles. The study is based on a case study of Atea, a leading IT infrastructure supplier, as well as a survey and a semi-structured interview with one of Atea's business developers. The findings reveal that while many companies express a desire to work sustainably, there is a clear gap between sustainability goals and practical implementation. Few companies use sustainability certifications such as TCO Certified, Energy Star, and EPEAT in their procurement processes, and circular practices such as reuse and take-back are rarely integrated into IT strategies. A lack of communication between IT and sustainability departments is identified as a key barrier to adopting circular solutions. The study recommends increased use of sustainability certifications, stronger collaboration between departments, and a greater focus on circular economy principles in IT procurement. By implementing these measures, companies can contribute to a more sustainable IT sector and reduce the environmental impact of e-waste.
