Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This thesis investigates how different AI tools can be used to improve the efficiency of software development. The study is based on three research questions: which AI tools are most suitable for software development, how the code quality differs between them in terms of readability and documentation, and which working methods and rules increase the efficiency of their use. The work was limited to three AI tools, Cursor, Windsurf, and Claude Code. They were tested across identical development scenarios with varying prompt quality and rule application. The results show that Claude Code performed best overall, especially in terms of efficiency and readability. The results also highlight that detailed prompts and clearly defined rules significantly improve the outcome regardless of the tool. However, all tools showed limitations when handling complex tasks that require deeper understanding, underlining the continued importance of human oversight. The study concludes that AI should be used as a complement rather than a replacement and that a structured approach to AI integration can contribute to improved efficiency and code quality.
