The purpose of this study is to investigate journalistic portrayal and
professionalism in Swedish true-crime podcasts. We want to see how the
various podcasts relate to tension and dramaturgy, as well as how the podcasts
do to create objectivity and factual management.
Based on this we constructed three questions of issue that we seek to answer:
1. What does the journalistic embodiment look like in the podcasts: P3
Krim, Fallen jag aldrig glömmer and Rättegångspodden?
2. How does P3 Krim, Fallen jag aldrig glömmer and Rättegångspodden,
work to upkeep its journalistic professionality?
3. How do P3 Krim, Fallen jag aldrig glömmer and Rättegångspodden
relate to journalistic ideals?
The theories in use during this study are mainly from Denis McQuail & Mark
Deuze book “Media & Mass Communication Theory”. These are the theories:
Framing, Agenda-setting, Uses and gratification and New Media theory.
We have deemed these theories to be the most relevant for our study and see
them to cover a wide area of what this study touches on.
The method in use is a qualitative content analysis and we will be analyzing a
total of fifteen podcast episodes from three different podcasts.
The results showed that there are, of varied degree, occurrences at which the
journalistic ethics are very well, somewhat and barely followed. On the
occurrences in which they are not followed it is often due to a preferation of
including coarse details for the purpose of unease.
