How do seasonal workers get socializedinto their work and learn organizationalculture? : A qualitative study that investigates how seasonal workers learnwork tasks and organizational culture in an organization with themajority of seasonal personal. (English)
Abstract [en]

This thesis aims to investigate how seasonal employees in a specific organization are socialized into their work and learn the organizational culture. This study uses a qualitative method and was conducted using semi structured interviews, based on five interviews with seasonal workers in anorganization where majority of the employees have a seasonal employment. Using Wenger’s theory of Communities of Practice as a theoretical framework the study examines organizational socialization. The study’s findings indicate that the organizational culture is learned with the help of formaltraining, in introductory programs and through social interactions with colleagues. Seasonal employees learn their work tasks partly through introductory programs but predominantly throughinformal interactions with colleagues in the form of informal mentorship. Within the studied organization, several organizational methods are used to teach work tasks and organizational culture. Formal training, teambuilding exercises and informal mentorships are all utilized in the socializationprocess.
