Abstract [en]

This essay aims to investigate how gang crime is highlighted by the two largest political parties in Sweden to see which discursive elements appear most clearly in the respective parties and in the public debate, and also what is not made visible. The analyzed material is obtained from a limited time period in the fall of 2023 when gang violence escalated and the month , September, during which the most shootings since 2016 occurred.

This shed new light on gang crime with an accompanying debate about causes and measures for this problem, which is relatively large in Sweden, in comparison with the Nordicc ountries but also with other European countries. It is an interesting period of time where the escalation of gang crime is high on the political agenda and made visible in the public debate, which shapes and constitutes our views of gang crime moving forward.
