Abstract [sv]

Inom industrin pågår en femte industriell revolution vars tyngdpunkt är människans nyttjande av avancerade teknologier. En av de centrala teknologierna är Artificiell Intelligens (AI). Utvecklingen medför motsvarande paradigmskifte inom kvalitetsutvecklingen. Utvecklingen går snabbt och företagsledare prioriterar kvalitetsförbättringar med stöd av AI högt. Undersökningar visar dock att många misslyckas och det går att ifrågasätta om de trender och möjligheter som beskrivs är möjliga och önskade för företagen att genomföra i praktiken.

Syftet med studien har varit att bidra med kunskap kring hur artificiell intelligens relaterar till nuvarande samt framtida kvalitetsarbete och kvalitetsutveckling. Studien bygger på en kvalitativ ansats där data samlats in genom intervjuer med nio ledare från två verksamheter vars arbete relaterar till AI på olika sätt. Resultatet tyder på att den tekniska mognaden i organisationerna är hög och ett flertal AI-modeller har kunnat lanseras framgångsrikt. Utmaningarna är dock många och centrerar kring datakvalitet och -tillgång, kompetens, medarbetarnas delaktighet, bristande datadrivenhet, förändringslednings-utmaningar samt lagkrav. Ett antal framtida användningsområden har också identifierats. Resultatet styrker i hög utsträckning den forskning inom ämnesområdet som studerats inom ramen för examensarbetet.

Abstract [en]

A fifth industrial revolution centring on the use of advanced technologies is ongoing. One of the central technologies is Artificial Intelligence (AI). The development has initiated a matching paradigm shift in Quality Development. Progress is fast and executives are giving quality improvements supported by AI high priority. However, studies show that many AI-initiatives fail, and it is questionable whether the trends and possibilities described are feasible and desired for companies to implement.

The purpose of the study has been to contribute with knowledge of how AI relates to current and future quality work and quality development. The study is based on a qualitative approach where data has been gathered through interviews with nine leaders from two companies whose work relates to AI in different ways. The result indicates that the technical maturity of the two operations is high, and several AI models have been introduced successfully. Several challenges centring on data quality and availability, competency, employee participation, lack of data literacy, change management challenges, and legal requirements have, however, been identified. Further, several future uses cases have been identified. The result strongly supports the conclusions of the research within the topic which has been studied as part of the thesis.
