Abstract [en]
The corrosion of pipelines in the oil and gas industry is a major concern
from an economic standpoint, as well as it is a major safety and environ-
mental issue. In this thesis, the digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities
of chosen microcontroller are investigated. The end goal is to use the mi-
crocontroller to create a time-of-flight algorithm and find an accurate pipe
wall thickness. There are some limitations to the DSP capabilities of the
microcontroller, but it is nevertheless possible to create a good time-of-flight
algorithm. The finite impulse response (FIR) filter implemented on the mi-
crocontroller showed promising results with very low power consumption and
memory usage. A software test bench was created to aid in the development
process of the algorithm.
