Climate Change Education
Abstract [sv]
Climate Change Education held in Sigtuna, Sweden, March 28-30, 2009, is a joint arrangement between Uppsala University, the institute for Research in Education and Sustainable Development (IRESD) and Sigtunastiftelsen. The purpose is to clarify the meaning of education in relation to climate change, to initiate a critical discussion about teaching, learning and ethics affiliated with climate change, and to create an African-Swedish research programme on climate change education and ethics. It addresses climate change education in relation to mitigation, adaptation and social, economic, and ecological vulnerability. Thus its focus on how educational practices can deal with enhanced risk, insecurity, and ethical responsibility in the face of climate change is an important contribution to research in education and sustainable development:-What is the relationship between climate chance education, democracy, and global responsibility? -How can we deal with issues of global and local insecurity accentuated by climate change? -What is the relationship between climate change education and existing traditions of environmental education? -What is the meaning of prior experiences for climate change education? -What is the role of narrative and of formal and indigenous knowledge in climate change education? -How can climate change education contribute to facilitating adaptation practices? -What is the relationship between climate change education and eco-social justice?
