Making IT happen - A study of the advanced use of digital technologies in Swedish upper secondary schools
Abstract [sv]
The aim is to analyse and compare how digital practices are incorporated and developed in three upper secondary schools in Sweden known for their advanced use of digital technologies. From a longitudinal and multi-level perspective, the project will investigate how the school leaders, teachers and students at each school incorporate different forms of knowledge within and between the different subjects and levels of the schools organisation. The project will also examine how digital practices are developed in relation to each other and the conditions under which this takes place in each school. Data will be gathered from policy documents, school leaders, teachers and classroom practices. The methodology will include video-observations, individual and group interviews and content analyses of the digital resources, steering- and policy documents. The TPACK framework will be used to analyse the enactment of digital technologies in relation to task perception, agency and the circumstances of school leadership, teaching and learning. The project is considered important because it will generate multidimensional and evidence-based knowledge about how digital technologies contribute to and are intertwined in the development of upper secondary schools as holistic educational organisations and how they shape the school leadership, teacher collaboration and different subject and content cultures in order to facilitate teaching and learning.
