Israels omvändelse som jordens fulländning: Antijudiskhet och antisemitism i Missionstidning för Israel 1874–18852014In: Makt, myter och historiebruk : Historiska problem i belysning / [ed] Stefan Dalin, Sundsvall: Mittuniversitetet , 2014, 1, p. 123-142Chapter in book (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this contribution is to study how Jews and Judaism is viewed among evangelical Christians in Sweden as reflected in the journal Missionstidning för Israel (Mission Magazine for Israel) 1874–1885. The journal was founded in Stockholm in 1874 within the Swedish Lutheran Church and was published by Svenska Israelsmissionen, an association for Christian missionary activity among the Jews. The way in which Jewish people were depicted stemmed from hostile Christian traditions. The Jews were said to be rejected by God because of their blindness, disobedience and rebelliousness, and furthermore they are repeatedly blamed for the crucifixion. But themes from contemporary secular anti-Semitism can also be found in the texts, for example, Jewish control over the banking system, economy and media in order to dominate the world. The Jewish people were por-trayed as hostile towards God and a threat to Christianity and Christian society. However, eventually all Jews will turn to Christ, and that will be the beginning of a new order and the perfection of mankind. This mind-set is similar to what is often called redemptive Anti-Semitism: The Jewish people are the key to human perfection.

Platsens betydelse vid borgerlig ritualisering2018In: REHN, 6-7 september 2018 i Umeå, Sverige., 2018Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This thesis studies how young adults in today's Swedish Pentecostal congregations describe their beliefs and their congregational life. The thesis applies a theoretic frame of Rational Choice Theory and compares the results with previous research/adjacent studies close to the field.

The relevance of this thesis lies in that research on young adults in the Swedish Pentecostal movement is a comparatively unexplored area.

The reason to write about young adults in the Swedish Pentecostal movement is rooted in the prospect that this thesis could be a starting point for further studies on young adults in the Swedish Pentecostal movement.

The thesis was a qualitative and quantitative multi-method study. The thesis is based on interviews and a questionnaire survey in order to present how young adults in today's Swedish Pentecostal churches describe their beliefs and their congregational life.

The thesis identifies some issues that can be raised and investigated in further research on thistopic.

    Summary of the results

The young adults describe that their faith becomes stronger by being part of a Pentecostal congregation. The community of the congregation, both in the smaller and the broader context, confirms the faith which makes their belief stronger. They perceive God as a protector and caretaker, and that God listens to their prayers and cares about them. The subjective part of the faith (the personal relationship with God) they experience as necessary, but they feel that the subjective relationship with God both can be experienced in the church community and solitude. Most of the young adults say they would consider switching the congregation (leave the congregation) if they would not thrive in the congregation or if it would not meet their expectations and needs.

The interviews show that the respondents indicate certain preferences that they want to get satisfied and they want to belong to a congregation that can fulfil this. Getting their preferences and needs met is the key to the congregations if they want young adults to stay. The young adults are investing and giving time and commitment to their congregations and want this to generate something back. Most of them thrive in their congregations, but there is room for improvement. Their faith is strong. They are willing to invest in God and then consequently also in their congregations.

Kristusgestalter och antikristusgestalter i populärkulturen2009In: Svensk teologisk kvartalskrift, ISSN 0039-6761, no 85, p. 42-46Article in journal (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This article focuses on the use of the Western messianic mythème, which has increased during the last decades. In popular culture, Christ figures and Antichrist figures are frequently engaged in dire battles which can only end with the Christ figure’s destruction of his opponent. Although this can be seen as a sacralization of popular culture, one should be careful not to confuse the use of religious metaphors with religion per se. While best selling productions like The Matrix, The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter use the Messiah metaphor to expose a cause worth dying for, they differ from other popular productions like Left Behind, Luther: the Movie and The Da Vinci Code which are parts of a religious quest. Although laden with religious or secular ethics, consumers usually consider productions like these as mere entertainment. In the case of Harry Potter, however, various Christian groups have either considered Rowling as promoting Christianity or propagating the occult. In such cases, religion or anti-religion is constructed from non religious fiction.
