    Abstract [sv]

E-handelssidoroch laddningstider2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

In this study,   the purpose is to measure how much the response time affect the effectiveness   and usability of the user on e-commerce pages, and to evaluate whether   displaying a loading symbol affects the user's opinion positively or   negatively. This study is based on three theories, Nielsen's (2010) theory of   how response time affect users effectiveness, Galetta et al. (2004) theory of   how response time affect users' attitude towards the side and Hong et al.'s   (2013) theory if users' perception of the response time is influenced by   displaying a symbol while loading. The empirical method used to collect the   data is two different quantitative methods. The data that form the basis of   the study has been collected by allowing users to carry out test purchases via   an e-commerce site and via a survey that was shown at the end of the   purchase. A total of 126 users chose to start the test, of which 96 chose to   complete the test purchase and responded to the survey. The users were   divided into six different groups, each group receiving a fixed delay   assigned as constant throughout the test purchase. The fixed delays assigned   to the different groups were 0 ms, 2000 ms, 4000 ms, 6000 ms, 8000 ms, 10 000   ms and 12 000 ms. The result found in the study is that all three theories   could be validated using the empirical study that was used. The conclusion   that can be drawn is the user's efficiency decreases as response time   increase. The users' attitude towards the side decreases as response time   increase. The loading symbol has a positive impact on users regarding long   response time, as it has a negative impact on those users with short response   time. The breaking point where the majority of users' efficiency dropped, the   negative attitude increased and the loading symbols had the greatest impact   occurred at 6000 ms delay.

Using practical inquiry to support Self-directed Learning: A case study on ICT competence development program for elementary school teachers in a Swedish Municipality2016Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

Information and communication technology has for long been integrated into learning and teachers utilize all forms of digital technology for communication as well as to simplify learning. To adapt, teachers need to personally or through informal learning process, learn about new technologies and how to utilize them to improve learning. To personally educate themselves, the teachers need to dedicate time and resources to identify ICT competence areas where is needed and sort for resources to solve it. This thesis investigates the process of self-directed learning with a group of teachers in a planned competence development program within a local municipality’s educational department, on the use of digital technology to integrate into classrooms. With action research that integrates instructional learning from the organizations perspective and inquiry learning from teacher’s perspective, self-directed learning process was tested as a simple and structured process for self/collaborative learning, for participants. The result was a series of events that summarized why teachers could not follow the learning process, with a conclusion that in order for teachers to be self-directed in learning new ICT, the organizational need to allocate time not only for instructional learning, but also for inquiry learning.

InPUTpy: InPUT for Python2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 5 poäng / 7,5 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

There are many problems where the solution depends heavily on parametertuning and therefore on conguration. Examples include Hill Climbers andvarious Evolutionary Algorithms. The Intelligent Parameter Utilization Tool(InPUT) uses a cross-language format for describing congurations of computerexperiments, thereby aiding in documentation and communication. Itis implemented in Java, and a C++ version is being developed. This meansthat only implementations in statically typed languages currently exist. APython port would thus greatly increase the diversity of implementation languages. The goal of this project was to create an InPUT implementation inPython, and to explore the suitability of a dynamically typed language inthis context. A de facto specication was discovered by creating a suite oflearning tests, and the new implementation was developed using a test-drivenapproach. Several features of Python proved advantageous by simplifying thedevelopment process.

On the Swedish national graduate school for digital technologies in education - GRADE: Expectations and experiences of doctoral students and supervisors2018Inngår i: ICERI2018 Proceedings, The International Academy of Technology, Education and Development, 2018, s. 769-774Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

The Swedish National Graduate School for Digital Technologies in Education (GRADE) is a cooperative venture between six Swedish universities established during 2018. Within the field of educational sciences and in the area of digital technologies in education, GRADE aims to strengthen the expertise in the area and to increase national and international cooperation in research training activities.Over a number of years, and from multitude of sources (cf. Brown & Davis, 2004; Fisher, Higgins & Loveless, 2006; Kafai & Resnick 1996), research has stressed that increased digitalization in schools leads to a complexity that needs to be taken into account on different levels, from different perspectives and with different designs, methodologies and theoretical perspectives (cf. Olofsson, Lindberg, Fransson & Hauge, 2015; Price, Jewitt & Brown, 2013; Tondeur, Valcke & van Braak, 2008). At a micro-level, the learning situation of students, teachers and school-leaders changes and it becomes important to deepen the knowledge about the impact digital technologies has on the fundamental conditions for teaching and learning of different school subjects (cf. Chun, Kern & Smith 2016; Leung & Baccaglini-Frank, 2017). On a macro-level, conditions for education as such changes and digital technologies becomes an important object of study as agents of change (Wong & Li, 2008). The digitalization of K-12 schools has long been highlighted in policy as a necessity (cf. Kirkman et al, 2002; OECD, 2010). However, research and evaluations (cf. Fransson et al, 2012; OECD, 2015; Wastiau et al, 2013) show that many substantial challenges remain. One of the fundamental pillars of GRADE is the interdisciplinary approach. Several disciplines are present (Applied IT, Curriculum studies, Education, Informatics, Technology and Learning, Educational work, Work-interated Learning) in researching digital technologies in K-12 schools with the ambition to contribute to the continued implementation, integration and use of digital technologies in Swedish K-12 schools that stems from the evidence-based knowledge produced within the activities of GRADE. The research within GRADE will be characterized by close cooperation with stakeholders from school practice, with the aim to contribute to concrete school development. In GRADE, a multi-level approach that involves multiple layers or levels of school activities will be encouraged. When possible, studies will be longitudinal. This will imply studies from an organizational and management perspective, e.g. studies of school leaders and other members of senior management positions responsible for digital technology use and implementation. Also implied are studies of teachers' teaching practices and didactical considerations, as well as studies of the students in classrooms and their learning using digital technologies. This will also imply that several issues with a bearing on the digitalization of education, for example regarding school policy, teaching, learning, assessment and professional development will be researched from different perspectives and with different methodological approaches. In this paper, these points of departure will be explored based on the expectations and experiences of the first twelve admitted doctoral students and their supervisors.

FrankZlicer: Direct slicing using arcs2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

3D printing a CAD modelnormally requires conversion into a polygon mesh, usually an STL-file, in orderto be able to load the model in the slicer. This conversion destroys roundsurfaces and replaces them with flat surfaces. Slicing a polygon mesh resultsin one or more polygons, consisting of a number of straight lines. This canaffect both dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness. Modern 3D-printerscan, in addition to straight lines, handle arcs. However, today’s commonslicers can not generate arcs as the input does not contain any curvedfeatures. This project aims at finding an alternative solution. By directslicing of CAD models the slices can contain arcs, and the slicer can producearc commands for the 3D-printer. During this project a prototype slicer isconstructed as a proof of concept. The prototype handles STEP-files as inputand creates both linear and circular movement for the 3D-printer. The resultsshow that both the intermediate files (STEP/STL) and the resulting G-code filescan get smaller, yet preserving the original shape, by using this method. Theproposed solution has a positive effect on the 3D-printing workflow as well, asthe intermediate files can be imported back into the CAD system. The projectconcludes that there is possibly a bright future for direct slicing, but thereare more problems to solve before it can become reality.

Problematizing the participatory subject in demands driven development of public sector2014Inngår i: Innovation and the Public Sector, IOS Press , 2014, Vol. 21, s. 66-75Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

This paper concerns the construction of the individuals to whom public e-services are aimed, and who are expected to participate in demands driven development of public sector. The argument is that these individuals are differently positioned in relation to and have different prerequisites to participate in demands driven development processes, and that this has to be taken into account by practitioners who are working demands driven development of public sector. The aim of the paper is thus to address the need to acknowledge differences in individual users' possibilities to participate in the development of public sector through opening up and critically analyze categories indicating participants - e.g. 'users', 'citizens' or 'practitioners'. This is done through a discourse theoretical analysis of a text; the Swedish Guidelines for Demands Driven Development. The analysis of the text shows that the dominant category signifying a participatory subject is 'target group(s)', which is articulated according to four different themes. However, none of these themes articulates an unpacking of the category 'target group(s)', and the term is instead used to signify everyone as if these were alike and had the same prerequisites and possibilities to participate in demands driven development processes - in discourse theoretical terms 'target group(s) works as an empty signifier. In this way differences between the individuals who are included in the category are hidden, and practitioners are left with no guidelines for how to deal with these.

Spelprogrammering: Ett steg in i spelutvecklingsbranschen2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

I Datamäklarens Nät: Om massiv datainsamling och dess effekt påIT-användning2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this   study is to investigate whether IT users with a reasonable awareness of data   gathering, in the context of Big Data, perceive this data gathering as a   threat to their privacy and if they take steps to counteract it. Building   upon previous research, such steps are assumed to be either ”active” or   ”passive”. Active measures serve to hide data or obscure its contents from   those who would collect it, for example by using a VPN (Virtual Private   Network) or fake aliases, while passive methods might consist of avoiding to   speak out on certain topics or seek out information that may be deemed   suspicious. Based largely on the Theory of Reasoned Action a theoretical   model has been developed to investigate whether a correlation can be seen   between beliefs about data gathering as a privacy threat and the intention to   protect oneself from this threat. To this aim a survey was given to   university students at programmes closely related to IT, as they would likely   have a good understanding of the subject at hand and would be well equipped   to answer the survey´s questions. The results show that almost all of the respondents   see Big Data related data gathering as a threat to privacy and the majority   see themselves likely, to varying degrees, to take measures to protect   themselves. The data shows a reasonable, though weak, correlation between   this view of data gathering as a privacy threat and the tendency towards   self-protection. Further, there is a clear preference towards active   measures, though this may in part be a consequence of the respondents'   aptitude for IT. Further research should be done to investigate the prevalence   of the view of data gathering as a privacy threat in society at large, and   the extent to which it results in self-protective behaviour such as self   censorship. Additionally, the theoretical model developed for this study   should be further developed and tested so that it may be of use in future   studies on data gathering and its effect on IT users.

    Abstract [sv]

Online Digital Mentorship: How Might a Digital Communication Tool Facilitate Informal Learning and Integration of Newly Arrived in Sweden2017Inngår i: Proceedings of the 16th European Conference on e-Learning - ECEL 2017 / [ed] Anabela Mesquita and Paula Peres, Reading, UK: Academic Conferences and Publishing International Limited, 2017, Vol. 16, s. 178-184Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

The arrival of large groups of refugees is one of the great challenges in Europe today. In Sweden around 100 000 new immigrants is expected to arrive from Syria only during 2017 and there are large groups from various countries already staying in Sweden that are not properly integrated. There are no quick and smart solution to solve the inclusion of the large number of new citizens and the idea should rather be a holistic approach combining several initiatives. Lack of language skills is one of the underlying reasons for new arrivals exclusion from the labour market and social networks. Online informal language learning and digital mentorship with two way communication between New Arrivals and established Swedes might be a way to facilitate the inclusion and integration process.   The aim of the study was to examine to which extent a digital communication tool could act as a resource in order to make the integration process more effective for newly arrived immigrants and refugees. Research was carried out as a qualitative cross‐sectional study with data gathered by semi‐ structured interviews. Five educators who are actively working with newly arrived immigrants and refugees were interviewed with use of the Skype tool. A thematic analysis was conducted to find patterns and to create themes and categories that could answer the main research question: How might a digital communication tool be designed to facilitate the integration and inclusion of new arrived refugees in Sweden? The answers could be structured according to two overall themes: “Usable” and “Flexible”. The theme “Usable” consisted of three sub‐themes Ease of Access, Improved language skills and Integrity Facilitation, while the theme “Flexible” was divided into two subcategories Adaptable and Educational content.   The findings confirm that a digital communication tool would support integration of new arrivals by facilitating personal dialogues with established Swedes. The recommendation is to create an online platform that supports language learning and enables multi‐way digital mentorship in a social network with benefits for the established Swedes as well.

REST, 15 år och missförstådd.2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

Webben är en framgångssaga. Men vilka tekniska egenskaper gör den framgångsrik?Dr. As The Engine OfApplication State (HATEOAS).

From Comenius to Counter-Strike: 400 years of Game-based learning as a didactic foundation2018Inngår i: Proceedings of the 12th European Conference on Games Based Learning (ECGBL 2018) / [ed] Dr Mélanie Ciussi, Sophia Antipolis, France: Academic Conferences and Publishing International Limited, 2018, Vol. 12, s. 232-239Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

The Czech philosopher John Amos Comenius has been presented as the father of modern didactics. He also favoured learning by doing and believed in "the art of turning all our schools into games".  Furthermore, Comenius had the idea of a flipped classroom with a four-hour school day, divided into two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. The time in between is recommended to be spent on preparation, play and to explore nature. Comenius saw play as an important didactic strategy since play is an imitation of life itself. Most importantly, Comenius wished games/play and learning to be integrated. He envisioned "a school in which the serious and the fun are mixed" (Comenius, 1657B, [xviii]).

This study has been carried out as a central and comparative literature review. Central in the sense of reviewing a body of literature that is central to the chosen topic, and comparative in the sense that texts describing ideas from the Comenius era have been compared to contemporary ideas. The historical texts were studied using a contextual method, viewing Comenius's works as moves in an argument, as described by Skinner (1996).

The comparison reveals both similarities and differences. The concepts of learning by doing, 'facilitas' and to flip the classroom, are all didactic ideas aligned to game-based learning today. Some examples of learning initiatives and schools fundamentally built upon the idea of 'learning by gaming' were found, but the idea still seems radical to most educators. Comenius would probably have loved the rich abundance of games and gamification today, but certainly not shooting games like Counter-Strike. Comenius’s vision was more one of a peaceful utopia with enlightened citizens. Finally, it is hard to tell if Comenius, alive today, would find the 21st century digital games to support or to interfere his Epicurean idea of a 'direct vision'.

Methodological Considerations for Development of Research Support Systems2016Inngår i: Journal of Organisational Transformation and Social Change, ISSN 1477-9633, E-ISSN 2040-056X, Vol. 13, nr 3, s. 149-167Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

The article introduces the development of research support systems (RSS) as a special form of information systems (IS) development. Building on experiences from a concrete case several crucial differences between RSS development and development of conventional business support systems (BSS) are identified. So, development for RSS means less of mission and more of continues collaboration, less of producing and more of reciprocal learning and social change. It also involves an expanded universe of discourse that requires support more from an IS researcher and less of a conventional IS-developer. Further, there are issues of ethics and funding that makes RSS development extra challenging. All this represents a shift in focus away from How to do things, toward, What things to do. The article is closed with some tentative guidelines for RSS development. Those include preparing, learning, working arena, anticipatory acting, prototyping and stepwise improvement and scrutiny.

    Abstract [en]

Governmental as well as other public systems are facing new challenges due to, among other things, current information technology trends and changes in peoples’ lifestyles. Hence, ideas of web services for the citizens and agencies accessible over the net 24-hours per day are born. However, in order to implement this new type of net-based services a set of accessibility, integrity and security problems and hindrances are to be overcome. Further, the methodological challenges are far from unproblematic. Neither the artefact approach nor the approach of social systems design seems to be directly applicable. Instead, an approach called pragmatic systemics is proposed. At last, organizational transformation is not only a technical problem. Seen in a systemic perspective, the technological changes and the introduction of new artefacts have to be carefully balanced with changes in human competence, organizational structures, and system culture. © 2016 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Tutoring online tutors: Using digital badges to encourage the development of online tutoring skills2018Inngår i: British Journal of Educational Technology, ISSN 0007-1013, E-ISSN 1467-8535, Vol. 49, nr 1, s. 127-136Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Online tutors play a critical role in e-learning and need to have an appropriate set of skills in addition to subject matter expertise. This paper explores how digital badges can be used to encourage the development of online tutoring skills. Based on previous research, we defined three digital badges, which are examples of essential tutoring skills. These skills were self-assessed during two weeks by online tutors in K-12 mathematics, who also wrote a self-reflection based on their experience. The digital badges motivated tutors to reflect on online tutoring practices. The tutors described that they gained a more detailed understanding of the tutoring process when continuously analyzing ongoing conversations. However, it was a challenge for the tutors to balance the private activity, reflection on tutoring skills, and the social activity, communication with the K-12 students. It is essential to take into account when tutors will have time to reflect, for example, by scheduling time for reflection or enabling opportunities for reflection that is flexible in time. A challenge for further research is to better understand the potential benefits of different types of badges.

Professional development as a collaborative endeavour of networked learning in higher educational settings: Dissemination of knowledge among teacher training professionals2018Inngår i: Proceedings of the Eleventh International Conference on Networked Learning 2018 / [ed] Bajić, M, Dohn, NB, de Laat, M, Jandrić, P & Ryberg, T, 2018Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

University teachers continue to strive to take up mobile and blended learning technologies in their teaching practices and universities continue to support this work through professional development courses for university teachers. At Mid Sweden University, two projects have recently been carried out with the objective to develop higher education practices supported by mobile and blended learning technologies in teaching in practice. Professional development for university teachers was expected take place using an iterative design comprising five features: participating in a competence development course, planning trials, conducting trials, evaluating teaching and participating in a pedagogical seminar. In this paper, the preliminary results of the final interviews with 12 teacher educators will be presented. The interviews were carried out to explore beliefs regarding changes in teaching practices, following the completion of teacher professional development project. The results showed that the teacher educators in this study experienced change in the use of mobile and blended learning in their teaching through dialogue, collaboration, dissemination and networked learning. Three themes were identified. The first theme was collaboration. Here, the teacher educators expressed beliefs which could be related to collaboration for learning to use mobile and blended learning technologies in their teaching, supporting conditions for networked learning. This involved working and planning new technologies in new courses together. In the second theme, sharing is caring, the teachers in the study expressed helping each other out and supporting each other in the work to learn and use new technologies in their teaching. Support through pep talks and taking on learning new technologies as a group was one example of gaining knowledge about new technologies. In the third and final theme, the teacher educators’ expressed beliefs regarding dissemination as a way to share knowledge and experiences. Beliefs expressed here included learning through seeing what others were working with and exchanging knowledge. The teacher educators’ in this study also expressed the need for continued learning through collaboration and dissemination, as networked learning in their community of practice. How universities continue to provide professional development to support teachers’ continued work together in communities of practice through networked learning will be of importance. These efforts in professional development will provide possibilities to push forward change in teachers’ use of mobile and blended learning in their teaching practices.

Road Condition Imaging: Model Development2015Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

It is important to classify road conditions to plan winter road maintenance, carry out proper actions and issue warnings to road users. Existing sensor systems only cover parts of the road surface and manual observations can vary depending on those who classify the observations. One challenge is to classify road conditions with automatic monitoring systems. This paper presents a model based on data from winter 2013-2014, retrieved from two installations in Sweden and Norway. To address that challenge an innovative and cost effective road condition imaging system, capable of classifying individual pixels of an image as dry, wet, icy or snowy, is evaluated. The system uses a near infra-red image detector and optical wavelength filters. By combining data from images taken from different wavelength filters it is possible to determine the road status by using multiclass classifiers. One classifier for each road condition was developed, which implies that a pixel can be classified to two or more road conditions at the same time. This multiclass problem is solved by developing a Bayesian Network that uses road weather information system data for the calculation of the probabilities for different road conditions.

Äldresanvändning av smartphones ur ett användbarhetsperspektiv2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

Svenskarna och   internet (2014) points out that the use of smartphones continues to grow,   despite this only 14 percent of the elderly in the age of 60 or more,   interacts with a smartphone daily. The reason why older people do not use   smartphones are thought to be because the technology is difficult and hard.

The purpose of this   study was to find shortcomings in usability for older people when interacting   with a smartphone as well as what improvements should be made to increase the   usability. To achieve this purpose five older respondents in the age of 60   years or older were observed and interviewed. Furthermore, a separate model   has been created based on previous research to analyze the results.

The analysis   resulted in a revised model with existing shortcomings and pronounced   improvement proposals. The shortcomings found in smartphone user interfaces   are lack of information on how to perform different tasks, which means they   are guessing solutions, another lack is that icons are alike. According to   the study, descriptive texts should be provided to each icon. The   improvements that older people would prefer to increase the usability are   that it should be one gesture to navigate through the phone which is the   dragged gesture, pointed information in a smartphone how they perform their   tasks and icons as well as buttons should be named after performance.   Proposals for future research are to investigate differences between older   novices and older skilled users of smartphones and at what age older people   are getting worse in interacting with smartphones.

    Abstract [en]

This study is about investigating how distance students experience the sense of social presence over time and if there are differences between distance with physical meets and IT distances without physical meeting as a study form.

A web survey was sent to 564 students on semesters 1, 3 and 5 who were registered at a distance program at Mid University. Students either read a program remotely with meetings or IT-distances without meetings. An analysis of non-response bias was conducted which showed that there are no significant differences between the response group and the loss. A collapse of the two groups resulted in a response rate of 30.7%.

The study shows that the sense of social presence increases from semesters 1 to semesters 3 before it drops to semesters 5. The results of the survey also show that there are significant differences between how distance and IT-distance experience the sense of social presence. There are no significant differences between semesters and study form over time as the students experience the sense of social presence. What we can see is that the mean values show that distance students have a higher average value of social presence than IT distance students.

The result shows that there are differences in how students feel that they create and retain the sense of social presence during their study time. IT-distance have a greater sense of creating and maintaining the sense of social presence than distance students.

Beslutsstödsystem Uppdragsplanering2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

Community Policing with support of digitalcommunication channels2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

While today's   police forces are decreasing in number and their resources are limited,   population is at the same time increasing. This means that other types of   efforts and strategies are needed to fight crime. There are different   strategies to do this, one of which is called community policing that   involves proactive cooperation between citizens and the police to deal with   the problems. Traditionally, community policing meant that a local police in   the neighbourhood called for physical meetings, where citizens and police   together raised problems and discussed solutions to these.

With today's   limited resources, there is little possibilities for the police to execute   this kind of physical collaboration and meetings. On the other hand, another   meeting place has been added (the one online) and an alternative way to   implement community policing may be online. With digital channels for this   purpose, there may also be an opportunity to reach groups of citizens that   the police have not reached before, but in order to do so, it requires work   and a use of these digital channels in the right way according to community   policing.

The purpose of   this paper is to investigate what challenges and requirements that needs to   be taken into consideration when implementing community policing with the   support of digital communication channels. For this purpose, qualitative   research in the form of literature studies and semi-structured interviews   were conducted.

Findings show   there are a lot of challenges and requirements to consider and there are   guidelines in the analysis and discussion section, to help begin to implement   this way of working.

The practical   implications for this thesis may help police improving their relationships   with citizens in vulnerable areas to be able to cooperate according to   community policing to make these areas a better and safer place to live.

Att främja en individs kompetensutveckling: Informellt lärande2016Student paper other, 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    3D video quality assessment with multi-scale subjective method2013Inngår i: 2013 5th International Workshop on Quality of Multimedia Experience, QoMEX 2013 - Proceedings, 2013, s. 106-111Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

The stereoscopic 3D viewing experience has been studied quite intensively recently; however the subjective test methods to assess it have not been determined. It has become clear that the 3D viewing experience cannot easily be described by just one scale. This paper describes a cross-laboratory study employing the same test setup and materials where a multi-scale rating method was used. One of the laboratories used three scales: Depth Naturalness, Visual Comfort and Video Quality; while the other laboratory used these: 3D Realism, Depth Quantity and Video Quality. The results show that the Quality of Experience (QoE) of 3D video is a multidimensional concept and therefore more than one scale is in many cases needed for subjective assessment of the QoE of 3D video. © 2013 IEEE.

Webbapplikation och databas för kvalitetskontroll2014Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 80 poäng / 120 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

Upplevda faktiska risker inom moln och molntjänster: En studie inom vårdarbete2016Student paper other, 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

Why Action Research and Quality Management is such a Nice Match: And How to Make them Dance without Falling2018Inngår i: Proceedings of the 21st QMOD conference: The Quality Movement, Where are we going ? - Past Present and Future, 2018Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

For anyone digging into the concepts, it becomes obvious that action research and quality management are a really nice match. They share many of their conceptual roots, intentions, core principles/dimensions and processes. Current best practice of quality management can even be understood as doing and strengthening action research processes, in terms of the Plan-do-study-act cycle (PDSA), in organizations. However, the choice, design and application of action research within quality management research is surprisingly seldom discussed or shared. The purpose of this paper is hence to elaborate on how action research and quality management are closely interrelated and how action research can be used more frequently and successfully in quality management research. In addition, the paper hopes to contribute to revitalizing what could be considered the most fundamental practice of quality management: the PDSA cycle.

    Method

The paper is based on a conceptual discussion combined with illustrative experiences and learnings from several research projects that have applied action research to develop the field of Quality Management. The projects and examples illustrate and share both experiences of dancing at its best and a few uncomfortable falls.

    Findings

The paper identifies several critical factors to consider when designing and applying action research within quality management research.

    Practical Implications

As action research is defined by its double aim, developing both scientific knowledge and practice, the ability to successfully design and apply action research in quality management research has large practical implications. One obvious risk if this dance fails is that academic researchers draw back from practice and their ambitions of developing and contributing to practice in their research. The findings of the paper are hoped to increase the number of successful future applications of action research within quality management.

    Originality

The study provide insights in an area sparsely discussed in previous academic work.

Three eGovernments living happily ever after: Discursive tensions and conflicting epistemic cultures in the development of public E-services2015Inngår i: International Journal of Electronic Government Research, ISSN 1548-3886, E-ISSN 1548-3894, Vol. 11, nr 3, s. 43-56Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

There exists a vast amount of different texts (policy documents, guidelines, action plans etc.) with the aim of stipulating the road forward for digitalisation of public sector, and an often used rationale for digitalisation is that the use of digitalised services will stimulate efficiency, reduce costs and at the same time enhance service quality. This is also often coupled with the idea that guarantee of success can be found participatory practices. This paper aims to disclose some of the underpinnings to the above logic by a closer analysis of 'the who, the why and how' of involving participators in digitalization of public sector. This paper uses a combination of discourse analysis and a Bourdieuan inspired use of the concept of epistemic cultures as an analytical framework to disentangle the notion of a participatory eGovernment development. The empirical case is a text analysis of a national action plan for digitalisation and the results of the analysis unfold two interesting notions; 1) three conflicting notions of for whom, why and how this is done, and 2) the consequences of conflicting epistemic cultures for practitioners to solve in the everyday practice when customer-oriented market logics are naively linked with democratically oriented inclusive participatory decision processes; two not so easily combined ideologies. Exploring students' Multimodal mobile use as support for school assignments2015Inngår i: ASEE Annual Conference and Exposition, Conference Proceedings, American Society for Engingeering Education , 2015, nr JanuaryKonferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

This paper engages with how students use multimodality on mobile devices as support for school assignments. The broader aim of this pilot study is to explore understanding of teachers' and students' expressed experiences of students' multimodal mobile use. Focus group interviews and multimodal analysis have allowed investigation of the following research questions: - What experiences do teachers and students express from students' multimodal mobile use related to school assignments? - Which advantages and disadvantages have teachers and students expressed concerning students' multimodal mobile use as support for school assignments? The results show that students and teachers have many different experiences of students' multimodal mobile use related to school assignments. However, the use is limited in several ways. To a large extent teachers and students have expressed that multimodal mobile resources can be used advantageously by students to support school assignments for several purposes. Among disadvantages identified mobile device multimodality in some respects can be disruptive. The result also indicates that different multimodal mobile media have specific possibilities for supporting students' learning as it is related to school assignments. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2015.

ISeBIS-skalans användbarhet vid utvärdering av   användares säkerhetsintentioner2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

The General Data   Protection Regulation, an EU law that enters into force in May 2018, aims to   protect the sensitive data of individuals in our digitized world. The   responsibility for the sensitive data collected will be transferred to the   enforcement organizations. This requires that the correct data protection is   ensured. In this work, organizations must ensure that their employees have   knowledge of information security. To know which training efforts are needed,   a tool for measuring the maturity of information security in the organization   is needed.

Studies show that   it is difficult to measure users' security intentions and that there is a   lack of tools for this. The Information Security Behaviour Scale,   ISeBIS-scale, was in this study designed with the aim of testing whether this   scale could be used and how it could be used to evaluate change in a user's   information security intentions following a training effort.

In a case study,   the ISeBIS scale was tested in an explanatory sequential mixed method. The   selection team received a web survey, underwent education in information   security and then responded to the questionnaire again. After the results   were analysed, semistructured interviews were conducted with a selection of   respondents to explain the trends seen in the study.

The study shows   that to only use the ISeBIS scale is inadequate as a tool for evaluating user   safety behavior. The result after the training was difficult to analyze with   both negative and positive outcomes in the scale's statement. However, it   turned out that in combination with interviews with respondents it is seen   that it is a useful tool to draw attention to the underlying factors of the   answers, such as a lack of knowledge of the security features used daily and   shortcomings in security processes in the organization. Which might not have   been so transparent without the use of ISeBIS. The interviewees all meant   that the ISeBIS scale and the education given created awareness and above all   more discussion about how information security appeared in the organization   and what could be improved in the short and long term.

    Abstract [en]

By scanning the area for Bluetooth-signals, users can find and subscribe to Bluetooth-advertisements and thus estimate its current position. The position is used to identify what actions could be executed in the premises. This report explains the underlying technology and proposes a system architecture for a Android application that together with user authentication, WebSockets and API's could control doors, ventilation, lighting and other indoor devices wirelessly. This project was carried out in collaboration with ÅF Technology AB, Embedded Systems, where the goal was to conduct a pre-study and propose how to add contextual awareness to mobile devices, implement and evaluate a working system.

Socialhållbarhet i webbforum: Hur påverkar deltagarna varandra genom interaktion   på Internet2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

Trolling can affect a web forum and the social sustainability of a forum thread through an activity that leads to negative consequences for participants and participation. Trolling means posts with insults and attacks that are intended to provoke and irritate. By studying the consequences of interaction in web forums on programming, a better understanding of social sustainability is created. Social sustainability aspects concern human well-being but also basic needs for survival.

A qualitative approach, inspired by netnography, provided the opportunity to interpret the contexts that arise in a forum conversation and how participation is influenced by the contributions of different participants. The approach created the basis for answering the research question: How does the interaction between participants affect social sustainability and what are the consequences of meetings in both national and international web forum for programming discussions? The analysis of data was conducted through interpretation of text and a process adapted to the netnography, which meant abstraction and comparison, control and refinement, generalization and theorizing.

The results show that international forum threads, with English as the communication language, are less socially sustainable, than the national ones. Almost half of the forum threads in the study, 8 out of 17, can be assessed socially sustainable. Kudos trolling with interference in the interaction is recorded the most times but is only found in 3 of 17 forum threads. All forum threads that addressed school assignments were influenced by misunderstandings and a lack of understanding regarding the description of the question or answers.

Social Media as a Mean for Improved Technical Communication2016Inngår i: Systemic Practice and Action Research, ISSN 1094-429X, E-ISSN 1573-9295, Vol. 29, nr 4, s. 297-312Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Technical communication (TC) is an important activity in order to provide the users of technical artifacts with necessary information concerning the operation and maintenance of the products they are using. In the current working procedures of TC, however, the users become too passive. They are just receivers of information. Further, there is no effective feedback from the users to the producers of the information. In order to overcome those problems we here propose an application of social media (SM) in future TC. By using SM as a complementary channel for TC it becomes possible for technology firms to boost their competitive advantage and to improve the quality and completeness of their TC. This technique, however, is still more of a potential and less of a reality. Several problems, mostly concerning security and confidentiality remain to be solved. The empirical base for this work comes from TIC, an EU-funded development project involving several Swedish technology companies. Published research results are somewhat scattered but several sources coherently indicate both the need and potential for SM as a vehicle in TC. By scanning the net it is further possible to identify a number of seemingly successful applications of SM in such applications.

Development of a location-based taxi service: using open-source tools2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this project is to develop a component able to retrieve taxi providers in Sweden, based on input of coordinates and a search radius. The result should be available in a well-structured and accessible way through an RESTful web service. The study is conducted based on a customer inquiry stating that the component should be built using open-source tools and be developed in such a way that allows the component, or parts of the component, to be integrated in a larger system. Therefore, a preliminary study was conducted in order to find suitable open-source tools that are able to solve the specific customer requirements. The component uses an ad hoc company search engine to retrieve the taxi providers, contact information and coordinates. Additional information needed for determining the correctness of the taxi providers are retrieved from external resources and a filtering process is then performed before they are saved in persistent store. The project is successful in solving the main purpose and most of the customer requirements, while the RESTful service is unable too fully meet the requirement stating that the component should be able to handle multiple concurrent clients while still maintain responsiveness. This, is mainly due to the decision not to use an ad hoc framework in handling geospatial data structures and calculations and was a trade-off to ensure re-usability and integration of the component in a larger system.
