    Abstract [en]

    In this chapter different factors that may influence Quality of Experience (QoE) in the context of media consumption, networked services, and other electronic communication services and applications, are discussed. QoE can be subject to a range of complex and strongly interrelated factors, falling into three categories: humansystem and context influence factors (IFs). With respect to Human IFs, we discuss variant and stable factors that may potentially bear an influence on QoE, either for low-level (bottom-up) or higher-level (top-down) cognitive processing. System IFs are classified into four distinct categories, namely content-, media-, network- and device-related IFs. Finally, the broad category of possible Context IFs is decomposed into factors linked to the physical, temporal, social, economic, task and technical information context. The overview given here illustrates the complexity of QoE and the broad range of aspects that potentially have a major influence on it.

    Abstract [en]

    Business intelligence (BI) systems are one of the major computing trends during the last ten years, in developed as well as developing countries. However, as often witnessed, the implementations are to a large extent not very successful. Our concern in this paper is the decision support role of BI systems, the perceived business value of implemented systems, and their contribution to facilitate the fulfilment of organisational goals. The study builds upon deep interviews with managers in combination with a previous quantitative survey. The survey and the interviews used three categories of questions: 1) how visions, objectives, strategies are supported by BI systems; 2) how business values are derived from such systems; and 3) how design and implementation issues affect the solutions. The overall conclusion of the study is that there are major problems in all three areas although not equally dire. What clearly emerges is that much of the problems encountered come from failing to appreciate the different nature of BI systems compared to support systems for daily operational processes. Thus, a fundamental reason for BI projects not succeeding entirely is that they are being wrongfully treated as just another kind of traditional information systems.

    Abstract [en]

    A shortcoming of traditional videoconferencing systems is that they present the user with a flat, two-dimensional image of the remote participants. Recent advances in autostereoscopic display technology now make it possible to develop video conferencing systems supporting true binocular depth perception. In this paper, we present a subjective evaluation of a prototype multiview autostereoscopic video conferencing system and suggest a number of possible improvements based on the results. Whereas methods for subjective evaluation of traditional 2D videoconferencing systems are well established, the introduction of 3D requires an extension of the test procedures to assess the quality of depth perception. For this purpose, two depth-based test tasks have been designed and experiments have been conducted with test subjects comparing the 3D system to a conventional 2D video conferencing system. The outcome of the experiments show that the perception of depth is significantly improved in the 3D system, but the overall quality of experience is higher in the 2D system. © 2014 SPIE-IS & T.

    Abstract [en]

    With the uprising trend of the integration of wireless sensing systems in fields such as health care and industrial processes, where information exchange between power-limited devices is required, lower energy consumption and Quality of Service demands are becoming more stringent. Bluetooth LowEnergy is a promising technology that provides, besides ultra-low energy properties, compatibility with most mobile units. However,apart from power efficiency, opportune and reliable information delivery is mandatory in time-critical applications. In this paper we propose an analytical model of the delay performance of Bluetooth Low Energy for connection-oriented applications under different bit error conditions. In addition to the physical over-the-air latency, we also analyze the effect of the occurrence time of an Application Layer event on the effective transmission delay. We highlight the impact of the device’s processing speed and the timing configuration of the connectionon the final measured latency. Simulation results validate the accuracy of the model for all the analyzed cases.

    Fler företag väljer att ISO-certifiera sig inom kvalitets- och miljöledning vilket medför krav på stora mängder dokumentation. Det kräver en metodisk och strukturerad hantering för att kunna leta fram rätt dokument i rätt version, annars går värdefull arbetstid åt till att leta. Som hjälpmedel finns dokumenthanteringssystem och det finns många tidigare utförda studier kring området. Studier med fokus på hantering av ISO9001- och ISO14001-dokumentation med hjälp av dokumenthanteringssystem är däremot av begränsad omfattning. Därför har syftet med den här studien varit att undersöka vilka krav ISO-certifierade verksamheter ställer på ett dokumenthanteringssystem. Ett dokumenthanteringssystem är ett IT-baserat hjälpmedel för att hantera dokument. Inom ISO används två typer av dokument: specificerande och redovisande dokument. ISO ställer krav på hanteringen av de här dokumenten. Tidigare studier ger rekommendationer på andra krav som bör ställas på ett dokumenthanteringssystem och dokumenthanteringsprocessen. Studien baseras på en litteraturgranskning av tidigare studier och av en fallstudie. Då det finns få tidigare studier inom området användes en metod i fallstudien inspirerad från en artikel som berör området kring implementering av dokumenthanteringssystem i kvalitetscertifierade verksamheter. Vår studie resulterade i en relativt generell, grundläggande kravställning på ett dokumenthanteringssystem för ISO-certifierade verksamheter. Kravställningen innehåller bland annat krav på hanteringsprocessen och systemets roller. Studien poängterade även de brister som kan uppkomma då ett dokumenthanteringssystem inte används till exempel bristande överblick och kontroll över dokumenten samt problem med versionshantering. Studien visade också att ett dokumenthanteringssystem rekommenderas som hjälpmedel i dokumenthanteringen utifrån flertalet fördelar såsom mindre administrativt arbete och bättre styrning av dokument.

    Detta examensarbete är utfört åt Alnöbud och Transport i Sundsvall. Alnöbud och Transport håller påmed transport inom såväl Sundsvall som ute i landet. Deras tidrapporteringssystem var föråldrat och de använder sig idag av papper och penna för att registrera de olika anställdas tider. De ville dåveta hur man skulle kunna datorisera detta påett enkelt, smart och prisvärt sätt. Genom att gå till grunden för hur ett litet företag i dagens läge skulle kunna gå tillväga för att datorisera exempelvis ett sådant system krävdes genomgående information om allt från undersökningar, priser för liknande typer av kravspecifikationer och jämförande mellan olika produkter/tjänster. Detta resulterade i en Androidapplikation som valdes eftersom många anställda använder sig just av Android som operativsystem i telefonen. För lagring av data används en Apache server med språket MySQL eftersom den är gratis samt täcker våra behov och är väldigt enkel att navigera mot PHP, som vi använder att koppla ihop applikationen till databasen. Resultatet har utvärderas med en användbarhetsstudie som grundar sig påapplikationen och all dokumentering som följt med under vägen. Denna användbarhetsstudie visar om ett mindre företag bör satsa påatt datorisera sig mer och inte vara rädd för möjligheterna som ges inom datateknik. Slutsatserna av detta arbete är att tidsbesparingen har ökat markant samt att det är billigare att köpa tjänsterna istället för att anställa personal.

    Abstract [en]

    To increase the economic growth of a company today is a complex task to be assigned. Many variables and factors to be taken into account. This study is based on a case study out of an analysis model made by Timrå County to assess corporate growth potential. Purpose of this study was to examine the unique set of criteria in the model. The study intendeds to scientifically validate the link between the unique criterion-set in the analysis model and economic growth potential. ROE as a measure to assess economic growth and the companies with the highest ROE value was considered to possess the greatest growth potential. The study was conducted to find a correlation between the models criteria and increased economic growth for companies. A regression analysis between economic growth and the criteria’s in the model was performed, to find a connection. The regression analysis provided the study with an equation where weights of the growth obstacles were distributed. The equation used a GAP value for respective growth barriers, which could appreciate the growth of a company. Sued the estimated growth with the ROE value the analysis model to be properly structured. The results showed that this was not the case, but it appeared instead that there were large gaps between the analysis model and economic growth. Several of the companies analyzed by the model showed negative growth value according to ROE, and only one company had a ROE value among top 20. The relationship between the models set of criteria and growth potential, had very low correlation. K-squared only found a correlation of 0.00008. This is considered too weak for the development of the unique set of criteria. The study instead recommends new set of criteria for future analyze models.

    Abstract [en]

    Today many companies aims to have their systems automated. Tieto works in a delivery system that is not fully automated, and they wish for it to be improved. They wish to improve this delivery system, as it’s not automated. This work aims to analyze the delivery system to find possi- ble solutions. The delivery system is being used to deliver services to Telia and developed modules are installed for system tests, acceptance tests and in production. The analysis is done by observing and interviewing users on Tieto. If a solution can be found the solutions will be found mainly within automation, but also in level of risk and usability. A solu- tion will be implemented and aiming for practical results that can be used in the delivery system. The analysis has resulted in prioritizing automa- tion of installations descriptions for modules, in the form of installation reports. After the automation of the installation reports, a prototype was implemented for automation of the installation guide. It is being used for getting an overview of everything that will be installed in production. A generation of installation reports has resulted in an automated solution that has been deployed in the delivery system. The deployment has shown a great time gain, a lower level of risk and an increased usability. The automation of the installation guide has resulted in a prototype that generates a big part of the content automatically. An analysis of the de- livery system shows that it contains both advantages and disadvantages in the system/process. It also contains a few missing parts. Many sugges- tions has been reported to improve the delivery system.

    Abstract [en]

    In what way does different stakeholders assess a decision and its consequences, and how do these assessments differ? When a company stands before a big decision, they need to consider aspects that are economic, ecologic and social. To make a good decision they need to consider the society and its different stakeholder groups. This study examined how different groups values and weights different criteria. The study has been done with the project Sundsvall logistics park as a case, with criteria related to that project. The goal of the study was to find a way to value and weight different criteria and then compare how the company and the stakeholders assesses these criteria. This has been done through interviews with relevant people that has got extra knowledge about the project Sundsvall logistics park, and through a survey that has been sent out to residents of Sundsvall. The informants and respondents got to assess values and weights to the criteria relative to an indirect alternative where the logistics park isn’t built. The data was then compiled using multi attribute utility theory as a tool to present the comparison. The result of the study suggests that the differences between the valuations and weightings of the criteria is partly due to an uncertainty in how the logistics park would affect the criteria, but that the biggest reason probably depends on what perspective the person is viewing the logistics park from. If the person is viewing the logistics park from an industrial perspective, the criteria related to industrial development is getting more important and is going to take up more room in the analysis. If the person is viewing the logistics park from an individual and social perspective, the criteria related to that is more important and takes up more room in the analysis.

    Abstract [en]

    The objective of this survey has been to determine whether an existing linearprogramming model could be used to implement a system for the optimizationwith regards to the matching of transports and requests. Realdata from Härnösands harbour was enhanced and used to simulate scenariosthat would be used and applied within the system. The LINGOsolverwas integrated within a system that was developed in .Net to addressissues around data in- and output, data persistence, and stability.Performance tests revealed that the system and model performed inadequatelyon larger datasets. A simpler model was developed that handlea subset of the types of datasets handled by the first model, a subsetwhich includes the data collected from Härnösand harbour. The simplermodel was implemented with the AMPL/CPLEX-solver software, and furthertests showed that this provided a much improved performance to thesystem. These results indicate that further investigation might be requiredregarding the differences in performance between combinations of differentsolvers and models, and that a complete and production ready systemis likely to benefit from incorporation of various models that can be appliedto various characteristics of the input data.

    Abstract [en]

    Within an organization it is very important to be aware of the risks that arise in the environment, and use effective risk management to maxim-ize the potential profit and minimize the possible threats. SWOT and PEST have been shown to be the most commonly used tools in strategic risk management. Talantsev et al. (2013) have developed a new risk evaluation method for ICT4D projects which in this thesis was called SACF. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate its use on a strategic level and compare it to the already established used method.In this research it was shown that SACF can be used as a tool to create, evaluate and select amongst strategies. It is not a replacement but a complement to the already existing methods. In other words, it can pro-vide the evaluator with additional information not provided by SWOT and PEST.

    Gaining Depth: Time-of-Flight Sensor Fusion for Three-Dimensional Video Content Creation2014Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The successful revival of three-dimensional (3D) cinema has generated a great deal of interest in 3D video. However, contemporary eyewear-assisted displaying technologies are not well suited for the less restricted scenarios outside movie theaters. The next generation of 3D displays, autostereoscopic multiview displays, overcome the restrictions of traditional stereoscopic 3D and can provide an important boost for 3D television (3DTV). Then again, such displays require scene depth information in order to reduce the amount of necessary input data. Acquiring this information is quite complex and challenging, thus restricting content creators and limiting the amount of available 3D video content. Nonetheless, without broad and innovative 3D television programs, even next-generation 3DTV will lack customer appeal. Therefore simplified 3D video content generation is essential for the medium's success.

    This dissertation surveys the advantages and limitations of contemporary 3D video acquisition. Based on these findings, a combination of dedicated depth sensors, so-called Time-of-Flight (ToF) cameras, and video cameras, is investigated with the aim of simplifying 3D video content generation. The concept of Time-of-Flight sensor fusion is analyzed in order to identify suitable courses of action for high quality 3D video acquisition. In order to overcome the main drawback of current Time-of-Flight technology, namely the high sensor noise and low spatial resolution, a weighted optimization approach for Time-of-Flight super-resolution is proposed. This approach incorporates video texture, measurement noise and temporal information for high quality 3D video acquisition from a single video plus Time-of-Flight camera combination. Objective evaluations show benefits with respect to state-of-the-art depth upsampling solutions. Subjective visual quality assessment confirms the objective results, with a significant increase in viewer preference by a factor of four. Furthermore, the presented super-resolution approach can be applied to other applications, such as depth video compression, providing bit rate savings of approximately 10 percent compared to competing depth upsampling solutions. The work presented in this dissertation has been published in two scientific journals and five peer-reviewed conference proceedings. 

    In conclusion, Time-of-Flight sensor fusion can help to simplify 3D video content generation, consequently supporting a larger variety of available content. Thus, this dissertation provides important inputs towards broad and innovative 3D video content, hopefully contributing to the future success of next-generation 3DTV.

    In the context of 3D video systems, depth information could be used to render a scene from additional viewpoints. Although there have been many recent advances in this area, including the introduction of the Microsoft Kinect sensor, the robust acquisition of such information continues to be a challenge. This article reviews three depth-sensing approaches for 3DTV. The authors discuss several approaches for acquiring depth information and provides a comparative analysis of their characteristics.

    Acquiring scenery depth is a fundamental task in computer vision, with many applications in manufacturing, surveillance, or robotics relying on accurate scenery information. Time-of-flight cameras can provide depth information in real-time and overcome short-comings of traditional stereo analysis. However, they provide limited spatial resolution and sophisticated upscaling algorithms are sought after. In this paper, we present a sensor fusion approach to time-of-flight super resolution, based on the combination of depth and texture sources. Unlike other texture guided approaches, we interpret the depth upscaling process as a weighted energy optimization problem. Three different weights are introduced, employing different available sensor data. The individual weights address object boundaries in depth, depth sensor noise, and temporal consistency. Applied in consecutive order, they form three weighting strategies for time-of-flight super resolution. Objective evaluations show advantages in depth accuracy and for depth image based rendering compared with state-of-the-art depth upscaling. Subjective view synthesis evaluation shows a significant increase in viewer preference by a factor of four in stereoscopic viewing conditions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first extensive subjective test performed on time-of-flight depth upscaling. Objective and subjective results proof the suitability of our approach to time-of-flight super resolution approach for depth scenery capture.

    Abstract [en]

    Obtaining three-dimensional scenery data is an essential task in computer vision, with diverse applications in various areas such as manufacturing and quality control, security and surveillance, or user interaction and entertainment. Dedicated Time-of-Flight sensors can provide detailed scenery depth in real-time and overcome short-comings of traditional stereo analysis. Nonetheless, they do not provide texture information and have limited spatial resolution. Therefore such sensors are typically combined with high resolution video sensors. Time-of-Flight Sensor Fusion is a highly active field of research. Over the recent years, there have been multiple proposals addressing important topics such as texture-guided depth upsampling and depth data denoising. In this article we take a step back and look at the underlying principles of ToF sensor fusion. We derive the ToF sensor fusion error model and evaluate its sensitivity to inaccuracies in camera calibration and depth measurements. In accordance with our findings, we propose certain courses of action to ensure high quality fusion results. With this multivariate sensitivity analysis of the ToF sensor fusion model, we provide an important guideline for designing, calibrating and running a sophisticated Time-of-Flight sensor fusion capture systems.

    Precise scene depth information is a pre-requisite in three-dimen-sional television (3DTV), e.g. for high quality view synthesis in autostereoscopic multiview displays. Unfortunately, this information is not easily obtained and often of limited quality. Dedicated range sensors, such as time-of-flight (ToF) cameras, can deliver reliable depth information where (stereo-)matching fails. Nonetheless, since these sensors provide only restricted spatial resolution, sophisticated upscaling methods are sought-after, to match depth information to corresponding texture frames.Where traditional upscaling fails, novel approaches have been proposed, utilizing additional information from the texture for the depth upscaling process. We recently proposed the Edge Weighted Optimization Concept (EWOC) for ToF upscaling, using texture edges for accurate depth boundaries. In this paper we propose an important update to EWOC, dividing it into smaller incremental upscaling steps. We predict two major improvements from this. Firstly, processing time should be decreased by dividing one big calculation into several smaller steps. Secondly, we assume an increase in quality for the upscaled depth map, due to a more coherent edge detection on the video frame.In our evaluations we can show the desired effect on processing time, cutting down the calculation time more than in half. We can also show an increase in visual quality, based on objective quality metrics, compared to the original implementation as well as competing proposals.

    Accurate scene depth capture is essential for the success of three-dimensional television (3DTV), e.g. for high quality view synthesis in autostereoscopic multiview displays. Unfortunately, scene depth is not easily obtained and often of limited quality. Dedicated Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors can deliver reliable depth readings where traditional methods, such as stereovision analysis, fail. However, since ToF sensors provide only limited spatial resolution and suffer from sensor noise, sophisticated upsampling methods are sought after. A multitude of ToF solutions have been proposed over the recent years. Most of them achieve ToF super-resolution (TSR) by sensor fusion between ToF and additional sources, e.g. video. We recently proposed a weighted error energy minimization approach for ToF super-resolution, incorporating texture, sensor noise and temporal information. For this article, we take a closer look at the sensor noise weighting related to the Time-of-Flight active brightness signal. We determine a depth measurement reliability function based on optimizing free parameters to test data and verifying it with independent test cases. In the presented doubleweighted TSR proposal, depth readings are weighted into the upsampling process with regard to their reliability, removing erroneous influences in the final result. Our evaluations prove the desired effect of depth measurement reliability weighting, decreasing the depth upsampling error by almost 40% in comparison to competing proposals.

    Abstract [en]

    High-quality video is being increasingly delivered over Internet Protocol networks, which means that network operators and service providers need methods to measure the quality of experience (QoE) of the video services. In this paper, we propose a method to speed up the development of no-reference bitstream objective metrics for estimating QoE. This method uses full-reference objective metrics, which makes the process significantly faster and more convenient than using subjective tests. In this process, we have evaluated six publicly available full-reference objective metrics in three different databases, the EPFL-PoliMI database, the HDTV database, and the Live Video Wireless database, all containing transmission distortions in H.264 coded video. The objective metrics could be used to speed up the development process of no-reference real-time video QoE monitoring methods that are receiving great interest from the research community. We show statistically that the full-reference metric Video Quality Metric (VQM) performs best considering all the databases. In the EPFL-PoliMI database, SPATIAL MOVIE performed best and TEMPORAL MOVIE performed worst. When transmission distortions are evaluated, using the compressed video as the reference provides greater accuracy than using the uncompressed original video as the reference, at least for the studied metrics. Further, we use VQM to train a lightweight no-reference bitstream model, which uses the packet loss rate and the interval between instantaneous decoder refresh frames, both easily accessible in a video quality monitoring system.

The purpose of the application is to make adesign which is clean and has high usability, fast and effective software and tomake the application able to be successful. The projects goal is to gainknowledge in how to achieve that purpose. The goal with the research is to gainknowledge about what makes an application desirable and popular. The application created in this project is a casino application that will includecertain functions depending on the results of the research. Besides theapplication there was also a server created with the purpose of storing userinformation and communication between server and client. The developmentmethod used in this project is Extremeprogramming and has been developed inthe Eclipse IDE. There has been modules for Android SDK and Facebook SDKadded to the Eclipse IDE. There was scetches and UML-diagrams drawn tomake the programming easier and to gain better understanding of the mostcomplicated functions. The goal overall with the project has ben fullfilled.Although there is a huge problem with the security risks that will have besolved in future work. Besides working on the security there could also be somefixes made on the design and add more functions and games to the applicationin the future.

    This paper concerns representational practices in demands driven development of public sector, and the problems they involve. The term demands driven development refers to a movement in public sector towards a closer cooperation with the citizens, primarily with regards to the development of public e-services. The objective with the paper is to explore representational practices through the analysis of practitioners' talk about demands driven development. There are several interrelated problems with representational practices, in this paper analysed through the discussions of practitioners who work with demands driven development of public sector.     The aim of this work has been to design a laboratoryassignment that conveys the theory and knowledge ofparticularly Kerberos, an authentication system, and LDAP,a directory system. The work also tried to sort out whichLDAP servers that are the most common among businessesand organizations. This work begins with treating the theoryrequired to implement a system that authenticates the uservia Kerberos and provides user information via LDAP andhow these can be linked to different services. With thisknowledge I implemented a system in a virtual environmentwith Ubuntu and based on this implementation as well astheory, designed a laboratory assigment on the subject. Aquestionnaire on which LDAP servers that are used by thequestioned companies were created and sent out torandomly selected companies and showed that allrespondents used Microsoft Active Directory. It also showedthat one third of respondents used the Open Source versionsof LDAP that this report focuses on. Finally the the reportconcludes that LDAP is the main focal point of the theory,and that if the students get a grip on LDAPs layout andstructure many of the other pieces will fall in place andfacilitate understanding when they later implement thesystem in practice.

    The research group Realistic3D is developing future realistic 3D visualization for entertainment and industry. Their focus is to improve capture compression and presentation technology by making use of sophisticated signal and image processing of plenoptic capture systems. This thesis examines the possibility to design and implement a software for interactive analysis on plenoptic capture systems. Enabled by GPU accelerated ray tracing and scene management, the software will simulate light rays passing through 3D models of plenoptic capture systems. The software is referred to by the working title “PlenoptiX”. Included in this thesis are requirements gathering, an evaluation of the potential of the two GPU accelerated application engines NVIDIA SceniX and NVIDIA OptiX and an implementation of a first prototype. All requirements were gathered from a representative from Realistic3D. The technical specifications of SceniX and OptiX were evaluated with respect to the requirements on PlenoptiX. The results of these evaluations were that both SceniX and OptiX fulfilled all the requirements and should be used in the development of PlenoptiX. The prototype of PlenoptiX was implemented as a Windows application where the user can view and interact with 3D models of plenoptic capture systems. The resulting prototype meets the requirements, such as using SceniX for visualization of a 3D model, using OptiX with SceniX scene data and loading 3D models. The conclusions of the potential for further development of PlenoptiX together with OptiX and SceniX was that OptiX shows promising usage but SceniX should not be used in further development because NVIDIA is not updating SceniX.

    Large amounts of data in various forms are generated at a fast pace in today´s society. This is commonly referred to as “Big Data”. Making use of Big Data has been increasingly important for both business and in research. The forest industry is generating big amounts of data during the different processes of forest harvesting. In Sweden, forest infor-mation is sent to SDC, the information hub for the Swedish forest industry. In 2014, SDC received reports on 75.5 million m3fub from harvester and forwarder machines. These machines use a global stand-ard called StanForD 2010 for communication and to create reports about harvested stems. The arrival of scalable cloud technologies that com-bines Big Data with machine learning makes it interesting to develop an application to analyze the large amounts of data produced by the forest industry. In this study, a proof-of-concept has been implemented to be able to analyze harvest production reports from the StanForD 2010 standard. The system consist of a back-end and front-end application and is built using cloud technologies such as Apache Spark and Ha-doop. System tests have proven that the concept is able to successfully handle storage, processing and machine learning on gigabytes of HPR files. It is capable of extracting information from raw HPR data into datasets and support a machine learning pipeline with pre-processing and K-Means clustering. The proof-of-concept has provided a code base for further development of a system that could be used to find valuable knowledge for the forest industry.

    Wireless technology has been advancing a lot over the years and it has become mature enough to be used in industrial process control. Wireless sensor networks have overtaken the wired devices and are vastly adapted across the industry. Using wireless technologies in industrial process control results in easy installation and configuration of network and helps in reduction of overall cost. Applying wireless technologies has greater benefits but on the other hand it provides challenges due to harsh industrial environments. Nowadays, wireless sensor devices are smart enough to detect the problems within the network and are capable of producing health reports. To use the capabilities of these smart devices a centralized management is required.  A centralized network manager can manage these smart devices to improve the overall network. Network manager plays a pivotal role because it is a central part of the network and a bad network manager results in network performance degradation. This thesis work addresses the need of centralized network management and proposes a design for the network manager based on the WirelessHART standard. Several algorithms are developed based on the layered architecture of WirelessHART  and a user-friendly graphical user interface is designed for the network manager which is capable of displaying real-time performance and statistics of the network, adding and configuring the nodes, creating routes for the nodes, showing routing tables and neighbour tables and display the network topology. Any change in the network is reflected and displayed by the GUI at run time. The designed network manager is implemented and tested using both simulated packets and real hardware and the work is evaluated using Average Packet Delivery Ratio, Average End to End Delay and by comparing the work to already designed network managers.

Besides lab-based subjective experiments, crowdsourcing based subjective assessment of video quality is gaining popularity as an alternative method. This paper presents insights into a study that investigates perceptual preferences of various adaptive video streaming scenarios through crowdsourcing based subjective quality assessment.

    Abstract [en]

    Low-power and resource-constrained wireless technology has been regarded as an emerging technology that introduces a paradigm shift in a wide range of applications such as industrial automation, smart grid, home automation and so on. The automation industry has significant contributions to economic revenues, job opportunities and world-class research. The low-power and resource-constrained wireless technology has brought new opportunity and challenges for industrial automation. The solutions of such wireless technology offer benefits in relation to lower cost and more flexible deployments/maintenances than the wired solutions, and new applications that are not possible with wired communication. However, these wireless solutions have been introducing new challenges. Wireless links are inherently unreliable, especially in industrial harsh environment, and wireless interference makes the problem even worse. Low-power consumption is required and real-time communication is generally crucial in industrial automation applications.

    This research work addresses that industrial wireless sensor and actuator network (IWSAN) should even be designed to provide service differentiation for wireless medium access and adapt to link dynamics for scheduling algorithms on top of real-time services. Specifically, exceeding the required delay bound for unpredictable and emergency traffic in industrial automation applications could lead to system instability, economic and material losses, system failure and, ultimately, a threat to human safety. Therefore, guaranteeing the timely delivery of the IWSAN critical traffic and its prioritization over regular traffic (e.g. non-critical monitoring traffic) is a significant topic. In addition, the state-of-the-art researches address a multitude of objectives for scheduling algorithms in IWSAN. However, the adaptation to the dynamics of a realistic wireless sensor network has not been investigated in a satisfactory manner. This is a key issue considering the challenges within industrial applications, given the time-constraints and harsh environments.

    In response to those challenges, a protocol framework for adaptive real-time communication in IWSAN is proposed. It mainly consists of a priority-based medium access protocol (MAC) and its extension for routing critical traffic, a hybrid scheme for acyclic traffic, and adaptive scheduling algorithms. To the best of our knowledge, the priority-based MAC solution is the first priority-enhanced MAC protocol compatible with industrial standards for IWSAN. The proposed solutions have been implemented in TinyOS and evaluated on a test-bed of Telosb motes and the TOSSIM network simulator. The experimental results indicate that the proposed priority-based solutions are able to efficiently handle different traffic categories and achieve a significant improvement in the delivery latency. The hybrid scheme for acyclic traffic increases the throughput and reduces the delay compared to the current industrial standards. Numerical results show that the adaptive scheduling algorithms improve the quality of service for the entire network. They achieve significant improvements for realistic dynamic wireless sensor networks when compared to existing scheduling algorithms with the aim to minimize latency for real-time communication.

    This paper proposes Delay Bounded Routing (DBR) and a Priority-based Medium Access Control method (PriorityMAC), designed for routing critical traffic in Industrial Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks (IWSAN). A notable trend in industrial automation in recent years is the replacement of wired communication with IWSAN. Exceeding the required delay bound for unpredictable and emergency traffic could lead to system instability, economic and material losses, system failure and, ultimately, a threat to human safety. Guaranteeing the timely delivery of the critical traffic and its prioritization over regular traffic (e. g. non-critical monitoring traffic) is a significant challenge. Therefore, we present the design, implementation and evaluation of DBR and PriorityMAC. DBR and PriorityMAC are implemented in TinyOS and evaluated on a testbed of Telosb motes. The experimental results indicate that our protocol achieves a significant improvement of the end-to-end delivery latency compared to the current industrial standards.

    Scheduling algorithms play an importantrole for TDMA-based wireless sensor networks. ExistingTDMA scheduling algorithms address a multitude of objectives.However, their adaptation to the dynamics of a realistic wirelesssensor network has not been investigated in a satisfactorymanner. This is a key issue considering the challenges withinindustrial applications for wireless sensor networks, given thetime-constraints and harsh environments.In response to those challenges, we present SAS-TDMA, asource-aware scheduling algorithm. It is a cross-layer solutionwhich adapts itself to network dynamics. It realizes a tradeoffbetween scheduling length and its configurational overheadincurred by rapid responses to routes changes. We implementeda TDMA stack instead of the default CSMA stack and introduceda cross-layer for scheduling in TOSSIM, the TinyOS simulator.Numerical results show that SAS-TDMA improves the qualityof service for the entire network. It achieves significant improvementsfor realistic dynamic wireless sensor networks whencompared to existing scheduling algorithms with the aim tominimize latency for real-time communication.

    Abstract [en]

    Sensor have been playing an important role and been useful for society, organizations and even for humans. The things around us that we use in our daily life such as sensors attached to people, smart devices, vehicles and mobile phones can be integrated by using sensor values. This thesis concerns the implementation of NAT penetration techniques in the SensibleThings platform. The SensibleThings open source platform which apply the advantage of peer-to-peer (P2P) networking, developed by Mid Sweden University. An algorithm for NAT penetration was proposed, but there was no implementation and evaluation showed there was a need for a new technique. However, this new algorithm tries to use direct connection, UPnP configuration or NAT hole-punching techniques, to communicate between peers and if unsuccessful will use a relay as a fallback. This paper explores different NAT types. There are mainly four NAT types; what separates them is different filtering and mapping algorithms. The objective of this study is to provide seamless NAT traversal and gain scalability. The implementation showed that both UPnP and hole punching techniques are successful to bridge the gap across NAT. It leads to the conclusion that UPnP and hole-punching is approximately 300 milliseconds and 100 milliseconds better respectively than the existing proxy communication. However, UPnP is only suitable for small network areas as it uses multicast in its communication. It allows the client to control only one NAT device and because of security issues it is not preferred by large organization. The hole-punching technique failed in implementing a symmetric NAT type, thus the current proxy solution is used to handle the problem. Finally, this paper presents future work to improve the system and measure scalability.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis deals with control of stock in an inventory, focusing on inventory placement. The purpose of this thesis is to reduce the transport distance within the main stock house while gathering inventory. This will be achieved by reconstructing the inventory placement in consideration with how frequently the inventories get picked and mass of the inventory. In particular, the literature and the data that is collected from the company´s business system have laid the foundation for the thesis. In general, interviews and observations also contributed to the data collection. To fulfill the aim and to produce arbitrary results, two issues have been developed regarding which attributes that should determine the position of the inventory in the stock house and how to obtain a more effective inventory structure? The authors have jointly produced a result of suggestions for future inventory placement in terms of picking frequency and weight. Initially a situation analysis was conducted to identify known problems with the inventory´s placement and storage systems. The problems that were identified were that the inventory placement has no consideration regarding picking frequency. To determine the most frequent picked inventory an ABC analysis was conducted. All of the inventories were spread out throughout the whole stock house. To take in account, the additional criterion, which was weight, a multi-criteria analysis was performed in combination with the ABC analysis. The results of the combined analysis provided that the basis for drawing up concepts for future inventory placement. The proposal includes optimized inventory placements in different zones of the most frequently picked inventory with weight as an additional criterion.

    Abstract [en]

    Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are increasingly deployed in office blocks, residential areas and also industrial locations, thanks to advantages in terms of flexibility and scalability. Nowadays available wireless fieldbuses are widely adopted for process monitoring and offer performance comparable with the wired counterparts, despite they still are more sensitive to interference from external sources. This work investigates the main sources of interference in the 2.4 GHz ISMband and evaluates the adoption of a simple algorithm to identify the interference. The proposed technique, called LPED, is based on bit error nature and forward error correction. The required computational effort is compatible with resources normally available in WSN nodes, as experimentally verified. In addition, performance in presence of IEEE802.11 and iWLAN is also verified; classification is correct in about 90% of cases.

    Since agile execution of projects has become more frequently used the discovery that the surroundings of the projects are not always compatible has been made. The problematic within the area is traditional accounting restrictions and cost estimation. The purpose with this research is to develop a procurement method that facilitates for agile execution of projects. Previous research proves that the agile principles can be used in a procurement process successfully, but with focus on facilitating on the procurement itself and not on the agile execution. This research includes theories about the agile estimation models and requirement prioritizing methods. The method used to complete this research is design science, which includes six steps to ensure reproducibility and validity. This research resulted in a procurement method that includes three methods and two phases with focus on minimizing the pre-study, with focus on only the most important requirements only. The procurer will then attend the agile execution and both procurer and executer enter the project with the mindset that the initial budget- and time estimation will be increased. Both procurer and executor works together towards the same goal, maximum customer value for minimum cost. The method is tested beside two projects conducted by Telia Company and the test result is that the generated solution reduces the total cost of the project and time to generate project result and facilitates for an agile execution. This research concludes that an agile procurement can facilitate agile execution of project but before agile procurement can be a recommendation more tests are needed.

    Preventing data loss using rollback-recovery: A proof-of-concept study at Bolagsverket2013Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    This thesis investigates two alternative approaches, referred to as automatic- and semi-automatic replay, which can be used to prevent data loss due to a certain set of unforeseen events at Bolagsverket, the Swedish Companies Registration Office. The approaches make it possible to recover the correct data from a database that belongs to a stateless distributed system and that contains erroneous- or inaccurate information due to past faults. Both approaches utilize log-based rollback-recovery techniques but make different assumptions regarding the deterministic behaviour of Bolagsverket’s systems. A stateless distributed system logs all received messages during failure-free operation. During recovery, automatic replay recovers the data by enabling the system to re-process the logged messages. In contrast, semi-automatic replay recovers data by utilizing the logged messages to enable officials at Bolagsverket to manually redo lost work in a controlled manner. Proof-of-concept implementations of the two replay approaches are developed on a simplified model that resembles one of Bolagsverket’s electronic services, yet that is general to any stateless system that communicates asynchronously using JMS messages and synchronously using XML sent over HTTP. The theoretical- and performance evaluation was conducted with the aim of producing results general to any system with similar characteristics to those of the model. The results suggest that the failure-free overhead at Bolagsverket is approximately 100 milliseconds per logged message, and that around 3 gigabytes of data must be stored in order to recover one average day’s operation. Further, automatic replay successfully manages to recover one average day’s operation in around 70 minutes. Semi-automatic replay is calculated to require, at a maximum, one workday to recover the same amount of data. It is assessed that automatic replay is a suitable solution for Bolagsverket if it is proven that their systems are fully deterministic. In other cases, it is assessed that semi-automatic replay can be utilized. It is however recommended that further evaluations are conducted before the approaches are implemented in a production environment.

    Förstudien har undersökt förutsättningar för ett samordnat regionalt arbetet kring visualisering. Särskilt har förstudien gjort en omvärldsanalys om vad visualisering är och hur den kan tillämpas. Den har sett över möjliga aktörer i regionen som dra fördel av ett regional arbete kring visualisering, samt samtalat med en delmängd av dessa. En lista av unika företeelser i regionen har tagits fram, som kan ligga till grund för visualiseringsarbetet. En plan och strategi har formulerats om vad som bör genomföras för att nå en regional samverkan kring visualisering. Befintliga organisationer som kan bidra till uppbyggnaden och driften av visualiseringsklustret har setts över. Ett utkast till ett första projekt för att bygga upp verksamheten kring visualisering i Mellannorrland har gjorts, vilket inkluderar en plan för vilka slags parter som ska ingå i ett första projekt och på set har en delmängd av bland regionens aktörer identifierats. Förstudien har undersökt hur andra visualiseringscentra finansierar sin verksamhet och överfört den kunskapen till regionens arbete med visualisering. En undersökning om och hur FUNK-modellen kan vara en grund för regionens visualiseringsarbete har genomförts, men även andra former av samarbeten över disciplingränser har beaktats.

    Förstudiens alla syften och mål är uppfyllda, samt alla målgrupper nådda eller beaktade.

    The project described in this thesis implements a position based offer system that allows the user to receive offers when they enter zonesspecified in a database. The goals associated with this project were: to find and evaluate products with similar functionalities and to design and implement a working prototype. The system consists of four main parts, a smartphone, a server, a website, and a billing system. The smartphone is based upon the Android operating system and uses the global positioning system (GPS) to track its position. The server is the brain of the system and all the other devices communicate through it.The server runs JBoss and has a connection to an Oracle database through hibernate. JavaServer Pages (JSP) is used by the server to generate the website and to connect the Java methods with the HTML-forms at the website. User privacy is one aspect that has been investigated in relation to this project. The user should have options to choose the information that is to be shared and stored. When storing private information it is important to secure the information, preferably by encryption and a log in system. A small program was developed to test the scalability of the server and the result showed that the server could cope with 1000 simultaneous users polling the server with a 5 second interval.This will, however, increase several times when a dedicated server machine is used. Today there is no other product at the market that has a connection to the billing system; this means that this product will have a huge advantage and market potential compared to similar products.

    Abstract [en]

    Internet of Things (IoT) is a hot topic right now. To help under- stand some of the available hardware and software that are available a prestudy have been conducted. Two hardware options and two communication libraries have been analysed. Based on that analysis a prototype have been developed. NodeMCU and Raspberry pi zero are the hardware platform that have been looked at and on the software side MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT) and Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) have been analysed. The aspects that have been a part of the compareson are: formfactor, I/O connections and price on the hardware side and on the software side functions, security and how well evolved the community is. The prototype was installed at Dewire in Sundsvall and messures passages in a doorway aswell as temperature in the room to in the future communicate this information to the ventilation to help improve the indoor climate. The compareson is a literatur study while the prototype is a product of this project. The study show that with small means its possable to implement a IoT solution and the decision of using NodeMCU and MQTT showed to be good choices.

    Virtualization is a commonly used method of allocating server resources. When developers are developing new software code is it appropriate that the program code is tested before running in production. Since the code cannot be tested in the production environment if an error would occur, it is often tested in a test or development environment. Solid Park in Stockholm work this way, by setting up virtual machines quickly and easily on premise via a web based interface in the service called Lab Manager. This enables them to maintain an agile working process. After the creation of a virtual machine the database imports new data from the production server, which means that they can test the code in a similar environment in relation to production. The support for Lab Manager stopped in 2010, which means that operating systems newer than 2010 is not available. This is a direct consequence for the development when new SQL servers and updates are released. That’s why this project aims to develop a potential replacement, so they can keep the development intact as well as maintaining an agile working process. The project is aimed at comparing the service of Microsoft Azure named Dev/Test Lab that is cloud based. The survey has studied Lab Manager and then developed a similar construction in Dev/Test Lab. The construction has then been compared with Lab Managers current bandwidth, complexity of setting up an environment and the costs, to hopefully answer the following questions: 1. Has Microsoft Azure Dev/Test Lab the functionality needed to create the environment necessary for Solid Park to develop and test? 2. How reliable is the connection? 3. How does the cost affect the performance? The result has shown that Dev/Test Lab have the functionality required to replace Lab Manager, however, the connection is slow and unreliable. Costs have been shown to have a major impact on performance for the connection, but also the hardware for the virtual machines.

    Most of the methods, tools and approaches used in traditional project management come from the Cold War days. System development sector experienced the traditional methods of managing projects as extremely static and slow and therefore developed more agile methods, agile sys-tem development methods. By the year 2007 there was not a structured process for the selection and implementation of an agile method. There is currently some framework that describes how the selection and im-plementation of an agile method can be conducted. None of these frameworks will be considered or assume an organization strategy and the importance of strategic fit. The purpose of this report was to investi-gate how an agile software development method can be chosen based on strategic fit. The survey also aimed to study the changes that would be required in an organization's project management model in order to introduce an agile system development methodology. To answer the question, an evaluation with TS-method was performed. In the TS-method has agile software development methodologies assessed against an organization's strategic goals. The result from the evaluation was that the agile software development methods DSDM and Scrum were con-sidered to have the best strategic fit. When the DSDM largely is a framework a combination of the two agile software methods is possible. TS-method gave a relative assessment between the agile software devel-opment methods. Based on this assessment, the agile software devel-opment methods could be ranked from a strategic perspective. The in-troduction of a combination of methods has meant that the work will be performed iteratively rather than sequentially, and this has meant that the decision points in the project management model have changed. Although control with TKQ has disappeared.

    Abstract [en]

    This report deals with the possibilities of creating a system for a point-to-point audio- and video communication link, using cheap and simple hardware. The system will be using a local area network based on Ethernet and IP. This work was focused around the Raspberry Pi and its possibilities and limitations, regarding this type of application. The usage of a Raspberry Pi was also compared to using a conventional mini-PC for the same purpose. The overall goal was to achieve a system for point to point audio- and video communication of a very high quality, preferrably HD quality. The users of the system are supposed to get a feeling of live communication. To achieve this a very large monitor was used at each node. The monitor, microphone, camera and speaker are to be integrated into a frame that is hung on a wall in order to resemble a window. When you want to talk to somebody at the other node, you just walk up to this window and call upon the person you want to speak to, since the communications link is always active. This system could be used for distance meetings, distance lectures and in other similar situations. The results indicated that the Raspberry Pi was very capable of handling either transmission or reception of HD quality signals, but for full duplex communication a setup using two separate Raspberry Pis per node is recommended – one for transmission and one for reception. Another solution would be to choose a more powerful hardware platform,for instance a mini-PC, instead of the Raspberry Pi.

    In the last two decades, governments around the world have been implementing electronic services in order to create a range of public values and meet new demands from a variety of stakeholders. Such activities fall within the scope of the e-Government research field. Developing large-scale information systems has proven to be a challenging task and many initiatives have ended in failure. This paper explores uncertainty in the e-Government context. How is it related to the various actors in the public sector, and how can decision making be adapted here to improve value realization? Using actor-network theory as an analytical lens, the collaboration of five Swedish municipalities in creating common e-services is examined as a case study. The results indicate that factors beyond decision makers’ control, such as relations outside of a project, create a high degree of uncertainty. This uncertainty can be reduced by creating durable relations between local and global socio-technical actors. Inscribing values into generic software that has a high grade of interoperability should help to strengthen these networks beyond projects and regional borders.

    Developing e-services in the public sector is a demanding task that involves a variety of stakeholders and values. Further complexity is added by organizational and institutional challenges, especially when specialized government agencies are expected to collaborate to create seamless, integrated services. This paper focuses on decision making and risk analysis in two Swedish collaborative e-Government cases. Empirical material consists of semi-structured interviews and project documentation, which are analyzed using an objectives-oriented Logical Framework Approach (LFA). The results highlight two factors that influence the outcomes of the projects; governance for collaboration and financial models for distributing resources between government agencies. When these formal support mechanisms are not provided, they become risks for the projects and create uncertainties in decision processes. While the studied government context has matured enough to develop fully functional platforms for e-services, these uncertainties become issues when public values are to be measured and evaluated. The paper concludes by suggesting the use of public values as objectives together with measurable indicators in order to create a common language for decision making and risk management across government agencies.

    Globaliseringen innebär ökad konkurrens för företag vilket gör det viktigare för företag att snabbt kunna utföra sina kostnadsuppskattningar. I detta arbete undersöks förutsättningarna för att använda moderna teorier inom cost engineering för att kunna förkorta ledtiderna vid förkalkylsarbetet för företag inom custom made-tillverkning. Inom cost engineering har teorier för kostnadsuppskattning används för att beräkna tillverkningstider för tre olika produkter hos ett fallföretag. För att få en bra beskrivning av problematiken med kostnadsuppskattning inom custom made-tillverkning har design science-metodologi använts under arbetets gång.  Resultatet av arbetet visar att förutsättningarna för att använda moderna teorier inom cost engineering för kostnadsuppskattning hos custom made-tillverkande företag är att historisk data avseende för- och efterkalkylsarbete finns tillgänglig. Genom att använda moderna teorier inom cost engineering kan custom made-tillverkande företag förkorta sina ledtider vid kostnadsuppskattning och således kan företaget räkna på fler kundförfrågningar. Företaget kan dessutom återkoppla till sina kunder snabbare vilket leder till bättre kundrelationer.

    Abstract [en]

    The main purpose of this thesis work have been to determine if web accessibility can be of value for the case company, which is specialised on mobile solutions and IT, as well as find a way to make potential values into a reality. The project have been conducted in a manner of qualitative methodology where a great focus have been to interviewing employees at the case company as well as some representatives from their customers. The interviews have been conducted in a semi-­‐‑ structured fashion, based upon a theoretical outline consisting of: web accessibility, value creation and value realisation, and business model. The analysis has grounded in the results from the interviews, with the aim to determine the current overall view of accessibility and how the conditions for a future stretching of the business model of the case company. The conclusion of the study has been that the market for web development with a focus on accessibility is rather new and with few large contesters. One of the greatest advantages with accessibility is that it offers a competitive advantage for the case company so that it would be able to win more business by offering a special focus on web accessibility.
