    Online optical method for real-time surface measurement using line-of-light triangulation2013Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Real time paper surface-web measurement is one of the challenging research fields. The traditional laboratory method has many limitations and is unable to measure the entire tambour during the manufacturing process. It has been necessary to develop an online technique that could measure the surface topography in real time. An optical technique was developed, based on laser triangulation, and is applied to develop a new prototype device, which characterizes high speed paper-web surfaces over a wide scale of spatial wavelengths spectrum and computes the surface roughness in real time. The used multi channel pulsed laser diode, source of illumination onto the paper-web, is of benefit due to its low coherence length and is capable to deliver a powerful burst of light beam over a 1 µs duration, which delivers energy of 100 µJ per pulse. The short exposure time avoids blurriness in the acquired images which could possible due to the high speed and vibrations on the paper-web.

    The laser beam is shaped into a narrow line-of-light using cylindrical lenses and is projected onto a paper-web surface, which covers a physical length of about 210 mm. The created line-of-light cross section full width at half maximum, FWHM Gaussian distribution, is 2-3 pixels on the image. The line-of-light is projected onto the paper-web perpendicular to the plane of the surface. The low angled, low specular, reduced coherence length, scattered reflected laser line is captured by the 3 CCD sensors, which are synchronized with the laser source. The low specular light ensures to avoid saturation of the imaging sensors if the surface is very smooth, and obliquely captures the z-directional fine feature of the surface.

    The scattered phenomenon of the reflected light is responsible for the surface irregularity measurements. The basic image processing algorithm is applied in order to remove noise and cropped the images widthwise so that only pixels above a preset threshold gray level can be processed, which enables efficient real time measurement. The image is transformed into a 1D array using the center of gravity, COG. The accuracy and precision of the COG depends on the line-of-light FWHM, which, in turn, is responsible for the accuracy, noise and the resolution of the developed technique. The image subpixel resolution achieved is 0.01 times a pixel and uuncertainty in the raw data is 0.43 µm while it is 0.05 µm in the rms roughness.

    The signal processing steps combining the B-Spline filter and the filter in the spatial frequency domain were employed in order to separate roughness, waviness, and form and position error in the raw profile. The prototype is designed to measure online surface roughness and to characterize surface in a spatial wavelength spectrum from 0.09 to 30 mm, which is extendable to any required spatial range in order to cover a wide scale surface feature such as micro roughness, macro roughness and waviness. It is proven that exploitation of a simple laser triangulation technique could lead to an improvement in the overall quality and efficiency in the paper and paperboard industries and it can also be of potential interest for the other surface characterization problems.

    Abstract [en]

    Real time surface topography measurement in the paper and paperboard industries is a challenging research field. The existing online techniques measure only a small area of paper surface and estimate topographical irregularities in a narrow scale as a single predictor. Considering the limitations and complications in measuring the surface at high speed, a laser line triangulation technique is explored to measure surface topography in a wide scale. The developed technique is new for the paper and paperboard application that scans a line onto the paper-web surface up to 210 mm in length in the cross machine direction. The combination of a narrow laser linewidth imaging, a subpixel resolution, and the selection of a unique measurement location has made it possible to measure roughness and simultaneously characterize paper surface topography from 0.1 to 30 mm spatial wavelength. This spatial range covers wide scale surface properties such as roughness, cockling, and waviness. The technique clearly distinguishes and characterizes the surface of newspaper, and lightweight coated, coated, and uncoated paperboard in real time during the paper manufacturing process. The system temporal noise for the average roughness is estimated as 37 dB. The signal to noise ratio found is from 5.4 to 8.1 in the short spatial wavelength up to 1 mm, whereas it is more than 75 in the long spatial wavelength from 5 to 10 mm.

    A new prototype device has been developed based on a laser triangulation principle to measure online surface topography in the paper and paperboard industries. It characterizes the surface in a wide spatial scale of topography from 0.09-10 mm. The prototype's technique projects a narrow line-of-light perpendicularly onto the moving paper-Web surface and scattered reflected light is collected at a low angle, low specular, and reduced coherent length onto the CCD sensors synchronized with the laser sources. The scattering phenomenon determines surface deviations in the z-direction. The full-width, at half-maximum of a laser line in cross section is sensitive in computation of the surface topography. The signal processing aspect of the image processing, for example, threshold and filtering algorithms are also sensitive in estimating the accurate surface features. Moreover, improper light illumination, intensity, reflection, occlusion, surface motion, and noise in the imaging sensor, and so forth, all contribute to deteriorate the measurements. Optical techniques measure the surface indirectly and, in general, an evaluation of the performance and the limitations of the technique are both essential and challenging. The paper describes the accuracy, uncertainty, and limitations of the developed technique in the raw profiles and in terms of the rms roughness. The achieved image subpixel resolution is 0.01 times a pixel. Statistically estimated uncertainty (2σ) in the laboratory environment was found 0.05 μm for a smooth sample, which provides a 95% confidence level in the rms roughness results. The depth of field of the prototype is ~2.4 mm.

    Paper and paperboard surface quality is constantly being improved by the industry. This improvement work deals with the essential fact that the surface topography must be measured, both in relation to offline and online measurements for the manufactured products. Most measurements relating to surface topography (especially online) are performed either in the machine direction (MD) or in the cross direction (CD). It has been the opinion of SCA Ortviken AB and Iggesund Paperboard AB that the surface topography amplitudes are almost always higher in the CD than in the MD, for their products which consist of newspaper and paperboard. This article aims to investigate the rela-tionship between the CD and the MD surface topography amplitudes for a wide range of spatial wavelength for both newspaper and paperboard. The tests and investiga-tions have been conducted using an FRT Microprof profilometer within the range 20 μm up to 8 mm, and the results confirm that the surface topography amplitudes are higher in the CD for most of the shorter spatial wavelength within this range. The results also show significant differences between measurements for different paper qualities, suggesting a requirement to investigate the relationship between the CD and the MD topography for all paper and paperboard qualities of interest for a paper or paperboard mill, before a decision is made in relation to a measurement method.

    The Visegrad Group, consisting of Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, is a subregional cooperation that is in the Central Europe. Its goal is to create a region where these countries can easily work together in the fields of common interests, above all the main objective of EU membership. Since 2004, all the four Visegrad countries have gained a full membership status of European Union and the question remains what political function, role and influence the Visegrad Group has in the larger context of European Integration after achieving this goal.The purpose of this study is to examine what political function, role and influence the Visegrad Group has in the larger context of European Integration. As a subregional cooperation, the V4 will be analyzed by studying its political function in two sectors, defence and environment, from a regionalist perspective.

    Meningen med denna studie var att låta de biologiska barnen i familjehemmet komma till tals om hur de upplevde uppväxten i ett familjehem och hur uppväxtförhållanden har påverkat dem som vuxna. För att besvara studiens syfte har vi använt oss av tidigare forskning inom det valda ämnesområdet. Vi valde en halvstrukturerad intervjumetod med öppna underfrågor där intervjuguiden var vårt underlag för våra samtal. Respondenterna inledde med en liten berättelse av sin uppväxt. Därefter övergick intervjun till att vara strukturerad med en öppen rörlighet i både frågor och svar. Analysmetoden vi valde var tematisk där ämnes områden skrevs ner och underfrågor sorterades in under rätt ämnesområde, för att få struktur i arbetet och kunna sammanställa analysen. Undersökningen gjordes ur ett vuxenperspektiv och vi intervjuade två kvinnor och två män med olika familjehemsbakgrund. Männen var uppvuxna med ett familjehemssyskon och kvinnorna med flera familjehemssyskon samtidigt. I studien framkom att flickorna hade fått ta ett större ansvar om sig själv och hade haft förväntningar på sig att vara förstående i många situationer vilket inte pojkarna upplevde att det förväntats av dem. Flickorna hade känt sig i skymundan och känt av rivalitet till sina familjehemssyskon medan pojkarna tog den plats de behövde och hade alltid känt sig delaktig i familjen. Flickorna hade önskat mer tid och uppmärksamhet av sina föräldrar medan pojkarna upplevde att de fått den tid och uppmärksamhet de behövde av sina föräldrar.  Vi kom fram till att det inte går finna någon generell förklaring till hur uppväxten i ett familjehem upplevs, men att de biologiska barnen har det gemensamt att de hjälper familjen genom stöttning och kan många gånger känna oro för sina föräldrar. De problem och svårigheter som uppkommer i ett familjehem får de biologiska barnen många gånger ta del av, vilket kan vara en förklaring på en tidig intellektuell åldersutveckling. De biologiska barnens uppväxtförhållanden påverkar dem till att bli omsorgsgivande med en empatisk förmåga för andra människor i vuxen ålder.

    Theearly stages of growth of high quality YBa2Cu3O7− (YBCO) filmsgrown on (001) Y-ZrO2 (YSZ) substrates by pulsed laser depositionhave been studied using a combination of atomic force microscopyand transmission electron microscopy. A one unit cell thick YBCOlayer and relatively large CuO particles formed in the initialstages. Additional YBCO grew on top of the first layerin the form of one or a few unit cellhigh c-axis oriented islands about 30 nm in diameter. Therounded islands subsequently coalesced into faceted domains. Elongated Y2BaCuO5 particlesnucleated after the first layer of YBCO. A highly texturedBaZrO3 layer formed between the YSZ and the YBCO witha cube-on-cube dominant orientation relationship with respect to the YBCOfilm.     Den stora flyktingvågen är ett aktuellt ämne som även väckt många debatter på internationell nivå. Under 2015 anlände cirka 36 00 ensamkommande barn till sverige. Dessa barn och ungdomar har ställts inför livsförändrande omständigheter. Syftet med denna studie har varit att ta reda på hur socialtjänsten arbetade med ensamkommande barns psykiska ohälsa som målsättningen för ett främjande av integrering i samhället. Datainsamlingen vi använde oss av var genom kvalitativa intervjuer där sju socialsekreterares arbetsmetoder samlats in, samt analyserats med hjälp av en intervjuanalys. Genom semistrukturerade intervjuer har materialet samlats in då för tolkning och analysering. De teorier som studien lutade sig tillbaka på och vad resultatet analyserades utifrån är Aaron Antonovskys KASAM:s känsla av sammanhang samt Abraham Maslows behovstrappa och Empowerment. Slutsatsen och resultatet av denna studie beskriver att socialsekreterare arbetar hela tiden med att uppnå ett så väl och gott arbete gentemot barn och ungdomar som möjligt, samt även att de behov varje barn och ungdom har tillfredsställs samt tillgodoses utifrån bästa och möjliga situation. Socialsekreterare möter dagligen problematik hos barn och ungdomar, problematik som orsakats av resan till ett land eller problematik som orsakats av händelser i ursprungslandet. Arbeten som gynnar barn och ungdomar med psykisk ohälsa resulterar i att hälsan blir bättre och integreringen i ett samhälle blir lyckad samt även att integrationen även den blir lyckad.

    Företag inom stålindustrin tacklas nuförtiden med en fluktuerande och oförutsägbar marknad. Detta resulterar i försiktiga åtgärder och svårigheter med att planera och uppnå långsiktiga mål. Ovissheten leder till att beslut ibland baseras på felaktiga prognoser. I höjden av denna fluktuerande marknad behövs vanligtvis förstärkning i och med att efterfrågan ökar. Detta leder till att företag ställs inför svåra beslut, att anställa ytterligare personal och/eller utöka lagerhållning. Denna marknad kan så småningom vända och detta leder till varsel av personal samt kontraktion av depåer för att hålla en viss vinstnivå, som det tidigare har hänt. Ett av alternativen som återstår i dagsläget är effektivisering av orderhanteringsprocessen för att reducera ledtider och klara av ökande efterfrågan. Lean är en välkänd metod för att effektivera flöden i processer. Företagets reservdelslager arbetar inte med Lean i dagsläget. Syftet med denna fallstudie är att undersöka med värdeflödesanalys(VSM) och diskret händelse simulation vilka kritiska punkter och flaskhalsar som existerar i reservdelslagret och målet är att sedan eliminera de med Lean som arbetssätt. Första steget bestod av att kartlägga orderhanteringsprocessen med en processpromenad och sedan analysera de olika aktiviteterna. Detta möjliggjorde en identifiering av flaskhalsar och kritiska punkter. Resultatet presenterar ett nuläge av företaget med en cykeltid på 224 sekunder/artikel och en ledtid på 1549 sekunder/order. En order har även ett genomsnitt på 6 artiklar varav fem ligger på hyllor och en på lagerautomat. Flödet har illustrerats i ett spagettidiagram. I koppling med teorin har ett par förbättringsförslag föreslagits som exempelvis en omstrukturering av artiklar på hyllor utifrån pareto(ABC)-analys. Detta ska reducera ledtiden. Flaskhalsarna som har identifierats är osynkroniserade arbetsrutiner och ineffektiva lagerstrukturer. Därmed har ett antal effektivare framtida lägen med reducerade ledtider föreslagits. Slutsatsen är att Lean principer som ”Jidoka”(ständiga förbättringar) och Just in time(lägre ledtider i princip) kan implementeras med olika lösningar som VMI, IT och automatisering. Fortsatta studier kan utvärdera varje lösning med DES och även jämföra olika kostnader i förhållande till nytta.

Boron-based GEM (gas electron multiplier) detectors are a promising '3He-free' technology for thermal neutron detection in neutron scattering experiments. In this paper the evolution of boron-based GEM detectors from planar to 3D converters with an application in diffraction measurements is presented. The use of 3D converters coupled with GEMs allows for an optimization of the detector performances. Three different detectors were used for diffraction measurements on the INES instrument at the ISIS spallation source. The performances of the GEM-detectors are compared with those of conventional 3He tubes installed on the INES instrument. The conceptual detector with the 3D converter used in this paper reached a count rate per unit area of about 25% relative to the currently installed 3He tube. Its timing resolution is similar and the signal-to-background ratio (S/B) is 2 times lower.

    Bakgrund: Fysiskt trauma är ett av de största hälsoproblemen i världen. Fysiska skador står för 16 % av den globala sjukdomsbördan. Med nya träningsprogram och arbetssätt har kvalitén på vården förbättrats men vanligen följer en psykisk reaktion på traumat som kan kvarstå under lång tid. Syfte: Syftet var att belysa vuxna personers psykiska hälsa efter ett fysiskt trauma. Metod: Uppsatsen är en litteraturöversikt som baseras på 13 vetenskapliga artiklar. En induktiv innehållsanalys utfördes på artiklarnas resultat. Resultat: Personer som är med om ett fysiskt trauma kan utveckla psykiska störningar relaterat till skadan, bl.a. PTSD (postraumatiskt stress syndrom), ångest, depression och sömnstörningar. Patienter berättar att de inte får hjälp med deras psykiska hälsa. Diskussion: De psykiska påfrestningarna vid trauma är stora. Det är viktigt för vårdpersonal att vara medveten om detta för att inte negligera ev. sjukdomsutveckling hos patienten. Slutsats: Patienters upplevelser av fysiskt trauma är något som behöver uppmärksammas inom vården. Det är viktigt att dessa patienter och anhöriga får möjlighet träffa personal som är utbildad inom krishantering.

    Syftet med studien har varit att fördjupa förståelsen för hur förskollärare uttrycker att de synliggör matematik för förskolebarn. Fyra förskollärare har intervjuats och av deras utsagor framgår att förskolebarnen ges möjlighet att utveckla ett brett spektra inom matematik. De uttrycker att barn utvecklar förståelse för bland annat rum, form, läge och riktning, mängd, ordning, tid och förändring samt problemlösning i såväl spontana och planerade situationer. Av resultatet framgår även att förskollärarna upplever utmaningar med att realisera läroplansmålen i matematik. De faktorer som försvårar arbetet är förskollärares villkor, det pedagogiska ansvaret kontra ointresserade barn och okunskap/dåliga erfarenheter hos förskolepedagogerna. Liksom tidigare forskning visar även denna studie att dåliga erfarenheter av matematik kan hindra förskolepedagogernas lust och förmåga att synliggöra matematik för barnen då de förknippar matematik med traditionell skolundervisning. För förskollärarna i denna studie har kompetensutveckling bidragit till en vidare förståelse för matematik. Studien visar att kunskap om att matematik förekommer i förskolans alla sammanhang och med utgångspunkt i förskolebarnens intressen är av vikt för varje barn ska möta matematik i ett meningsfullt sammanhang.

    Abstract [en]

    Many adolescents do not get the sleep they need to maintain good health. Young people's circadian rhythms do not always correspond with the rest of society, times and requirements. The aim of this study was to compile whether there is scientific evidence that sleep deprivation has consequences for adolescent people. Studies were selected from Pubmed, Cinahl and Psychinfo. After quality assessment eleven remained studies that were considered in three themes and six sub-themes. The results showed that adolescents who had lack of sleep had physical consequences such as increased daytime sleepiness and physical symtoms such as increased BMI, blood pressure, headaches and atopic dermatitis. Sleep shortage resulted in psychological consequences with symptoms of increased feelings of stress, nightmares, depression, anxiety and aggression. Social impacts due to lack of sleep impaired school performance, frequent use of stimulants and drugs, and the risk behavior increased. This indicates that district nurses have a major role in drawing attention to young people's sleep habits to prevent illness in primary and school health. A short sleep screening as part of the health survey would involve early detection of adolescents with sleep problems and reduce the risk for development of risk behaviors.

    AB. Kraven på webbplatsen var bland annat att den skulle skapas i

    WordPress, möjliggöra för kunder att ta del av uppdateringar från veterinärens

    Facebook samt innehålla ett bokningssystem. Projektet genomfördes enligt metoden

    mobile first vilket innebär att man utgår ifrån en liten skärm när man designar

    för att sedan skala upp storleken. Media queries och en flexibel layout

    baserad på relativa enheter har använts för den responsiva designen. För att utvärdera

    webbplatsens användbarhet har användartester genomförts. Resultatet

    är en webbplats som kan användas i enheter med stora såväl som med små skärmar.

    Användartesterna visade på att det var lätt att navigera mellan webbsidorna

    samt att använda både bokningssystemet och kontaktformuläret oavsett skärmstorlek.

    Med WordPress är det dessutom möjligt för veterinären att själv underhålla

    sin webbplats utan att behöva ha kunskaper om att skriva kod.

    The background of our thesis is that the Department of Social Insurance (Försäkringskassan) should lower their absenteeism amongst staff. There is a risk of high absenteeism at several units at the Försäkringskassan and a risk of high costs causes by illness. The purpose of this study was to investigate the employees´ perception on the basis of high and low sick leave at the Försäkringskassan/ activity benefit. The research questions we asked ourselves were;

    • Why do certain units at the Nationellt försäkringscenter/department of Social Insurance have low absenteeism and other units’ high absenteeism?
    • How does leadership affect the employees’ absenteeism?
    • How much does the satisfaction of work environment affect the employees’ absenteeism?
    • How do employees at Nationellt försäkringscenter/activity benefit perceive their physical and psychosocial work environment?

    As a case study organization, the Department of Social Insurance/Nationellt försäkringsccenter/activity benefit has been selected. The results, based on a quantitative survey and a cross-sectional design, show that whether you are working at a unit with low or high absenteeism, many employees have ailments such as pain and stress. This is because the work- environment, requirements and leadership does affect employees’ health. A large number of the employees´ feel dissatisfaction when they go to work and there are many who despair because of the difficulties they face at the workplace. With supported management the employees´ had less insomnia, dissatisfaction and less musculoskeletal disorders.

    Abstract [en]

    The transport that uses multiple modes of transportation called Intermodal transport. Due of the advantages of intermodal transport offers, the market for intermodal transport has become increasingly important. The benefits can be both environmentally and economically. This terminal is the destination where intermodal transport takes place. The purpose of a terminal is to combine two different modes of transport. This can lower the total cost of transportation and reduce environmental pollution. To get a successful intermodal terminals there are a few factors that should be considered. One of these factors is the primary services and incidental services terminus offer.

     

    The purpose of this study is to examine the ancillary services that can be applied to an intermodal terminal in order to increase revenues and attractiveness of the facility. To answer the research questions I interviewed four different operators in intermodal terminals in Sweden. In addition there are also two interviews were carried out with the existing operator in Sundsvall intermodal terminal and the operator of the new intermodal terminal. The purpose of these two interviews was to see what the operators have the opportunity or plan and how it works in Sundsvall existing intermodal terminal in the present day. Literature studies that I used in this study have been covered by previous surveys, reports and books. The purpose of literary studies was to identify intermodal terminals and the new services that can be used on the terminal.

     

    The results of this study gave a very good picture of these ancillary services that can be applied in Sundsvall new intermodal terminal to increase the terminal's revenues and attractiveness. Examples of these services, repair factories of trailers and containers, refueling station in connection with the intermodal terminal, cross-docking, by scrolling with the electric locomotives. Besides these services, there are other factors that should be taken into consideration in order to increase revenues and attractiveness of intermodal terminal. These are the technologies that are used in intermodal terminal, IT support, security and location of the intermodal terminal.

    Abstract [en]

    Students at colleges and universities are to develop information literacy. The purpose of this study is to examine, based on experiences from both campus- as well as distance students, what kind of knowledge is important in order to search for, find and critically use information. The theoretical framework of the study constitutes of sociocultural theory, phenomenographic variation theory and philosophical hermeneutics. The empirical material starts with five semi-structured interviews with students. Following that, a qualitative analysis of content of four selected courses’ syllabus and study guidelines in relation to information literacy was carried out. The result of the study show that students have various degrees of experience of information literacy and also the contents of the chosen syllabus and study guides in relation to information literacy emanates from different perspectives. The knowledge which students develop in connection with the writing of essays and reports is the focus for students to pass their respective course. Therefore, the result of the study problemizes how the knowledge that the students have acquired can be used in their future professional life. This study is a part of an educational project in co-operation with the University Library and the Learning and Resource Centre at the Mid Sweden University regarding the students’ information literacy.

    Abstract [en]

    Through Darcy’s permeability coefficient, K, one can evaluate the resistance of a flexographic ink film to the solvent penetration of an inkjet ink through a paper substrate. This resistance plays an important role for the print quality in hybrid printing applications where flexography and inkjet printing are combined. If this resistance is too high, K→0, the inkjet ink’s solvent would not penetrate into the substrate and ink smearing would occur resulting in poor printability.

    Paper substrates were printed in a flexographic laboratory printing press. The flexographic printing dot area was varied to evaluate the influence of the full tone and halftone areas on K. These print outs were employed as filters for pigmented inkjet water based inks in a filtration setup. The inks had different pigment’s mean particle size which allowed us to address the influence of this parameter on the filter cake build up and consequently, its impact on K. The dot area had indeed an impact in the ink’s solvent penetration as we observed that the higher the dot area, the lower the K value, meaning that the resistance for ink´s solvent flow was higher. The pigment’s mean particle size also showed influence on K, as we observed that the bigger the pigment particles, the higher the K.

     The substrates were selected after a screening based on inkjet ink absorption speed evaluated through a print rub off test and line width measurements of printed lines.

    We also printed the pre-printed flexography images using a KM 512 piezoelectric printing head and one of the inks used during filtration to evaluate the inkjet printing quality for this hybrid printing approach. We observed wider, less blurry and ragged lines with increased dot area. No ink smearing was observed for the print outs.

    Abstract [en]

    We introduced an exfoliation method of MoS2 in a 3% solution of sodium dodecyl surfactant at high concentration (i.e. 2 g/L). The bulk MoS2 was thinned by mechanical exfoliation between sand papers and the resulting powder was used to prepare dispersions by liquid exfoliation through probe sonication. The resulting dispersion consisted of very thin MoS2 nanosheets in surfactant solution with average lateral size around 126 nm. This may be interesting for applications in inkjet printed electronics.

    The Persistence of Subjective Poverty in Urban Ethiopia2012Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Using panel data spanning 15 years, this paper  investigates the persistence and correlates of subjective and consumption  poverty in urban Ethiopia. Despite the decline in consumption poverty in  recent years, which has been linked to rapid economic growth, subjective  poverty has remained largely unchanged. Dynamic probit regression results  show that households with a history of past poverty continue to perceive  themselves as poor even if their material consumption improves. Our results  also suggest that the relative economic position of households is a strong  determinant of subjective poverty, and having at least some type of  employment reduces the likelihood that households will perceive themselves  as poor, even if they remain in objective poverty. Receiving remittances  from abroad, on the other hand, does not reduce perceived poverty, even if  it raises material consumption. We argue that any analysis to measure the  impact of growth on welfare should encompass subjective measures as  well.

    Using data spanning 15 years, we study subjective and consumption poverty in urban Ethiopia. Despite rapid economic growth and declining consumption poverty, subjective poverty remains largely unchanged. We find that households with a history of poverty continue to perceive themselves as poor even if their material consumption improves. The relative economic position of households is a strong determinant of subjective poverty. Having some type of employment makes households less likely to perceive themselves as poor, even if they remain in objective poverty. We argue that any analysis to measure the impact of growth on welfare should also encompass subjective measures.

    Studien studerar vithet och vithetsprivilegium och problemet är att vi lever i en värld där det fortfarande råder vithetshegemoni. Denna hegemoni bidrar till att en del människor utesluts från vissa möjligheter, baserade på ens etniska tillhörighet, sexuella läggning, trosuppfattning etc. Syftet med denna studie är att studera hur ”det vita rummet” upplevs av och påverkar rasifierade kvinnor med afrikansk bakgrund i högre utbildning. Rasifiering beskriver sociala konstruktioner som gör att människor placeras i olika fack. Uppsatsen är en kvalitativ studie som bygger på två fokusgrupper med totalt 6 kvinnliga informanter med afrikansk bakgrund. De resultat som framträder i undersökningen är att informanterna upplevde diskriminering under sin universitetstid dock, främst från lärare och studenter. De menar att det inte är själva utbildningen som har en ensidig bild och upprätthåller diskriminering utan det är människorna de mött på under sin universitetstid som utsatt de för diskriminering. Denna utsatthet som kvinnorna upplevt har påverkat de då dem reflekterat över sina möjligheter respektive hinder i att vara en svart kvinna. Kvinnornas olika upplevelser visar på hur diskriminering är ett strukturellt problem när de inte endast mött på diskriminering av klasskamrater utan även av professorer och av utbildningsmaterial som diskuteras senare i studien. Ett sådant fenomen bör tas på samhällsnivå och inte på individnivå som kan kopplas till olika perspektiv och tidigare forskning som kan förklara deras erfarenheter.

    Bakgrund:

    Antalet patienter som lever med att fått en cancerdiagnos ökar med modern diagnostik och behandling. Detta leder till ökad belastning på vården. Under senare år har viss uppföljning av patientgruppen kommit att skötas av sjuksköterskor via telefon.

    Syfte:

    Att belysa cancerpatienters upplevelser av sjuksköterskeledd telefonuppföljning.

    Metod:

    Litteraturöversikt baserad på elva artiklar med kvalitativ eller kvantitativ ansats.. Resultaten från artiklarna granskades, analyserades och sammanställdes. Använda databaser var CINAHL och PubMed.

    Resultat:

    Analysen resulterade i sex kategorier: Trygg relation till sjuksköterskan, Behov av information samt att detta behov tillgodoses, Bekvämt och tidsbesparande alternativ, Möjlighet till ett normalt liv, Ekonomiska vinster och Känna sig generellt nöjd med uppföljningen. Diskussion: Patientupplevelsen av sjuksköterskeledd telefonuppföljning var positiv. En god relation till sjuksköterskan har samband med känslan av trygghet.

    Slutsats:

    Patienterna var generellt nöjda med den sjuksköterskeledda telefonuppföljningen. Sjuksköterskeledd telefonuppföljning visade inte på några negativa upplevelser hos patientgruppen. Ingenting i litteraturöversiktens resultat tyder på att det skulle missgynna patienterna om mängden sjuksköterskeledda telefonuppföljningar skulle öka. Fler studier skulle behövas för att ytterligare belysa vad patienterna upplever för behov och för att sjuksköterskan i framtiden ska kunna forma uppföljningen på bästa sätt.

    Syftet med studien var att inom ramen för en organisation förstå hur användare upplever ett socialt intranät som ett verktyg för interaktion samt vad som motiverar till användning och vad denna användning har fått för konsekvenser i användarnas arbete. Studien har utgått ifrån det sociokulturella perspektivet på lärande och därmed finns centrala begrepp som har används för att förstå resultatet. Dessa begrepp var kommunikation, information och kunskap. Det empiriska materialet för denna kvalitativa fallstudie hämtades in genom intervjuer med anställda på en mindre statlig myndighet i Sverige. Resultatet visade på att användningen av det sociala intranätet på myndigheten har lett till ökad insyn i organisationen. Användningen resulterade även i en ny delning utav information som innan införandet av det sociala intranätet inte funnits. Denna plattform har även gett större möjligheter att öka kunskap genom informell kommunikation på den statliga myndigheten.

    Bakgrund: Erektil dysfunktion (ED) definieras som nedsatt erektionsförmåga. En källa till bekräftelse är att utrycka sig sexuellt och att kunna tillfredställa kvinnor sexuellt är förenat med stolthet för många män. Kvinnor söker hjälp för bristande lust medan männen söker för erektions- eller andra funktionsstörningar. Sjukdomar, läkemedel och psykiska orsaker kan ge upphov till ED, oftast samverkar flera faktorer. Syfte: Litteraturstudiens syfte var att belysa mäns kunskap om och upplevelse av att drabbas av ED. Metod: Artiklar söktes via PubMed och Cinahl, bearbetades utifrån syfte och frågeställningar, kvalitetsbedömdes och sammanställdes. Tretton artiklar analyserades efter inspiration av innehållsanalys. Resultat: Män drabbade av ED upplevde att problemet inverkat på sexuallivet, självförtroendet och manligheten men inte i relationen till sin partner. Männen hade liten kunskap om riskfaktorer och efterfrågade mera information. Mer än hälften av männen med ED ansåg att gensvaret från vårdens var otillfredsställande. Diskussion: Mer resurser efterfrågas för att hjälpa män och par med ED, sannolikt skulle deras livskvalitet och livet i helhet förbättras, då detta är nära sammankopplat med tillfredställelsen i sexuallivet, parförhållandet och familjelivet. Slutsats: Begränsad specificerad hjälp finns för män och ämnet känns många gånger genant därför är det sjuksköterskans skyldighet att lyfta sexualitet i samtal och anamnesupptagning.

    Design of a Parallel A/D-converter System on PCB - For High-Speed Sampling and Timing Error Correction: Examensarbete - Linköpings universitet2002Other (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The goals for most of today´s receiver system are sampling at high-speed, with high resolution and with as few errors as possible. This master thesis describes the design of a high-speed sampling system with �state-of-the-art� components available on the market. The system is designed with a parallel Analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architecture, also called time interleaving. It aims to increase the sampling speed of the system. The system described in this report uses four 12-bits ADCs in parallel. Each ADC can sample at 125 MHz and the total sampling speed will then theoretically become 500 Ms/s. The system has been implemented and manufactured on a printed circuit board (PCB). Up to four boards can be connected in parallel to get 2 Gs/s theoretically. In an approach to increase the systems performance even further, a timing error estimation algorithm will be used on the sampled data. This algorithm estimates the timing errors that occur when sampling with non-uniform time interval between samples. After the estimations, the sampling clocks can be adjusted to correct the errors. This thesis is concerning some ADC theory, system design and PCB implementation. It also describes how to test and measure the system�s performance. No measurement results are presented in this thesis because measurements will be done after this project. The last part of the thesis discusses future improvements to achieve even higher performance.

    Abstract [en]

    All who is involved in electronic design knows that one of the critical issues

    in today’s electronic is the power consumption. Designers are always looking for

    new approaches in order to reduce currents while still retain performance.

    Floating-gate (FGMOS) circuits have previously been shown to be a promising

    technique to improve speed and still keep the power consumption low when

    power supply is reduced below subthreshold voltage for the transistors.

    In this thesis, the goal is to determine how good floating-gate circuits can be

    compared to conventional static CMOS when the circuits are working in

    subthreshold. The most interesting performance parameters are speed and power

    consumption and specifically the Energy-Delay Product (EDP) that is a

    combination of those two. To get a view over how the performance varies and how

    good the FGMOS circuits are at their best case, the circuits have been designed and

    simulated for best case performance.

    The investigation also includes trade-offs with speed and power

    consumption for better performance, how to select floating-gate capacitances, how

    a large circuit fan-in will affect performance and also the influence of different

    kinds of refresh circuits.

    The first simulations of the FGMOS circuits in a 0.13 μm process have

    several interesting results. First of all, in the best case it is shown that FGMOS has

    potential to achieve up to 260 times in better EDP-performance compared to CMOS

    at 150 mV power supply. Continuing with simulations of FGMOS capacitances

    shows that minimum floating-gate capacitance can be as small as 400 fF and more

    realistic performance shows that EDP is 37 times better for FGMOS (with parasitic

    capacitances included). Other aspects of FGMOS design have been to look at how

    refresh circuits will affect performance (semi-floating-gate circuits) and how a

    larger fan-in will change noise margin and EDP. It turns out that refresh circuits

    with the same transistor size does not give a noticeable change in performance

    while an increase of 8 times in size will give between 5 and 10 times wors EDP.

    When it comes to fan-in the simulations shows that a maximum fan-in of 5 is

    possible at 250 mV supply and it decrease to 3 when supply voltage is reduced to

    150 mV.

    Finally, it should be kept in mind that tuning the performance of FGMOS

    circuits with trade-offs and by changing the floating-gate voltages to achieve

    results like the ones stated above will also always affect the noise margins, NM, of

    the circuits. As a consequence of this, the NM will sometimes be so close to 1 that a

    fabricated circuit with that NM may not be as functional as simulations suggests.

    The probability to design functional FGMOS circuits in subthreshold does not

    seem to be a problem though.

    When power supply for circuits is reduced the performance will also drop accordingly and to keep up the performance while lowering power supply is an important issue. Floating-gate circuits (FGMOS) have previously been simulated with low power supply and basic digital gates and circuits have already been designed and studied to determine speed and power performance. In this paper we try to expand the circuit library for subthreshold power supply FGMOS circuits by including a floating-gate memory element in terms of a D-latch. Our simulations at 250 mV power supply of a FGMOS D-latch are compared with other D-latches based on static CMOS and mirrored gate elements. The simulations we have performed shows that static CMOS has an advantage in performance of several orders of magnitude in terms of power consumption, while PDP and EDP performance are also better than for FGMOS. When it comes to speed performance, we show that the FGMOS D-latch can be up to 18 times faster than CMOS at the expense of up to three orders of magnitude higher power consumption.

    Abstract [en]

    To reduce power consumption in electronic designs, new techniques for circuit design must always be considered. Floating-gate MOS (FGMOS) is one of those techniques and has previously shown potentially better performance than standard static CMOS circuits for ultra-low power designs. One reason for this is because FGMOS only requires a few transistors per gate and still retain a large fan-in. Another reason is that CMOS circuits becomes very slow in subthreshold region and are not suitable in many applications while FGMOS can have a shift in threshold voltage to increase speed performance. This paper investigates how the performance of an FGMOS full-adder circuit will compare with two common CMOS full-adder designs. Simulations in a 120 nm process shows that FGMOS can have up to 9 times better EDP performance at 250 mV. The simulations also show that the FGMOS full-adder is 32 times faster and have two orders of magnitude higher power consumption than that for CMOS.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper shows simulation results from a recentlyproposed Pseudo Floating-Gate (PFG) technique for use insubthreshold. The design and simulations is performed in a 120nm process CMOS technology and show that there arelimitations that will make subthreshold PFG very difficult tomanufacture with full functionality. The simulations showlimitations in fan-in that will contribute to making it harder tomanufacture structures that have small area or a higharithmetic complexity per active element. It also showbandwidth limitations for the input and output signals.As a complement to the simulations of our PFG design we havealso made a summary of several different kinds of PFGtechniques that are previously developed and some of theirlimitations. The summary also tries to determine where thePFG techniques originates from and present an overview of themost obvious limitations they have.

    The work described in this paper is performed toestimate the influence of statistical process variations andtransistor mismatch that occurs in fabrication and affectfloating-gate digital circuits. These effects will affect and reduce“yield” (percentage of fully functional circuits). Monte Carlosimulations have been performed in a 90 nm to estimate theyield for manufactured floating-gate circuits running withsubthreshold power supply. The power supply, floating-gatecharge voltage (VFGP and VFGN) and transistor sizes have beenvaried during the simulations and the yield has been observed.The simulation results shows that by doubling the minimumsize transistors (length and width) the yield can be much betterthan for minimum size version. A yield of 100% can though notbe expected if the power supply is scaled down below 250 mV.

In this paper the basic performance related propertiessuch as power, delay, power-delay product (PDP),and energy-delay product (EDP) for floating-gate circuitsoperating in subthreshold are investigated. Based on circuitsimulations in a 120nm process technology, it isshown that for the best case, the power can be reducedapproximately by one order of magnitude at the expenseof increased delay, while the PDP is more or less constantin comparison to static CMOS. The EDP can be reducedby two orders of magnitude at the expense of reducednoise margins.

In this paper we have investigated how the performance of FGMOS circuits will change in subthreshold region. Simulation in a 120 nm process technology shows that FGMOS will not be working for circuits that have a large fan-in and might not be useable for many designs. At 250 mV power supply it can have a maximum fan-in of 5 and for 150 mV the maximum is 3. FGMOS simulations of an improved full-adder structure with fan-in of 3 is also proposed and compared to a conventional structure with fan-in of 5. It is shown that the improved full-adder with fan-in 3 will have more than 36 times better energy-delay product (EDP)

By having a DC offset on the floating gates, the effective threshold voltage of the floating-gate transistor is adjusted and the speed and power performance can be altered. In this paper we have investigated how the floating-gate capacitances can be selected to achieve the best performance in floating-gate circuits operating at subthreshold power supply. Based on circuit simulations in a 120nm process technology, it is shown that the EDP offers a reduction of more than one order of magnitude for FGMOS with capacitance selection in comparison to static CMOS circuits. This paper also deals with the possibilities available for trade-offs between lower power consumption and higher speed to achieve a better performance for FGMOS than for static CMOS. The main cost involved in achieving these performance improvements is reduced noise margins

    For digital circuits with ultra-low power consumption, floating-gate circuits (FGMOS) have been considered to be a potentially better technique than standard static CMOS circuits. For each new generation of process technology the thickness of the transistor gate-oxide will be reduced. This will increase charge leakage in FGMOS circuits and it is therefore necessary to introduce techniques to keep the charge in the node. In this paper we investigate how the most commonly used refresh circuits (quasi-and pseudo-floating gate) affect the performance when they are connected to an FGMOS circuit working with subthreshold power supply. The simulations show that refresh circuits equal in size compared to FGMOS will not have much influence on performance while it is reduced up to an order in magnitude when the size increase 8 times. This strong impact from the refresh circuitry also indicates that it might not be an option for future technologies.
