    Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze the effects of radical changes within regions by providing an empirical base from 12 Swedish municipalities from different regions. The specific focus of the paper is the role of entrepreneurship, both as an opportunity-seeking activity in order to find and develop new business undertakings, as well as entrepreneurship as a perspective for supporting activities in the public or private spheres. The results are based on interviews and surveys, secondary data, information from regional governments, municipal websites and also from other public information channels. Two questions were raised in analysing the case: (1) What types of contextual factors are of strategic importance when regions are challenged by radical change, and what role do these factors have in a regional restructuring and development process? (2) What types of policy and support measures are productive for entrepreneurial activities in regions when adaptation to radical change is required? The results presented by the study provide insight into how the development of local economies is affected when conditions change in a region due to the closure of a major public workplace. The paper also tries to present opportunities through which municipalities are able to prepare for and take action to help entrepreneurial activity face ongoing structural change and a globalized local economy.

What do respondents bring to contingent valuation?: A comparison of monetary and labor payment vehicles2014In: Journal of Environmental Economics and Policy, ISSN 2160-6544, Vol. 3, no 3, p. 253-267Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In the contingent valuation method, both the goods being valued and the payment vehicles used to value them are mostly hypothetical. However, although numerous studies have examined the impact of experience with the good on the willingness to pay, less attention has been given to experience with the payment vehicles. This paper examines how experience with payment vehicles influence responses to a contingent valuation scenario on maintaining irrigation canals in a developing country. Specifically, the paper uses a split-sample survey to investigate the effects of experience with monetary and labor payment vehicles on the acceptance of a contingent valuation scenario, protest bids and mean willingness to pay. Using convergent validity tests, we found that experience acquired from using both monetary and labor payment vehicles reduces the asymmetries in acceptance rates. These findings suggest that experience with payment vehicles reduces time/money response asymmetries in the contingent valuation method.

Nudging Boserup?: The impact of fertilizer subsidies on investment in soil and water conservation2012Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The new fertilizer subsidies in sub-Saharan Africa are intended to increase agricultural production and ensure development of a fertilizer market. Fertilizer adoption requires complementary inputs, such as investment in soil and water conservation (SWC), for efficient and optimal nutrient uptake, and many fertilizer subsidy programs implicitly assume that fertilizer subsidies crowd in such investments. The results of our study of the impact of fertilizer subsidies on SWC efforts in Ghana indicate that beneficiaries of the program do not invest significantly more in SWC. This suggests that policies should not expect farmers to respond to fertilizer subsidies with substantial investment in SWC. Thus, in order to achieve increased investment in SWC for sustainable agricultural development, more comprehensive measures that include fertilizer investments explicitly (such as integrated soil fertility management programs) may be needed.

    Abstract [en]

As a result of adaptation to EU Commission's Fourth Company Law Directive the audit requirement for small companies was abolished on 1 November 2010. Today, about 80 percent of newly registered companies choose to waive the audit and more than half of the active limited liability companies in total choose not to have an Accountant. In the opinion to the investigation of auditors and audit, Companies Registration Office feared that the qualityof the Annual Reports among smaller companies would be impaired and that the delay fees would increase.Studies i Great Britain has shown that the probability of failures in the Annual Reports is higher for companies who have renounced audit. Sweden lack of research in this area, but evidence suggests that the Swedish Annual Reports is no exception. An evaluation of the deregulation is expected to be initiated in spring 2015.Annual Accounts Act prescribes provisions on the establishment and publication of annual reports. The Act is supplemented by accounting standards whose purpose is to increase comparability between companies in different countries. Companies Registration Office is stakeholders whose mission is to receive, review and publish Annual Reports and registerchanges in companies. The Authority shall maintain a legally secure handling and relate to different principles of administrative law in the handling of the financial statements submitted to them. The main purpose of this study was to describe and analyze whether the abolition of audit requirements för smaller companies has affected the quality of accounting and legal certainty, from the Companies Registration Office point of view. The study was conducted using qualitative methodology and the main empirical material was gathered through semistructured interviews. The study confirms that the quality of the annual reports has deteriorated and that late fees have increased. Due to varying quality of annual reports legal certainty, which have previously been relatively high, is being threatened. Companies Registration Office's representatives was correct in their suspicions of the reform. Companies Registration Office believed, however, that the quality would drop to a greater extent than it has done.

Small town centre attractiveness: evidence from Sweden2016In: International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management, ISSN 0959-0552, E-ISSN 1758-6690, Vol. 44, no 4, p. 465-488Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the qualities of a small town centre and how such centres can enhance their attractiveness. Design/methodology/approach – A convenience sampling procedure was used to administer a web survey to visitors of a small Swedish town. Importance-performance analysis and statistical methods were used to analyse quality attributes and quality dimensions. Correlation analysis was run to measure the relationship between centre attractiveness and shopping loyalty. Findings – The variety of retail outlets is what is most valued by visitors to a small town centre, followed by the provision of events and non-commercial activities and the design and maintenance of the physical environment in the centre. Surprisingly, the interpersonal behaviour has less impact on the perceived attractiveness than the aforementioned quality dimensions. Visitors' shopping loyalty is significantly related to the perceived attractiveness. Research limitations/implications – The study is a one-off study based upon a small Swedish town, but it is indicative of global shopping trends. Practical implications – Implications for town centre management to enhance the attractiveness of the business district of a small town. Social implications – Traditional town centres have been props for the surrounding societies, providing anscillary services beside retailing. When retail moves to out-of-town retail locations, this could lead to the erosion of interpersonal communications and central services for citizens. Originality/value – Pioneering research on small Swedish town shopping.

    Abstract [en]

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is gaining increased attention in marketing thought. The purpose of this paper is to map the state of art of CRM research that focus on conditions in SMEs. A literature review is carried out with this purpose. It is found that CRM in SMEs is an embryotic research field, but it is also foreseen that it is a research field of increasing relevance, and that the application of the CRM concept in SMEs must take the particular features of SMEs in account. A number of such SME features are remarked upon in the CRM literature, and even though the articles reviewed are not addressing what is considered proper CRM, it is concluded that they are features that are of importance also to the application of CRM policies and practices in SMEs.

    Abstract [en]

In a quantitative approach, this paper examines the long term relationship between the stock market and house market in Sweden between 2004 and 2013 using Granger causality test and VAR analysis. The result is divided into different areas to examine if there are any differences in the relationship between the areas. The result shows that there exists a long term relationship between the stock market and house market in 8 of 10 areas in Sweden. This relationship is positive and runs from the stock market to the house market, which means that a rising in the stock market causes a rise in the house prices. This is consistent with a wealth effect. The VAR analysis shows divergent results where Stockholm has a negative relationship between the house market and the stock market.

Protected areas as attractions2007In: Annals of Tourism Research, ISSN 0160-7383, E-ISSN 1873-7722, Vol. 34, no 4, p. 839-854Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study explores protected areas as attractions and their influence on tourists’ behavior. The importance of differing protection status (national parks, world heritage sites, and biosphere reserves) is discussed. Data come from surveys conducted in protected areas in the Swedish mountain region. The results show that protection status matters to tourists, and it affects the decision to visit the area, but to a variable degree among the study sites. It is concluded that different protected area labels function as touristic markers but that the name national park has a stronger effect on tourists than the labels of world heritage site and biosphere reserve.

Revisorsbranschen i Sverige under hundra år2009Book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Kvinnornas intåg i revisionsbranschen2012Report (Other academic)
