    Transformation of business collaboration in a digital age: Towards a multi-relation perspective2019Licentiatavhandling, med artikler (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

    The process of digitalisation is progressively transforming the way business is carried out and how enterprises collaborate. In this digital age, characterised by collaborations among a larger community of suppliers, customers, employees, and governments, all partners need to understand avariety of relations and how digitalisation transforms them. However, it is difficult to understand the multitude of unclear or even unknown relations generated by re-coordinating different types of relations in this digital age. Accordingly, this thesis contributes to the understanding of the transformation of business collaboration by exploring how collaboration can be understood in a digital age. The theoretical concepts involved collaboration, enterprise architecture, enterprise interoperability, and boundary object. These concepts enabled digging deeper into the complexity of sharing and aligning social and cultural worlds between communities of practice. The methodology employed was hermeneutics, which was suitable for understanding human activities. The study object concerned national development of data hubs for the electricity market in Denmark and Sweden, which replaced an old way of communicating point to point between companies. This was implemented in order to coordinate and manage data transactions between grid companies and electricity suppliers. The results indicated that digitalisation tends to increase the ability to manage collaboration and even closer relations among partners by clearly identifying every partner role and responsibility. Further, business collaboration appeared to transform from a traditional collaboration to a multi-relation collaboration that addressed digital age demands more comprehensively.

    Abstract [en]

    Digital technology enables multi-relational collaborations between parties with different experiences, knowledge, values, and goals. Regarding digital technology triggering enterprise transformation, boundary object as theoretical model for understanding such differences in development is not well understood, especially the ways boundary object emerges in practice. We inquired what traces of boundary object properties can be identified in data hub development narratives. An interpretive approach was chosen for understanding experience-centered narratives that origins from interviews conducted in two separate studies of national development of data hubs for the electricity market in Denmark and Sweden respectively. Through a literature review covering boundary objects, nine prosperities were chosen for the theoretical frame used in the interpretation of the narratives. The conclusion was that boundary object properties were part of the narratives of the data hub developments early on in the in-use taking processes and even before the digital artifact was taken into use.

    Abstract [en]

    Besides maximizing multiplexing gain. improving diversity is important for reliable communications in the presence of interference. In this context, on-off switched interference alignment (IA) is investigated, where IA is intermittently utilized by switching IA on/off in order to improve diversity gain in an interference channel and hence to maximize diversity multiplexing tradeoff (DMT). This paper adopts Alamouti coding based IA for the on-off switched IA, which requires only local channel state information at the transmitter. Optimizing the portion of IA utilization of the proposed scheme in closed form, we derive the achievable DMT and show that the intermittent utilization of IA with simultaneous non-unique decoding can improve DMT in the 2-user X-channel with two antennas. The proposed scheme, to the best of our knowledge, surpasses any other existing schemes for the 2-user X-channel with two antennas and is closed to the ideal DMT.

    Abstract [en]

    To improve diversity gain in an interference channel and hence to maximize diversity multiplexing tradeoff (DMT), we propose on-off switched interference alignment (IA) where IA is intermittently utilized by switching IA on/off. For on-off switching, either IA with symbol extension or IA with Alamouti coding is adopted in this paper. Deriving and analyzing DMT of the proposed schemes, we reveal that the intermittent utilization of IA with simultaneous non-unique decoding can improve DMT in the 2-user X-channel with two antennas. Both the proposed schemes are shown to achieve diversity gain of 4 and DoF per user of 4/3 . In particular, the on-off switched IA with Alamouti coding, to the best of our knowledge, surpasses any other existing schemes for the 2-user X-channel with two antennas and nearly approaches the ideal DMT.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between e-Government and Democracy. The first step in fulfilling this quest was to find indexes which appropriately quantify these very general terms. As e-Government is a diffusely defined concept with applications and functionality spanning the entire spectrum of management, two indexes are used that measure different aspects of the concept; UN e-participation index (EPI) and e-Government Development Index (EGDI). Thus, a broader view of e-government is captured and contrasts are made visible between them. To measure the maturity of democracy in corresponding nations, The Economist Intelligence Unit Democracy Index (EIU) was chosen. The two indexes for e-government are subjected to three separate statistical tests against the Democracy index; Correlation, Clusters and Linear Regression. The tests are performed using IBM SPSS Statistics software. Results show statistically significant correlation between EGDI and EIU but at the same time points to a negative trend over the 2008-2018 time periods. Significant correlation is confirmed between EPI and EIU as well, although with positive trend over the same period. Cluster analysis identifies four distinct groups within given data, each of which exhibits distinctive character traits. One of which is of particular interest, for it exhibits the traits described by several critics of the indices in question; namely well-developed e-government but corresponding lack of democratic indicators. Finally, linear regression analysis is applied where EGDI and EPI are defined as independent variables. The analysis generates coefficients with which the EIU Democracy index for specific nations can be predicted. EGDI is shown to have a stronger relationship with EIU than EPI has, since a greater proportion of the variance within the dependent variable (EIU) can be explained by EGDI.

    Blockchain, främst känd som teknologin bakom Bitcoin, kan användas till mycket mer än kryptovalutor. World Economic Forum har nyligen listat 65 exempel på hur tekniken kan bidra till att lösa olika miljöutmaningar och MIT:s tidskrift Technology Review har beskrivit hur blockchain används i ett flyktingläger för att människor ska kunna köpa förnödenheter utan att behöva vare sig identitetshandlingar eller kontanter. Med nya tekniker för att hantera mänskliga aktiviteter följer också nya former för dokumentation av dessa. I denna artikel kommer vi därför ge en översiktlig bild av hur blockchain kan användas inom arkivsektorn.

    Abstract [en]

    The report handles the process of creating a website for Outdoor Bräcke. Outdoor Bräcke is a substantial outdoor facility built and planned by the sports association Bräcke Sportsclub. The facility does not have a website and with the goal of spreading information about the facility to the public a graphic profile has been created, with a website, logotype and color scheme. Analysis about web usability was made to answer the main problem statements in the project: What purpose does a website serve for a sports association? What functionalities does a association require on their website? Does associations really need websites? The result of these questions vary due to social medias large role in today's society, associations doesn't need a website to spread information. An outdoor facility like Outdoor Bräcke could use a website where visitors can book the facility online and find information without having to navigate around on social media. The project has specialized on usability to create a website that is easy to use and accessible. The website was sketched on a design tool and the coded with Laravel, which is a framework for the programminglanguage PHP. The report also goes through different usability principles and what tools are used to reach these result. Usability plays a large role in how websites are consumed today, and they require a high usability level for visitors to stay on a website. In the report a in-depth analysis has been made on the current option for a website for Outdoor Bräcke to see how it can be improved and how the current situation is.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

    Digital records appraisal and aspects of archival values in theory, regularization and practice are explored. This paper aims to reflect upon the appraisal process, responsibility and norms for value creation in a digitalized environment. The research question was how do appraisal theory, normative rules and appraisal practice meet the aims of values in digital archives?

    Design/methodology/approach

    The study triangulated appraisal theory, normative values and participants’ views about archival values in appraisal practice in a Swedish setting. Content analysis were used to explore normative documents and interviews. Appraisal theories of the Swedish Nils Nilsson and the Canadian Terry Cook were interpreted. The result was related to theories on public values, the nature of responsibility and relations between the state and citizens.

    Findings

    The results show influences between theory, norms and practice. Changes in norms and practice do not follow the development of digitalization. Responsibility is focused on tasks, which exposes risks of accountability control and knowledge of appraisal grounds. The paper concludes that access requirements and user needs may prompt change in appraisal processes. In the light of digitalization, “primary and secondary value” are merely a matter of use and usability in a time and space (continuum) perspective.

    Research limitations/implications

    This study is based in Sweden where extensive right of access to public records and default preservation are norm.

    Originality/value

    The result shows how allocated responsibilities impinge on a re-active digital appraisal process.

    Denna uppsats presenterar en kvalitativ undersökning som gjorts i syfte att visa vilka likheter och olikheter det finns på synen på bevarande av arkivinformation som bevis inom arkiv- och informationsvetenskap jämfört med e-Discovery. Målet med undersökningen var också att öka förståelsen för synen på vilka krav som ställs på bevarad information för att den ska kunna användas som bevis, både på kort och lång sikt. De data som samlats in består främst av akademiska artiklar och andra texter, där en kvalitativ innehållsanalys har använts för att tolka den latenta informationen i dessa texter. Den teori som använts som grund för denna analys är Records Continuum-teorin, där bevisaxeln har varit till störst användning. Resultatet visar att synen på bevarande av arkivinformation som bevis skiljer sig en del inom arkiv- och informationsvetenskapen och e-Discovery, men vissa likheter finns också. Det visar vidare också att tidsspannet som information anses värdefull att bevara skiljer sig mellan de två och att detta beror på att man fokuserar på olika saker. Detta påverkar slutligen vilka sammanhang information bevaras i, och vilket bevisvärde den får.

    Abstract [en]

    The transition of camera technology from film-based cameras to digital cameras has been witnessed in the past twenty years, along with impressive technological advances in processing massively digitized media content. Today, a new evolution emerged -- the migration from 2D content to immersive perception. This rising trend has a profound and long-term impact to our society, fostering technologies such as teleconferencing and remote surgery. The trend is also reflected in the scientific research community, and more intention has been drawn to the light field and its applications.

     

    The purpose of this dissertation is to develop a better understanding of light field structure by analyzing its sampling behavior and to addresses three problems concerning the light field processing pipeline: 1) How to address the depth estimation problem when there is limited color and texture information. 2) How to improve the rendered image quality by using the inherent depth information. 3) How to solve the interdependence conflict of demosaicing and depth estimation.

     

    The first problem is solved by a hybrid depth estimation approach that combines advantages of correspondence matching and depth-from-focus, where occlusion is handled by involving multiple depth maps in a voting scheme. The second problem is divided into two specific tasks -- demosaicing and super-resolution, where depth-assisted light field analysis is employed to surpass the competence of traditional image processing. The third problem is tackled with an inferential graph model that encodes the connections between demosaicing and depth estimation explicitly, and jointly performs a global optimization for both tasks.

     

    The proposed depth estimation approach shows a noticeable improvement in point clouds and depth maps, compared with references methods. Furthermore, the objective metrics and visual quality are compared with classical sensor-based demosaicing and multi-image super-resolution to show the effectiveness of the proposed depth-assisted light field processing methods. Finally, a multi-task graph model is proposed to challenge the performance of the sequential light field image processing pipeline. The proposed method is validated with various kinds of light fields, and outperforms the state-of-the-art in both demosaicing and depth estimation tasks.

     

    The works presented in this dissertation raise a novel view of the light field data structure in general, and provide tools to solve image processing problems in specific. The impact of the outcome can be manifold: To support scientific research with light field microscopes, to stabilize the performance of range cameras for industrial applications, as well as to provide individuals with a high-quality immersive experience.

    Abstract [en]

    Light field technology, which emerged as a solution to the increasing demands of visually immersive experience, has shown its extraordinary potential for scene content representation and reconstruction. Unlike conventional photography that maps the 3D scenery onto a 2D plane by a projective transformation, light field preserves both the spatial and angular information, enabling further processing steps such as computational refocusing and image-based rendering. However, there are still gaps that have been barely studied, such as the light field demosaicing process. In this paper, we propose a depth-assisted demosaicing method for light field data. First, we exploit the sampling geometry of the light field data with respect to the scene content using the ray-tracing technique and develop a sampling model of light field capture. Then we carry out the demosaicing process in a layered object space with object-space sampling adjacencies rather than pixel placement. Finally, we compare our results with state-of-art approaches and discuss about the potential research directions of the proposed sampling model to show the significance of our approach.

    This essay describes the work to document and evaluate tools for front-end development at the company B3 Consulting Group. The methods that are evaluated is AMP-stack and JAM-stack. AMP-stack uses Apache, MySQL and PHP, Wordpress is used to build with that method. JAM-stack uses JavaScript, API and Markup, for that method GatsbyJS and Contentful is used. The evaluation is done both through user tests and how the methods are percived from a developer perspective. The project also includes work with customers at the company the project is done, Wordpress is used for those web pages.

    Abstract [en]

    The Domain Name System, DNS, is a fundamental part in the usability of the Internet, but its caching function is challenged by the increase of address size, number of addresses and automation. Meanwhile, there are limits in the memory capacity of certain devices at the Internet’s edge towards the Internet of Things. This study has taken a closer look at concurrent needs of DNS resolution and considered how DNS is affected by IPv6 address propagation, mobile devices, content delivery networks and web browser functions. The investigation has, in two freely available DNS resolver implementations, searched for the optimal cache memory management in constrained devices on, or at the border of, the Internet of Things. By means of open source access to the programs, Unbound and PowerDNS Recursor, each of their structures have been interpreted in order to approximate and compare memory requirements. Afterwards a laboratory simulation has been made using fictitious DNS data with real-world characteristics to measure the actual memory consumption at the server process. The simulation avoided individual adaption of program settings, involvement of DNSSEC data and imposing memory constraints on the test environment. The source code analysis estimated that Unbound handled A+AAAA records more optimally while PowerDNS Recursor was more efficient for PTR records. When using both record types as a whole the measurements in the simulation showed that Unbound was able to store DNS data more densely than PowerDNS Recursor. The result has shown that the standardized wireformat for DNS data used in Unbound is less optimal than the object-based of PowerDNS Recursor. On the other hand, the study showed that Unbound which was procedurally written in the C language was able to manage the cache more sparingly than the object- oriented PowerDNS Recursor which was developed in C++.

    Multi linguistic problems such as auto-categorization is not an easy task. It is possible to train different models for each language, another way to do auto-categorization is to build the model in one base language and use automatic translation from other languages to that base language. Different languages have a bias to a language specific grammar and syntax and will therefore pose problems to be expressed in other languages. Translating from one language into a non-verbal language could potentially have a positive impact of the categorization results. A non-verbal language could for example be pure information in form of a knowledge graph relation extraction from the text. In this article a comparison is conducted between Chinese and Swedish languages. Two categorization models are developed and validated on each dataset. The purpose is to make an auto-categorization model that works for n'importe quel langage. One model is built upon LSTM and optimized for Swedish and the other is an improved Bidirectional-LSTM Convolution model optimized for Chinese. The improved algorithm is trained on both languages and compared with the LSTM algorithm. The Bidirectional-LSTM algorithm performs approximately 20% units better than the LSTM algorithm, which is significant.

    Abstract [en]

     News companies have a need to automate and make the process of writing about popular and new events more effective. Current technologies involve robotic programs that fill in values in templates and website listeners that notify editors when changes are made so that the editor can read up on the source change on the actual website. Editors can provide news faster and better if directly provided with abstracts of the external sources and categorical meta-data that supports what the text is about. To make categorical meta-data a reality an auto-categorization model was created and optimized for Swedish articles written by local news journalists. The problem was that it was not scale-able enough to use out of the box. Instead of having this local model that could make good predictions of the text documents, the model is to be deployed in the cloud and an API interface is created. The API can be accessed from the tools where the articles is being written and therefore these services can automatically assign categories to the articles once the journalist is done writing it. To allow scale-ability to several thousands of simultaneously categorized articles and at the same time improving the workflow of deploying new models easier the API is uploaded to Sagemaker where several models are trained and once an improved model is found that model will be used in production in such a way that the system organically adapts to new written articles. An evaluation of Sagemaker API was done and it was concluded that the complexity of this solution was polynomial.

    The goal of this project has been to analyze the daily work process and use of tools when creating websites. By working with the company iComm studios I have been able to answer a number of questions. How the daily work process looks, what model one follows, how projects are completed and delivered and how much role the different tools play in the development of the projects. Because of the size of the company, I have also investigated how the company acquires new projects to work on, whether new or already existing customers request them. Most of the questions are answered by myself having participated as a regular web developer. For some other questions I have asked questions to appropriate employees. The report will also review the tools and possibly propose improvements. My own reflections will be based on how the future of web development may look.

    The objective for this study is to analyze tools that is used by the design- and web bureau Flatmate Creative Agency, FMCA for short. The study was carried out through an internship during ten weeks and with an interview. The tools that were analyzed were compared with alternatives to determine which tool is best suited for FMCA’s dev team. The study shows FMCA should stop using Trello and start using Jira to plan and keep track of their work. Jira is recomennded beacuse of their wish to be able to work more with git operations in their planning tool. The examination of communication tools shows that they should continue with Slack and not switch to Microsoft Teams. They are recommended to continue with Slack beacuse they currently use Google programs such as Google Drive and Google Calendar. They do not use any of the Office 365s products.

    Målet med denna undersökning har varit att bygga en enkel hemsida åt Skandinaviska Fin Art förening som är en privat förening. Sidan ska innehålla information om föreningen och deras aktiviteter som de sysslar med. Syftet med sidan är att fler ska känna till föreningen, kunna se vilka aktiviteter de har och kunna ta kontakt med föreningen. Föreningen startades med hjälp av studieförbundet NBV som har som syfte att få människors idéer och intresse att växa 22. Metoden som användes till att bygga hemsidan har börjat med en enkel skiss som jag kunnat visa för föreningen som ett förslag och när den accepterades då började kodningen. Programmeringsspråk som användes är Html, CSS, JavaScript, PHP och MySQL. Resultatet blev som det var tänkt från början förutom en sida för registrering som endast skulle skapas om tiden räckte till.

    The wireless edge is about distributing intelligence to wireless devices wherein the distribution of accurate time reference is essential for time-critical machine-type communication (cMTC). In 5G-based cMTC, enabling time synchronization in the wireless edge means moving beyond the current synchronization needs and solutions in 5G radio access. In this article, we analyze the device-level synchronization needs of potential cMTC applications: industrial automation, power distribution, vehicular communication, and live audio/video production. We present an overthe- air synchronization scheme comprising 5G air interface parameters and discuss their associated timing errors. We evaluate the estimation error in device-to-base-station propagation delay from timing advance under random errors and show how to reduce the estimation error. In the end, we identify the random errors specific to dense multipath fading environments and discuss countermeasures.

    In this paper, we study cross-layer optimization of low-power wireless links for reliability-aware applications while considering both the constraints and the non-ideal characteristics of the hardware in Internet-of-things (IoT) devices. Specifically, we define an energy consumption (EC) model that captures the energy cost—of transceiver circuitry, power amplifier, packet error statistics, packet overhead, etc.—in delivering a useful data bit. We derive the EC models for an ideal and two realistic non-linear power amplifier models. To incorporate packet error statistics, we develop a simple, in the form of elementary functions, and accurate closed-form packet error rate (PER) approximation in Rayleigh block-fading. Using the EC models, we derive energy optimal yet reliability and hardware compliant conditions for limiting unconstrained optimal signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and payload size. Together with these conditions, we develop a semi-analytic algorithm for resource-constrained IoT devices to jointly optimize parameters on physical (modulation size, SNR) and medium access control (payload size and the number of retransmissions) layers in relation to link distance. Our results show that despite reliability constraints, the common notion—higher-order M-ary modulations (MQAM) are energy optimal for short-range communication—prevails, and can provide up to 180% lifetime extension as compared to often used OQPSK modulation in IoT devices. However, the reliability constraints reduce both their range and the energy efficiency, while non-ideal traditional PA reduces the range further by 50% and diminishes the energy gains unless a better PA is used.

    Low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) technologies are gaining momentum for internet-of-things (IoT) applications since they promise wide coverage to a massive number of battery-operated devices using grant-free medium access. LoRaWAN, with its physical (PHY) layer design and regulatory efforts, has emerged as the widely adopted LPWAN solution. By using chirp spread spectrum modulation with qausi-orthogonal spreading factors (SFs), LoRa PHY offers coverage to wide-area applications while supporting high-density of devices. However, thus far its scalability performance has been inadequately modeled and the effect of interference resulting from the imperfect orthogonality of the SFs has not been considered. In this paper, we present an analytical model of a single-cell LoRa system that accounts for the impact of interference among transmissions over the same SF (co-SF) as well as different SFs (inter-SF). By modeling the interference field as Poisson point process under duty-cycled ALOHA, we derive the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) distributions for several interference conditions. Results show that, for a duty cycle as low as 0.33%, the network performance under co-SF interference alone is considerably optimistic as the inclusion of inter-SF interference unveils a further drop in the success probability and the coverage probability of approximately 10% and 15%, respectively for 1500 devices in a LoRa channel. Finally, we illustrate how our analysis can characterize the critical device density with respect to cell size for a given reliability target.

    Scene recognition is a hot research topic in the field of image recognition. It is necessary that we focus on the research on scene recognition, because it is helpful to the scene understanding topic, and can provide important contextual information for object recognition. The traditional approaches for scene recognition still have a lot of shortcomings. In these years, the deep learning method, which uses convolutional neural network, has got state-of-the-art results in this area. This thesis constructs a model based on multi-layer feature extraction of CNN and transfer learning for scene recognition tasks. Because scene images often contain multiple objects, there may be more useful local semantic information in the convolutional layers of the network, which may be lost in the full connected layers. Therefore, this paper improved the traditional architecture of CNN, adopted the existing improvement which enhanced the convolution layer information, and extracted it using Fisher Vector. Then this thesis introduced the idea of transfer learning, and tried to introduce the knowledge of two different fields, which are scene and object. We combined the output of these two networks to achieve better results. Finally, this thesis implemented the method using Python and PyTorch. This thesis applied the method to two famous scene datasets. the UIUC-Sports and Scene-15 datasets. Compared with traditional CNN AlexNet architecture, we improve the result from 81% to 93% in UIUC-Sports, and from 79% to 91% in Scene- 15. It shows that our method has good performance on scene recognition tasks.

    Today, the Internet of Things is widely used in various fields, such as factories, public facilities, and even homes. The use of the Internet of Things involves a large number of sensor devices that collect various types of data in real time, such as machine voltage, current, and temperature. These devices will generate a large amount of streaming sensor data. These data can be used to make the data analysis, which can discover hidden relation such as monitoring operating status of a machine, detecting anomalies and alerting the company in time to avoid significant losses. Therefore, the application of anomaly detection in the field of data mining is very extensive. This paper proposes an anomaly detection method based on multiple streaming sensor data and performs anomaly detection on three data sets which are from the real company. First, this project proposes the state transition detection algorithm, state classification algorithm, and the correlation analysis method based on frequency. Then two algorithms were implemented in Python, and then make the correlation analysis using the results from the system to find some possible meaningful relations which can be used in the anomaly detection. Finally, calculate the accuracy and time complexity of the system, and then evaluated its feasibility and scalability. From the evaluation result, it is concluded that the method

    Machine learning (ML) is an area of computer science that gives computers the ability to learn data patterns without prior programming for those patterns. Using neural networks in this area is based on simulating the biological functions of neurons in brains to learn patterns in data, giving computers a predictive ability to comprehend how data can be clustered. This research investigates the possibilities of using neural networks for classifying email, i.e. working as an email case manager. A Deep Neural Network (DNN) are multiple layers of neurons connected to each other by trainable weights. The main objective of this thesis was to evaluate how the three input arguments - data size, training time and neural network structure – affects the accuracy of Deep Neural Networks pattern recognition; also an evaluation of how the DNN performs compared to the statistical ML method, Naïve Bayes, in the form of prediction accuracy and complexity; and finally the viability of the resulting DNN as a case manager. Results show an improvement of accuracy on our networks with the increase of training time and data size respectively. By testing increasingly complex network structures (larger networks of neurons with more layers) it is observed that overfitting becomes a problem with increased training time, i.e. how accuracy decrease after a certain threshold of training time. Naïve Bayes classifiers performs worse than DNN in terms of accuracy, but better in reduced complexity; making NB viable on mobile platforms. We conclude that our developed prototype may work well in tangent with existing case management systems, tested by future research.

    Advanced Antenna System (AAS), the efficiency and performance of the Power Amplifier (PA) are of significant concern for designers and operators of the systems. The proposed solutions in this thesis work consist of the study of PA the used of the active load-pull modulation. As a result, signal components of each PA output are split into a MIMO

    (Multiple Input Multiple Output) configurations and then follow the development of an algorithm, to extract the transmitted and reflected signals from active load-pull modulation with different calibration procedures. The extracted data is used to develop a dual-input PA model to which is then applied later in the MIMO DPD (Digital Predistortion). The proposed analysis are tested in a lab and simulation environment. The load-pull measurement results could extract transmitted and reflected signals and they have been used to create the dual input PA model with NMSE of less than -42dB.

    Noise power estimation is central to efficient radio resource allocation in modern wireless communication systems. In the literature, there exist many noise power estimation methods that can be classified based on underlying theoretical principle; the most common are spectral averaging, eigenvalues of sample covariance matrix, information theory, and statistical signal analysis. However, how these estimation methods compare against each other in terms of accuracy, stability, and complexity is not well studied, and the focus instead remains on the enhancement of individual methods. In this paper, we adopt a common simulation methodology to perform a detailed performance evaluation of the prominent estimation techniques. The basis of our comparison is the signal-to-noise ratio estimation in the simulated industrial, scientific and medical band transmission, while the reference noise signal is acquired from an industrial production plant using a software-defined radio platform, USRP-2932. In addition, we analyze the impact of different techniques for noise-samples' separation on the estimation process. As a response to defects in the existing techniques, we propose a novel noise-samples' separation algorithm based on the adaptation of rank-order filtering. Our analysis shows that the proposed solution, apart from its low complexity, has a very good root-mean-squared error of 0.5 dB and smaller than 0.1-dB resolution, thus  achieving a performance comparable with the methods exploiting information theory concepts.

    Managing knowledge in an organization is always a challenge, the greater in an IT consulting company where the business idea is to offer special knowledge. In this study, it is examined how specialized expertise poses a risk to the business continuity and how IT consulting companies address any necessary organizational changes. It aims to produce a multidimensional survey of how IT consulting companies work with continuous supply of skills and answer the research question: Whether the IT consulting companies' dependence on specialist expertise poses a risk to the company's continuity? The study's results are based on interviews with people who have special expertise in a project, a questionnaire survey with all project members. The results show that the distributed work has an impact on the results, as well as previous studies show. However, impact can be minimized if all group members agree on how knowledge management will be conducted. The conclusion that this study provides is that IT consulting companies should, as a result of special expertise, be a driving force for the change processor. In this case, the ability to handle knowledge is ongoing in the project. This would lead to a stability where companies could become less dependent, even if it could not be removed. The contribution that this study gives to research is that companies and organizations should not focus on the problem of distributed forms of work without having a clear knowledge management model that is either formal or informal.

    A current field of research today is machine learning because it can simplify everyday life for human beings. A functioning system that has learned specific tasks can make it easier for companies in both cost and time. A company who want to use machine learning is SCA, who owns and manages forests to produce products. They have a need to automate forest classification. In order to evaluate forests, and to plan forestry measures, the proportion of leafy tree that is not used in production must be determined. Today, manual work is required of people who have to investigate aerial photos to classify the tree types. This study investigates whether it is possible, through machine learning, to teach a computer to determine whether it is leaf or not in photographs. A program is constructed with the library ImageAI which receives methods for training and predicting information in images. It examines how the choice of neural network and the number of images affects the safety of the models and how reliable the models can be. Exercise time and hardware are also two factors that are investigated. The result shows that the neural network ResNet delivers the safest results and the more images the computer exercises, the safer the result. The final model is a ResNet model that has trained on 20,000 images and has 79,0 percent security. Based on 50 samples, the mean value for safety is 90,5 percent and the median is 99,6 percent.

    According to narrative trends, digitalization has the potential todeconstruct both power structures and practices of exclusion insociety. What we argue here is that this deconstruction is not theresult of digitalization alone, it is dependent on how digitalizationis done. On the contrary, digitalization has often resulted inreproduction instead of transformation and deconstruction, i.e.digitalization tend to uphold practices instead of challengingthem. Being slightly more provocative, what becomes digitalizedis often what we can easily capture and understand. Similarly,when we open up for an increased participation in the creation ofdigital artifacts (sometimes expressed as demand-driven, citizencentered,or participatory development), those participating indigitalization are often already known; the use of alreadyestablished contact channels making them easy to reach andconnect with. Such logics raise questions about the intersectionsof norms and power and the potential transformative character ofdigitalization. The aim of this paper is to, through a theoreticalframework combining critical information systems, policyenactment and norm critical design, introduce a reflexive designmethod to gently provoke norms. We analyze the need tointervene in the everyday practices of digitalization. This is donein an empirical case study of the making of a regional digitalcultural heritage portal. The results indicate that digitalizationneeds norm critical interventions to change existing practices andprevent norm reproduction. Otherwise, as in this case of thedigitalization of cultural heritage, digitalization runs the risk ofstrengthening existing power structures and excluding practicesinstead of challenging them.

    According to narrative trends, digitalization has the potential to deconstruct existing power structures and increase participation and democracy in society; however, we will argue, it is unable to accomplish these changes on its own. Specifically, the deconstruction of existing structures cannot happen through digitalization alone; instead, these results depend on how digitalization is done. It is important to focus on understanding what happens in the digitalization process, what is transformed, as well as when it is done, and by whom. We will, therefore, combine a policy enactment framework with a critical analytical framework of digitalization to create a possibility to address the institutional power aspects of digitalization in a specific setting i.e., cultural heritage. We do this by analyzing how policy enactment, which is a way to understand policymaking as a process of organizational interpretations and translations by diverse policy actors, affects the construction of cultural heritage. The results show how digitalization easily becomes a process that is unable to question, it tends to engulf all other values, and cultural heritage is turned into meta-data, getting ‘clicks’ on the internet and attracting tourists to the region.

    Information security incidents are increasing both in number and in scope. In consequence, the General Data Protection Regulation and the Directive on security of network and information systems force organisations to report such incidents to a supervision authority. Due to the growing of both the importance of managing incidents and the tendency to outsourcing, this study focuses on IT-consulting firms and highlights their vulnerable position as subcontractors. This study thereby addresses the lack of empirical research on incident management and contributes valuable insights in IT-consulting firms’ experiences with information security incident management. Evidence from interviews and a survey with experts at IT-consulting firms focuses on challenges in managing information security incidents. The analyses identify and clarify both new and known challenges, such as how the recent regulations affect the role of an IT-consulting firm and how the absence of major incidents influences stakeholder awareness. Improvements of IT-consulting firm’s incident management process need to address internal and external communication, the information security awareness of employees and customers and the adequacy of the cost focus.

Then, together with these answers, I will follow the WCAG's regulations for standards for accessibility on the web to make a new requirement specification for a new website for Expressen. This new prototype will then be tested by the users with the same questionnaires and compared to Expressen's original website.

    How do European Union (EU) member states communicate risks to their citizens? In this study, we define risk communication as the information provided by different levels of government to citizens regarding possible future crises to which the general public might be subjected. We seek to answer the following questions: Are there any patterns in the risk communication strategies among EU member states in terms of the sender of information, the message conveyed, the method used, and the intended audience? Finally, to what extent is the state involved in ensuring the safety of its citizens? To tackle these questions, we examine the risk communication strategy of eight countries: Sweden, Finland, Germany, England, France, Estonia, Greece, and Cyprus. Our data consist of governmental web sites, publications, campaigns, and other modes of communication, such as videos posted on YouTube, with questions centering on institutional actors, methods of delivery, content, and effectiveness. We find that the institutional architecture of risk communication aligns with the broad administrative system of each member state. Countries tend to focus on risks that are specific to their context, with Sweden and, to a lesser extent, Germany having a special focus on consequences and providing guidelines to the public on how to survive for a certain period of time in the absence of the state. Especially in Sweden, though the state is a salient actor in risk communication through the dissemination of information at the agency level, the state retreats while urging the resilient citizen to take control of his or her own crisis management.

    This report has conducted a research of comparing a few open source search engines. The research contains two evaluation processes, the first evaluation will evaluate each open source search engine found on today’s market. Points will be given between one to five points depending on how well the open source search engine meets the requirements. The open source search engine with the highest score will then be chosen for implementation. The first evaluation resulted in Elasticsearch being the selected open source search engine and will continue to the implementation phase. The second evaluation will be measuring the system performance and the relevance of the SERP (Search Engine Results Pages). This phase will evaluate the system performance by taking time measurements on how long it takes for the search engines to deliver the SERP. The relevance of the search results will be judge by a group of CSN employers. The group will be giving point be-tween one to five points depending on the relevance of the SERP. It will eval-uate Elasticsearch with the search engine CSN are using today on their web-site (www.csn.se). This phase resulted in Elasticsearch being the better in performance measurements but not in the relevance of the SERP. This was discussed and came to the conclusion that most points were lost because of the first search result Elasticsearch delivered. If this search result was re-moved Elasticsearch could deliver as good results as the old search engine. The survey came to the conclusion that Elasticsearch is recommended for CSN if certain problem areas could be corrected before implementation into their systems.

    Abstract [en]

    In recent years, the implementation of wireless communication systems in industrial environments has significantly increased. As a result, new applications such as Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) have arisen, reshaping the future of industrial automation. Industrial environments, however, pose a demanding challenge for the implementation of wireless communication systems. IIoT applications have very stringent Quality of Service (QoS) requirements, in particular regarding energy consumption, timeliness, and reliability; and failing to fulfill the requirements could result in costly and dangerous system faults. Ranging from short to long range, the wide set of possible application cases within IIoT is based on different wireless technologies designed to excel in a certain scenario. A common aspect of these applications is the presence of energy-limited devices, and as a result, the development of low power technologies is becoming increasingly more important.

    In this thesis, three specific low power wireless technologies are analyzed: Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Bluetooth Mesh, and LoRa. These three protocols target short, mid and long-range communication, respectively, thus providing the opportunity of exploring a wider set of application cases. The overall purpose of this thesis is to contribute to an extensive and well-rounded understanding of how these three technologies perform in terms of the scalability, reliability, and transmission delay. In particular, the aim is to determine their suitability for IIoT and to identify the key elements within their functional schemes that can be optimized to achieve improved performance.

    The first part of the thesis explores the potential of BLE meeting real-time demands found in the domain of short-range IIoT. In order to evaluate the suitability of the protocol for these scenarios, we present an analytical model of the delay performance of BLE for connection-oriented configurations. We studied the effect of possible adaptations in the retransmission scheme on reliability and timeliness performance. Different retransmission schemes are evaluated and simulation results proved that by optimally modifying the BLE retransmission model, a maximum delay below 46 ms and a packet loss rate in the order of 10−5can be obtained. Therefore, BLE proved to be capable of fulfilling the requirements of even the most demanding cases within the considered range of applications.

    The second part of the thesis evaluates the QoS performance and limitations of the recently released Bluetooth Mesh protocol through extensive simulations. We analyzed the impact of choosing different configurations of the protocol parameters on the end-to-end scalability, reliability and delay performance. In particular, we focused on the configuration of the Advertising Events and Scanning Events timing, including the ScanInterval and TinterPDU . Results revealed that the TinterPDU has to be chosen accordingly with the scanInterval and that it significantly impacts the end-to-end delay and reliability. Due to the flooding approach, larger TinterPDU resulted in a higher end-to-end packet loss rate. We demonstrated that, by introducing randomization in the time parameters, the reliability and delay performance can be greatly improved. It was also shown that the achievable average delay is relatively low, of around 250ms over 10 hops under the worst simulated network conditions. However, we observed that scalability is especially challenging for Bluetooth Mesh since it is particularly vulnerable to broadcast storm, hindering the communication reliability for denser deployments.

    The third part of the thesis focuses on Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWANs), in which LoRaWAN, with its physical (PHY) layer design and regulatory efforts, has emerged as a widely adopted solution. By using chirp spread spectrum modulation with quasi-orthogonal spreading factors (SFs), LoRa PHY offers coverage to wide-area applications while supporting a high density of devices. We present an analytical model of a single-cell LoRa system that accounts for the impact of interference among transmissions over the same SF (co-SF) as well as different SFs(inter-SF). The latter is a result of the imperfect orthogonality of the SFs. By modeling the interference field as a Poisson point process under duty-cycled ALOHA, we derived the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) distributions for several interference conditions. Results indicate that, for a duty cycle as low as 0.33%, the network performance under co-SF interference alone is considerably optimistic, as the inclusion of inter-SF interference unveils a further drop in the success probability and the coverage probability of approximately 10% and 15%. In conclusion, we illustrate how our analysis can characterize the critical device density with respect to cell size for agiven reliability target.

    This article evaluates the quality-of-service performance and scalability of the recently released Bluetooth Mesh protocol and provides general guidelines on its use and configuration. Through extensive simulations, we analyzed the impact of the configuration of all the different protocol's parameters on the end-to-end reliability, delay, and scalability. In particular, we focused on the structure of the packet broadcast process, which takes place in time intervals known as \textit{Advertising Events} and \textit{Scanning Events}. Results indicate a high degree of interdependence among all the different timing parameters involved in both the scanning and the advertising processes and show that the correct operation of the protocol greatly depends on the compatibility between their configurations. We also demonstrated that introducing randomization in these timing parameters, as well as varying the duration of the \textit{Advertising Events}, reduces the drawbacks of the flooding propagation mechanism implemented by the protocol. Using data collected from a real office environment, we also studied the behavior of the protocol in the presence of WLAN interference. It was shown that Bluetooth Mesh is vulnerable to external interference, even when implementing the standardized limitation of using only 3 out of the 40 Bluetooth Low Energy frequency channels. We observed that the achievable average delay is relatively low, of around 250~ms for over 10 hops under the worst simulated network conditions. However, results proved that scalability is especially challenging for Bluetooth Mesh since it is prone to broadcast storm, hindering the communication reliability for denser deployments.

    This project is about modifying a web store for one of Wikinggruppen’s customers to be able to sell hunting cards based on area and date in addition to common store functionality. The store owner will be able to handle everything dynamically via the store’s administration tools. They will upload so-called shape-files with coordinates and information for areas and also be able to link these to their products and easily update information and number of places per date. A map is shown at the product page using OpenLayers, where areas are shown from a geoJson-file. Hunting cards can be purchased for one or more days or as an annual card, as well as for one or more hunters. When ordering, SMS and e-mail are sent to both the buyer and the area’s contact person. After completed purchases, statistics of sold cards are available in the store’s administration tools.

    In urban planning, decision makers often need to take a variety of aspects into account, including stakeholder attitudes. The purpose of this paper is to compare how decision makers and the public assess different criteria in an urban planning project. The study was carried out through interviews and a survey about an urban planning project. By compiling data using multi-attribute utility theory, it was possible to reveal similarities and differences between the decision makers and the public. The findings reveal that the perceived value of the project differed greatly between these two perspectives: The public’s opinion was closer to a status quo perspective, while the decision makers were more optimistic about the project. While some of the differences can partly be explained by uncertainty about the project and the criteria, the results reveal the importance of including thepublic in an early stage of these initiatives. Furthermore, the multi-attribute utility approach is a useful tool for compiling assessments, but additional data is needed for gaining further understanding of stakeholder preferences. Therefore, a mixed-methods approach to collecting stakeholder preferences is suggested.

    The aim of this study has been to answer the question whether it is possible to obtain notifications that work with the user, instead of against, which can be experienced as stressful and bothersome. To decrease the stressful notifications an application was created which acted as a notification control. The application used machine learning to predict when the user wanted to receive their notifications. For an artificial intelligence to work there needs to be a pattern recognition. In this case the pattern recognition that was used is called the association rule analysis. The association rule analysis used a tree called fp-growth. After the application was made, a usability test was made before and after the installation of the application. The usability test was testing if the user experienced stress and how the application worked. The study showed that screen time decreased by one hour and the number of times the mobile was opened was also reduced. This survey requires more data as it may be that the user was not affected by the application but only randomly used the mobile phone less.

    Detta projekts huvudsakliga syfte är att skapa ett frågespel där användare samtidigt kan spela mot andra genom att använda en mobil applikation. Den som startar en spelomgång får välja vilken kategori av frågor som ska ställas och ger därefter ut erhållen kod till vänner som i sin tur kan ansluta till spelet. Därefter exekveras spelomgång varpå resultat erhålls och vinnare utses. Teknisk lösning för detta projekt använder Unity3D för presentation av spelet på de mobila enheterna vilka sedan kommunicerar med en server som exekverar på plattform utvecklad med Microsoft .NET Core och SQL Server. För att administrera de kategorier och frågor som spelarna ställs inför används ASP.NET MVC på samma plattform.

    Quality assurance is becoming increasingly important to implement in expanding development projects. The components being built must be tested regularly to ensure the functionality of the whole product. Leeroy applies scrum as a development method along with manual GUI tests that only are performed when all components belonging to each sprint are completed. This leads to shortage in time for a tester to apply the assigned test scenarios. Testers are therefore subjected to stress in their work as testing requires high accuracy and speed in order to effectively ensure that the components end up in a production environment. The purpose of this study is to streamline current test processes by replacing manual GUI tests with automated GUI regression tests using BDD principles. Specification of the requirements was carried out using data collection methods that were chosen for this study. The specifications were used both to evaluate the construction as well as the results obtained. The results show that it is important that both the tester and the rest of the agile team cooperate during each sprint, as the components are developed incrementally and tested regularly. The results show even the importance of prioritizing the test scenarios; this is done to ensure the efficiency of the workflow by first choosing the most important components to test. The tested aspects in this study have also proven that both frameworks Cucumber and Puppeteer have the potential to contribute to a smooth implementation of BDD in an agile development team. This is due partly to the reasonable results from the performance tests that measured the speed of feedbacks as an efficiency test, partly to a high degree of both usability and reusability. This study is limited to few test scenarios due to shortage of time given for this course and therefore the performance results doesn’t express all kind of testing scenarios.

    Small cell networks (SCNs) offer a cost-effective coverage solution to wireless applications demanding high data rates. However in SCNs, a challenging problem is the proper management of backhaul links to small cell base stations(SCBSs). To make a good backhaul link, perfect line-of-sight (LoS) communication between the SCBSs and the core network plays a vital role. In this study, we use the idea of employing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to provide connectivity betweenSCBSs and the core network. We focus on the association of SCBSs with UAVs by considering multiple communication-related factors including data rate limit and available bandwidth resources of the backhaul. In particular, we address the optimum placement of UAVs to serve a maximum number of SCBSswhile considering available resources using the unsupervised k-means algorithm. Numerical results show that the proposed approach outperforms the conventional approach in terms of associatedSCBSs, bandwidth consumption, available link utilization, and sum-rate maximization.

    Facebook is today the biggest ads platform in the world. This makes it strategi- cally smart for companies to run their ads on the platform. To follow up the result from these ads is an important part for the companies to know if the target audience is the right one. The purpose with this thesis was to investigate if it’s possible for the company Leeroy to develope their own system that follow up ad conversion for Facebook ads. But also investigate how to implement Facebook’s own system and if other systems could be used. From this two purposes a number of goals have been set, which all could be answered. A pilot study resulted in the gathering of information if an own solution could be implemented. The result of this pilot study results in the answer no, an own solution could not be implemented at this state. Through the pilot study a recommended solution could be presented where Facebook’s system is the recommended way to go. This result is based on a system comparison between Facebook and Google Firebase. This recommended solution has resulted in a implementation guide that Leeroy can use to implement Facebook SDK in their application portfolio based on React Native.

    Företag arbetar idag ständigt för att förbättra sina processer för att tillexempel öka kundtillfredsställelsen eller konkurrenskraften. För att uppnå detta så är ständig utveckling och effektivitet två huvudprinciper. Många företag jobbar med att minska kostnaden för sina logistikkostnader. Att minska kostnaderna för logistiken skapar konkurrensfördelar. Syftet med denna studie är att tydliggöra flödet för två utvalda produkter hos ett tillverkande företag för att sedan minimera transportkostnaden för produkterna. Minimeringen av transportkostnaden utförs med utgångspunkt i Lean Productions värdeflödeskartläggning. Med nuläget kartlagt så kartläggs sedan önskvärda framtida lägen. När nuläget och framtida lägen är kartlagda används Data Envelopment Analysis för att beräkna den relativa effektiviteten av de givna lägena. Riskanalys utförs på de framtida lägena för att kunna uppskatta om den ökade effektiviteten blir värd den arbetsinsats som förändringen ger – en viktig grundsten vid logistikförändringar. Studien visar också på hur mycket olika variationer i inputdatat kan ge på resultatet. Idag anses flödet för produkt 1 inte kunna effektiviseras genom att förändra lastbärare medan produkt 2 anses kunna förbättras från en relativ effektivitet på 92% till 97% när lägena jämförs mot ett idealt läge.
