    Abstract [en]

    The percentage of older adults increases globally with an increased need for medical care. To support the idea of successful active aging, e-health seems to be an interesting concept. This study was conducted as a systematic literature study, with the aim to identify and discuss determinant factors in the Human computer interaction of eHealth for older adults. The important main research question to answer was: What are the critical challenges to address for an improved human computer interaction in technology enhanced health care systems for older adults? Findings show that there are several critical factors to consider, with trust, personal integrity, technological acceptance, e-health literacy and accessibility of ICT as the most determinant. If the found challenges are addressed, it might be possible to achieve the identified aim of independent living. The recommendation is a human computer interaction that is elderly centred, and involves the elderly users in the design process. However, no ICT enhanced system will be user-friendly enough to take away the need for social and technological support.

    Abstract [en]

    Many companies face the fact that the work must be adapted to the globalization so competitiveness can be maintained. One way to do it is to work geographically distributed and reach competence personnel and more customers while 24/7-work becomes possible. But to effectively work distributed over space and time, a consciousness about the limitations that this entails and how to overcome them are necessary. Sandvik IT is facing changes and the trend is toward more geographically distributed teams. The purpose of this study was therefore focused on the key factors for distributed work and how Kanban can contribute to effective distributed work. How Sandvik IT's supporting group, Service Development Office (SDO) should support the distributed work has also been evaluated. The basic theory is a compilation of literary works such as books and above all scientific articles. From the theory four key areas of distributed work was identified; working methods and coordination, communication, leadership and team spirit. A fifth point was also added, which was about the teamstart. Based on these five areas the interview - and survey questions was formed. SDO selected three teams with informants, and the team leaders/coordinators were interviewed and other staff received the survey. The results were then compared with the initial theory and via analysis 16 key factors for distributed work (at Sandvik IT) could be found. E.g. leader's consciousness, a well-established work method, shared knowledge and social interaction. The factors were also categorized into: Set-up, teams start and finally maintenance and development. To a large extent the key factors and the needs could be met by Kanban, but the recommendation is that SDO complements with (in particular) an education for team leaders/coordinators. It came to be seen as a prerequisite for the distributed work. The survey's response rate and the interviews outcome were good and the result was coherent. Hence the report can be seen as a report with high validity and reliability in an inter-organizational view.

    Syftet med arbetet var att analysera marknaden för att sedan ta fram ett konstruktionsunderlag för en lastanordning i en likbil för företaget Ortman Specialanpassningar. Konceptet skall innefatta en konstruktion med bland annat funktionalitetskrav som skall underlätta förflyttning och förvaring av en kista i en likbil. Projektet inleddes med en idé tillsammans med en förstudie som sedan gick över till en designprocess som är en utvecklingsprocess som ger användaren flera olika metoder under flera faser. Projektet gick igenom flera olika stadie där projektet planerades, kontexten utforskades, koncept utformning och till slut gick över till ett konstruktionsunderlags-stadie. Därefter analyserades konstruktionsunderlaget och simulerades genom en belastningsanalys med hjälp av SolidWorks. Material valdes, där dessa val baserades på projektets kravspecifikation. Slutligen renderades konstruktionsunderlaget i programmet KeyShot.

    Globaliseringen ökar konkurrensen och kvalitetskraven vilket innebär att sågverk i dag prioriterar effektviseringsarbete högre än någonsin. Eftersom råvarukostnaden är 70 procent av ett sågverks totala kostnader är hur väl ett sågverk utnyttjar råvaran avgörande för ett sågverkets lönsamhet. För att förbättra sågutbytet strävar sågverk mot att förbättra sin timmerosorteringens träffbild, vilket medför att sorterings-parametrar ofta korrigeras. Till följd av ständiga förändringar i timmersorteringen är arbetssättet för detta sannolikt viktigt. Studien har utförts vid Bollsta sågverk i syfte att undersöka sågverkets möjlighet att arbeta mer effektivt med sin timmersortering genom att utveckla nuvarande arbetssätt och förutsättningar. Studien har genomförts i två steg, en kvalitativ del för utveckling av arbetssätt och en experimentell utvecklingsdel för utveckling av processtöd. Studien har visat en god potential för Bollsta sågverk att utveckla sitt arbetssätt vid nyskapande av timmerklasser samt dess kontrollmöjligheter. Processutvecklingen har visat sig fordra utveckling av ett beslutsstödssystem med förbättrad möjlighet till simulering och visualisering av sortering. Simuleringsfunktionen har visats vara 25 gånger mer effektivt än nuvarande simuleringsprogram. Beslutsstödssystemet har utvecklats och en utvärdering mot principer för användbara gränssnitt har visat att beslutstödet är användbart. Det utvecklade arbetssättet och beslutstödet har medfört ett antal kostnadsbesparingar i form av förkortad ledtid, förbättrad konkurrenskraft och förbättrad kontroll. Kostnadsbesparingens storlek har visats vara svår att approximera men utvecklingen har sannolikt miljonpotential. I dag finns endast presenterad forskning inom sorteringsparametrar och tekniskt utnyttjande. Potentialen i ett utvecklat arbetssätt och ett nytt beslutstöd indikerar dock bristen av forskning inom andra områden i timmersortering.

    An increased use of blended learning environments in higher education has been an emerging trend in the 21st century. Sometimes the definition of blended learning has been so broad that it makes it hard to find any learning environment in higher education that would not be included. Many research studies have been reporting the pros and cons of blended learning from the university perspective and the learner perspective. There are less studies on the teacher view of blended learning environments. This study had the aim to explore, analyse and discuss teachers' perceived problems and barriers to a successful implementation of blended learning at university level.

    The used research strategy was a qualitative cross-sectional study where data has been collected with semi-structured interviews. Six teachers that all are subject matter experts and instructional designers for courses on computer science were interviewed. In a computer assisted thematic analysis found codes and keywords was grouped together to create themes.

    Four themes or problematic areas were found, and that they combined could give an explanation to what teachers experience as problems when implementing blended learning environments. First theme is documentation and support, where teachers find the scarcity of documentation in their virtual learning environment a problem for implementing extension modules. Second theme is introduction and training, where teachers find it problematic that they rarely get a proper introduction or further training on the use of tools and modules. Third theme is the time aspect, teachers suffer from the lack of time to implement blended learning thoroughly in their courses.  Last found theme is didactics, where teachers do not feel that they have the required knowledge or skills to apply the appropriate instructional design for blended learning environments.

    A novel Human Head Surrogate was obtained from available MRI scans of a 50th percentile male human head. Addictive manufacturing was used to produce the skull, the brain and the skin. All original MRI geometries were partially smoothed and adjusted to provide the best biofidelity compatible with printing and molding technology. The skull was 3D-printed in ABS and ten pressure sensors were placed into it. The brain surrogate was cast from silicon rubber in the 3d-printed plastic molds. Nine tri-axial accelerometers (placed at the tops of the lobes, at the sides of the lobes, in the cerebellum and in the center of mass) and a three-axis gyroscope (at the center of mass) were inserted into the silicon brain during casting. The cranium, after assembly with brain, was filled with silicon oil mimicking the cerebral fluid. Silicon rubber was cast in additional 3d-printed molds to form the skin surrounding the cranium. The skull base was adapted to be compatible with the Hybrid-III neck and allow the exit of brain sensors cabling. Preliminary experiments were carried out proving the functionality of the surrogate. Results showed how multiple accelerometers and pressure sensors allowed a better comprehension of the head complex motion during impacts.

    Human factors are of high importance in 3D visualization, but subjective evaluation of 3D displays is not easy because of a high variability among users. This study aimed to evaluate and compare two different 3D visualization systems (a market stereoscopic display, and a state-of-the-art multi-view display) in terms of task performance and quality of experience (QoE), in the context of interactive visualization. An adapted methodology has been designed in order to focus on 3D differences and to reduce the influence of all other factors. 36 subjects took part in an experiment during which they were asked to solve different tasks in a synthetic 3D scene. After the experiment, they were asked to judge the quality of their experience, according to specific features. Results showed that scene understanding and precision was significantly better on the multi-view display. Concerning the quality of experience, visual comfort was judged significantly better on the multi-view display and visual fatigue was reported by 52% of the subjects on the stereoscopic display. This study has permitted to identify some factors influencing QoE such as prior experience and stereopsis threshold.

    New display technologies enable the usage of 3D-visualization in a medical context. Even though user performance seems to be enhanced with respect to 2D thanks to the addition of recreated depth cues, human factors, and more particularly visual comfort and visual fatigue can still be a bridle to the widespread use of these systems. This study aimed at evaluating and comparing two different 3D visualization systems (a market stereoscopic display, and a state-of-the-art multi-view display) in terms of quality of experience (QoE), in the context of interactive medical visualization. An adapted methodology was designed in order to subjectively evaluate the experience of users. 14 medical doctors and 15 medical students took part in the experiment. After solving different tasks using the 3D reconstruction of a phantom object, they were asked to judge their quality of the experience, according to specific features. They were also asked to give their opinion about the influence of 3D-systems on their work conditions. Results suggest that medical doctors are opened to 3D-visualization techniques and are confident concerning their beneficial influence on their work. However, visual comfort and visual fatigue are still an issue of 3D-displays. Results obtained with the multi-view display suggest that the use of continuous horizontal parallax might be the future response to these current limitations.

    In studies of 2D visual attention, eye-tracking data show a so-called “center-bias”, which means that fixations are biased towards the center of 2D still images. However, in stereoscopic visual attention, depth is another feature having great influence on guiding eye movements. Relatively little is known about the impact of depth. Several studies mentioned that people tend to look at the objects at certain depth planes. Therefore, it is reasonable to suppose the existence of a “depth-bias”. But studies proving or quantifying this depth-bias are still limited. We conducted a binocular eye-tracking experiment by showing synthetic stimuli on a stereoscopic display. Observers were required to do a free-viewing task through active shutter glasses. Gaze positions of both eyes were recorded for obtaining the depth of fixation. Stimuli were well designed in order to let the center-bias and depth-bias affect eye movements individually. Results showed that the number of fixations varied as a function of depth planes. There was also a relationship between the duration of fixation and the depth plane where the objects were located.

    Our society has undergone significant changes as new techniques came into our lives. Many areas of today’s society have digitalized in very short period and even healthcare sector is not exception. The County Council (Landstinget) provides an IT- system or e- service (MVK), which allows patients to book/ cancel appointments, renew prescriptions, order Patient Medical Records and much more. E- service was created just over 10 years ago. The service is aimed to all citizens, regardless of Computer- and Internet experience, gender and age. Since not all citizens are experienced in usage of IT, such system should be as easier and as user friendly as possible.

    This work is aimed to find weaknesses in MVK and find suggestions for improvement based on usability principles. Methods used in this work the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods.

    Therefore, I evaluated the service MVK, by implementing a number of usability tests.

    Test persons in this work were both men and women of different ages and different Computer- and Internet experiences. Test persons got a number of simple tasks, in which I felt we might find some faults.

    The most difficult of all was to find MVK on lg.se website. But it was not easy either to find Help on MVK. The best service of all available on MVK is to cancel/ reschedule the appointment and renew- prescription function.

    By using Time- on- task, I observed that inexperienced computer and internet users take longer time to perform certain tasks, compared with the expert and with other test takers. And that is right for them we should improve the system so that it would be easy for them to use it.

    In this work I could identify suggestions to improve the e- service, and could give suggestions to future research. Future research may be a reassessment of just a group of inexperienced users of different ages. We can also examine how the graphic design looks like and how it is to navigate on MVK. Or we can also re- evaluate e- service after the planned updates of MVK that would be carried out in a month, according to MVK developers.
