    Abstract [en]

    Interpretation and assimilation of data structures, organized information andsource code files are frequently occuring during software development. This kindof information is stored in text-based form and its understanding requires greatthoroughness and investment in time from the developer's part. This thesisdescribes the development of a utility program prototype, which automates theparsing of XML data and source code files from the programming languages Cand C++, in purpose of trying to simplify the interpretation process. The programcreates and presents a visual graph of the structure found, using an algorithmwhich can present arbitrary large XML files as well as a limited number ofconcurrent source code files. The effects on the interpretation time and itsreliablity has been evaluated in a survey among software development students.The result showed a certain increase in the number of correct conclusions fromthe participants' side after studying the visual representation compared to itsorignial text-based form. The amount of time used was not measured other thansubjectively by the users themselves, of which a predominant proportionconsidered a reduction in needed time when using the graphical representation.The thesis shows that the use of this or an equivalent utility can enhance theassimilation of data structures by increasing the rate of reliabilty whilesimultaneously decreasing the needed amount of time. Still, the quantifyable gainsof these results remains statistically largely uncertain.

    Abstract [en]

    One of the challenges for a successful use of wireless sensor networks in process industries is to design networks with energy efficient transmission, to increase the lifetime of the deployed network while maintaining the required latency and bit-error rate. The design of such transmission schemes depend on the radio channel characteristics of the region. This paper presents an investigation of the statistical properties of the radio channel in a typical process industry, particularly when the network is meant to be deployed for a long time duration, e.g., days, weeks, and even months. Using 17–20-h-long extensive measurement campaigns in a rolling mill and a paper mill, we highlight the non-stationarity in the environment and quantify the ability of various distributions, given in the literature, to describe the variations on the links. Finally, we analyze the design of an optimal received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the deployed nodes and show that improper selection of the distribution for modeling of the variations in the channel can lead to an overuse of energy by a factor of four or even higher.

    Abstract [en]

    The communication of the intangible benefits to different stakeholders is important at the development for organizational resource and could be described as a boundary-spanning activity. In this study we build on Ahlin’s model (2014) and illustrates categorization of intangible benefits of digital information by using Carlile’s (2002; 2004) efficient boundary objects, the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic. Qualitative empirical pictures from three cases are illustrated by questions, derived from the efficient boundary objects.     A semiotic perspective on semantics interoperability2012Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    While information technology enables us to access more material than ever before, we need to come to grips with the disagreeable fact that data is not information. Sharing data without safeguarding comprehension may lead to confusion at best and disaster at worst. The issue at hand is one of ensuring semantic interoperability between actors from disparate contexts. Research into this problem is plentiful, but typically focused around specific subject matters, limiting its appeal to a limited range of scholars and practitioners. Based upon a literary study, we identify two extreme approaches to managing semantic interoperability. These are denoted top-down and bottom-up. We illustrate real world instances of these approaches using the TFI-model based on a case study encompassing two organizations. Our theoretical model is found to be a viable lens through which to generalize and interpret issues pertaining to semantic interoperability between human actors. We therefore see a need for further research into human-based on semantic interoperability.

    Abstract [en]

    History shows that those companies that continue to invest in their innovative capabilities during tough economic times are often those that prosper when growth returns. Recently, information systems (IS) have been harnessed to support innovation. Even with IS support, innovation campaigns and suggestion management systems often end up in failure. Employees and customers are reluctant to share their best ideas. Individuals interests, motivation, creativity and life-long learning are seldom adequately supported by companies. In the information systems research area there is very little research on creativity and creativity has traditionally been studied mainly within the decision support systems (DSS) research area. This DSS area has focused on rather mechanistic idea-generation processes lacking a focus on individuals and their creativity. Even in the emerging open innovation paradigm, individual and group levels have come in for little research. From these starting points, we became interested in ways to improve existing information systems and innovation practices. The research question here is: How to design an artefact to support learning and creativity within the open innovation paradigm. Since we are interested in building new artefacts, we will utilise design research methods, particularly the Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM) process model. Our three artefacts are the results of our work. The first artefact, the Mobile Personal Development Plan, is focused on extending development talks between an employer and employees within human resource management to support innovation. Curiosity and emerging interests are seen here as idea seeds and future competences. The second artefact, the iPortfolio, extends this with a life-long learning and problem-solving focus. The third artefact, the Brokering Platform for Open Innovation, finally focuses on collaboration with customers and crowds. The software development was time consuming in our work and only the first artefact is demonstrated as a functional software prototype. Our pilot in an SME company illustrates practical requirements and usability issues related to the software. Additionally, a Delphi study with international open innovation experts served to identify future related requirements. Given the lack of creativity research in the IS field, we claim that our work makes an appropriate contribution. To the design research literature our input is new usage cases of the previously mentioned DSRM process model. Our results apply to organisations, where the employees work in dispersed teams and need an information system to communicate their emerging ideas and interests for more systematic problem-solving. The managers in our study reported that there are plenty of ideas available, but the challenge is to ensure the commitment of external resources to the actual innovation building. The integration of learning into the innovation and problem-solving activity should be motivational. We therefore discuss human resource management in relation to creativity and innovation. Surprisingly, in our pilots we noticed difficulties in time management in mobile settings and the current health risk debate gradually changed our artefact design, so this work also provides a critical view on mobility and on the access anytime, anywhere phenomenon. Finally, we suggest improvements to existing innovation practices in organisations.

    Abstract [en]

    Applications that can change their behaviour based on the user’s contextual appearance are called context-aware applications. Applications developed for smart phones, which carry a multitude of different sensors, and actuators have gained a huge penetration within the market. Frequent usage of mobile applications such as home automation, friend finder, car accident notification and tracking etc; have seen an increased growth from the user’s perspective. However, for such applications, it is necessary to have knowledge of the performance and cost parameters, which directly affect the QoE of the application users.  This thesis investigates possible context aware behaviours in real time situations and measures the Quality of Experience (QoE) as well as identifying the Packet Delay Variation (PDV). The background and some state-of-the-art technologies are studied, and based on these studies, three scenarios are designed and implemented and based on their QoE, results and conclusions are presented, with the  results obtained  shown by means of   graphical representations of the QoE and PDV values.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper presents a research study of wireless LAN access points for IEEE 802.11b, where we seek to model the access point as a queuing system. The model can be used to compare performance metrics of different wireless LAN access points and to investigate the QoS of specific applications in the presence of a wireless LAN access point. In this paper, we focus on two parameters: the delay introduced by a wireless LAN access point and the average service time required to serve a packet passing through an access point. A major result is an analytic solution for the average service time of a packet in relationship to payload.

    Abstract [en]

    Since the approval of the IEEE 802.11b by the IEEE in 1999, the demand for WLAN equipment and networks has been growing quickly. We present a queuing model of wireless LAN (WLAN) access points (APs) for IEEE 802.11b. We use experimentation to obtain the characteristic parameters of our analytic model. The model can be used to compare the performance of different WLAN APs as well as the QoS of different applications in the presence of an AP. We focus on the delay introduced by an AP. The major observations are that the delay to serve a packet going from the WLAN medium to the wired medium (on the uplink) is less than the delay to serve a packet, with identical payload, but travelling from the wired medium to the WLAN medium (on the downlink). A key result is an analytic solution showing that the average service time of a packet is a strictly increasing function of payload.

    Målet med detta projekt har varit att ta fram en responsiv webbplats åt Husveterinären

    AB. Kraven på webbplatsen var bland annat att den skulle skapas i

    WordPress, möjliggöra för kunder att ta del av uppdateringar från veterinärens

    Facebook samt innehålla ett bokningssystem. Projektet genomfördes enligt metoden

    mobile first vilket innebär att man utgår ifrån en liten skärm när man designar

    för att sedan skala upp storleken. Media queries och en flexibel layout

    baserad på relativa enheter har använts för den responsiva designen. För att utvärdera

    webbplatsens användbarhet har användartester genomförts. Resultatet

    är en webbplats som kan användas i enheter med stora såväl som med små skärmar.

    Användartesterna visade på att det var lätt att navigera mellan webbsidorna

    samt att använda både bokningssystemet och kontaktformuläret oavsett skärmstorlek.

    Med WordPress är det dessutom möjligt för veterinären att själv underhålla

    sin webbplats utan att behöva ha kunskaper om att skriva kod.

    Abstract [en]

    Lately, various programming frameworks has been developed for developing web applications. These frameworks focus on increasing the user experience by performance improvements such as faster render times and response times. One of these frameworks are React, which has introduced a completely new architectural pattern for both managing the state and data flow of an application. React also offers support for native application development and makes server-side rendering possible. Something that is difficult to accomplish with an application developed with Angular 1.5, which is used by the company Dewire today. The aim of this thesis was to compare React with an existing Angular project, in order to determine whether React could be a potential replacement for Angular. To gain knowledge about the subject, a theoretical study of web- based sources has been made. While the practical part has been to rebuild a web application with React together with the architecture Flux, which is based on a view from the Angular project. The implementation process was repeated until the view was completed and a desired data flow, as in the Angular application, was reached. The resulting React application was later compared with the Angular application developed by the company, where the outcome of the comparison showed that the React performed better than Angular in all tests. In conclusion, due to the timeframe of the project, only the most important parts of the Angular project were implemented in order to carry out the measurements that were of interest to the company. By recreating most of the functionality, or the entire Angular application, more interesting comparisons could have been done.

    Abstract [en]

    Google Analytics is the most widely used web traffic analytics program in the world with a wide array of functionality which serve several different purposes for its users. However the cost of training employees in the usage of Google Analytics can be expensive and time consuming due to the generality of the software. The purpose of this thesis is to explore an alternative solution to hav- ing employees learn the default Google Analytics interface and thus possibly re- ducing training expenses. A prototype written in the Java programming lan- guage is developed which implements the MVC and facade software patterns for the purpose of making the development process more efficient. It contains a feature for retrieving custom reports from Google Analytics using Google’s Core Reporting API in addition to two web pages are integrated into the proto- type using the Google Embed API. In the result the prototype is used along with the software estimation method COCOMO to make an estimation of the amount of effort required to develop a similar program. This is done by counting the prototype’s source lines of code manually, following the guidelines given by the COCOMO manual, and then implementing the result in the COCOMO estima- tion formula. The count of lines of code for the entire prototype is 567 and the count which considers reused code is 466. The value retrieved from the formula is 1.61±0.14 person months for the estimation of the entire program and 1.31± 0.16 for a program with reused code. The conclusion of the thesis is that the res- ult from the estimation has several weaknesses and further research is necessary in order to improve the accuracy of the result.

    To work together in virtual teams has increasingly become a natural change

    in how organizations work. Due to demands from the environment,

    organizations have had to transform from traditional ways of working to

    becoming more flexible and adaptive. The aim of this article is to identify

    obstacles, problems, and presumptions in order to enable the virtual team to

    be successful. A project — The TIC-project — is described, and results from

    a study concerning collaboration and networking among companies within

    Technical Communication are presented. Results show that, to a great

    extent, experiences from networking are lacking. Furthermore, trust must be

    embedded in the teams, meaning that personal meetings must precede

    virtual meetings. Most interviewees declared a wish to collaborate despite

    being competitors. Finally, questions and topics for further research are

    presented.

    A conceptual schema can be viewed as a language to describe the phenomena in a system to be modelled, i.e. a set of derivation rules and integrity constraints as well as a set of event-rules describing the behaviour of an object system. In this paper, we investigate the relationship between the Lyee software requirements concepts with various constructs in conceptual modelling. Within our work we choose the Unified Modelling Language (UML) as a modelling notation for explaining conceptual models. The result obtained models a fully expressive set of UML and First Order Logic constructs mapped into Lyee concepts.

    Abstract [en]

    The Information Systems research group at Mid Sweden University is the result of four separate groups, spread across three disciplines, artificially thrown together because we didn’t seem to fit into other developed research groups. What we were seen to have in common was ‘information’. The disciplines are: Archives and Information Science, Business Management and Organization, and Informatics.

    Shortly after this uncertain start, the University launched a demanding internal process for Assessment of Research and Coproduction (ARC13) over the previous five years. We didn’t have that much past together, so we set out to build ourselves a future, exploring our common interests as we gathered data for the evaluation. We pooled our research, hired a facilitator to help with a SWOT analysis, built trust within the group and achieved a remarkably good report from the external assessors. Participation in the multidisciplinary InterPARES Trust in Digital Records in an Increasingly Networked World Project has been an inspiring factor in the Archives and Information Science contribution to our new collaboration. Our Information Systems research group now focuses on five research challenges: Information value, quality, accessibility, sustainability and trustworthiness.  Now we are having fun exploring the possibilities, confident that our InfoSys research group has its own sustainable future.

    Legislation is important to recordkeeping strategies and requirements, since it determines which records are needed for legally legitimate actions. Yet the concepts of a document, a record, a case, a transaction, etc., are frequently defined differently in various laws even within national boundaries and are urgently in need of harmonization to minimize complications and barriers to e-business transactions.

    Every country has its own legislation system which has been adjusted over time in correlation to national context and its surrounding society (Duranti, 1989-1990, p. 5). Duranti and Goh (2012) provided sound arguments as to why it is important to ensure national archival legislation keeps pace with our digitally networked society with its increasingly blurred borders. In addition to their own national law, members of the European Union (EU) are obliged to follow EU-legislation requirements. There are three types of EU legislation: regulations, directives and decisions. A regulation is applicable in all EU countries. Directives are general rules. A decision is a stipulation of issues of concern for specifically mentioned persons or organizations (European Commission, 2013).  Recommendations and statements are not binding, but may, for example, be used by the EU as support in interpretation of EU-legislation (Sveriges Riksdag, 2013). Hence, within public organizations, there is a close relation between records, recordkeeping processes, legislation and accountability.  Yet research in Sweden has shown that 24/7 e-service web-interfaces serving e-government strategies and ambitions are sometimes developed without consulting recordkeeping professionals, in ignorance of legal requirements for capture of records and that preservation issues are rarely considered when acquiring new digital systems (Kallberg, Svärd and Sundberg, 2010). Several other European studies also identify a lack of recordkeeping awareness within public organizations (Barata, 2004; Valtonen, 2007; Shepherd, Stevenson, & Flinn, 2009; Riksarkivet, 2010). However, there is currently a strong European political ambition to implement eGovernment services, which aims to promote cross-border business development. On the other hand, this challenges archival thinking to meet business, technological and legal requirements stipulated for each country. Varying legal definitions used can cause major problems for transactions both within a country and across national borders, even in something as seemingly simple as exchanging e-invoices. This paper will discuss an approach to identifying a way forward for harmonizing legislation that contains recordkeeping requirements across the EU.

    • Identifying the range of / types of laws within countries and EU that define a record
    • Using the ICA multilingual terminology database, to check and add to definitions already found there
    • Checking against definitions found in international standards.

    Research towards harmonizing these crucial definitions will be very challenging, given linguistic and cultural differences but the ICA multilingual terminology database is a potential vehicle for checking existing usage, adding to the definitions and quotations from legalislation and the literature already found there and adding new terms. The foundation version of the ICA-funded Terminology Database, developed as an ICA Section for Archival Educators’ project led and hosted by the University of British Columbia, contains definitions with examples of usage for an initial 300 archival terms across 16 languages. It is planned for public release in the first half of 2013.

    Australian archival authorities take a very active role in setting records management standards, providing guidelines for records managers in their work and approving records retention and disposal schedules for state and national government agencies. Thus ‘archivists’ in Australia have a very strong role in records management processes. There are two principal drivers for this approach: one is the practical matter of capturing and managing digital records, and the other is the acceptance of the Records continuum theoretical model. This paper  outlines some specific approaches taken to identifying and managing archival records in Australian government systems and how this affects the structure of the recordkeeping professions and professional education.

    The Swedish Government has established the eGovernment Delegation agency to identify and support excellence in e-government implementation strategies. This agency has commenced working with the National Archives, to ensure that archival requirements are addressed when developing new e-services. However, the prevailing view of archives is a traditional curatorial approach, which focuses on capturing the end product once actions have been completed. In the digital environment, the prevailing archival practice frameworks are not adequate to the task of capturing the full digital context and process that is essential for a complete record. Previously, when paper records were aggregated on a physical file, the full record of processes was more likely to be captured and managed for the long term.

    Results from two empirical case studies will be used to present and illustrate the risks and problems generated by an approach where the records are not identified and captured until late in the business process. In this paper the term post hoc approach to records capture is used to describe the method whereby an attempt is made to capture records, including the necessary metadata, after they are created, without prior planning or system design. One of the Swedish eGovernment Delegation’s aims is to motivate public agencies to reach level four on Layne and Lee’s e-government maturity model, that is, full integration of interaction between agencies and citizens. However, the model does not incorporate any recordkeeping requirements in its maturity benchmarks. It is clear these kinds of e-services are so complex that late intervention by archivists will not be adequate for needed recordkeeping support and long-term preservation. So it is essential that guidance on archival preservation of integrated e-services is made available as soon as possible, particularly as current trends in government indicate that e-services will be outsourced to private providers.

    Strategies are proposed for including recordkeeping re- quirements in e-service models. Advantageously, this can be done using existing benchmarking tools such as GARP, ISO 15489, ISO 30301 and the ICA Principles and Functional Requirements for Records In Electronic Office Environments.

    Open data through the archive: A new role for archivists2014Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The role of the archivist in exploiting and accessing open data as public records in an open government environment is explored.  The possible role, responsibilities and mandate of an archivist in this new public sector context are examined. Necessary knowledge, skills and competence are identified. 

    Content:

    Expectations of a more proactive release of public records and technical developments that support new ways of publishing and reusing digital information, for example as open data on the internet, create new challenges and change the way public records are managed and made accessible to citizens, which will also involve new professions in the management of records. Fundamentally this raises questions of how, in this new management environment, the trustworthiness of the records could be maintained and how the archives and records management profession could contribute to this, related to other professionals involved in these processes.

    In Sweden there is a long tradition of openness and citizens´ right to access public records. But with the implementation of e-government follows a new perception of what openness means and “open government” is a concept that seems to go further and be more proactive. A part of this study will be to analyze and define what is meant by ‘open government’ and ‘open data’ as they are used in Sweden, i.e. how ‘open data’ differs from ‘public records’ for example. In Sweden there is no formal records manager profession, but the archivist often does the corresponding work. That is why this project also includes the archivists´ role in the open government environment.

    This study will reflect upon the archivists´ role in this process and what is needed to ensure a trusted proactive release of public records. To identify what skills, guidelines, knowledge and mandate are needed. The study will focus on StockholmCity’s work on open data, which is an important part of the open government agenda, through the perspective of Stockholm City Archives.

    Scientific contribution:

    Case study methods are used to examine the role of the archivist in the domain of access to public records in an open government and open data environment. The study examines what role an archivist in the public sector currently has, and what knowledge, skills and competence are needed for these new challenges.

    Interpretation of existing work and the perception of the situation by practicing archivists in this changing environment provide valuable data. The case study is based on the City of Stockholm because it is quite progressive in its work on open data. It is now running an open data project, in which the Stockholm City Archive plays an active role. The role of the archivist in practice, experiences and possible needs and missing factors will be explored. Data will be collected by interviews and text analysis. Needed strategies and guidelines will be identified.

    Detta är den första publikationen i skriftserien Arkiv- och informationsvetenskap vid Mittuniversitetet producerad av Centrum för digital informationsförvaltning (CEDIF) vid Avdelningen för Arkiv- och Datavetenskap (ADV), Mittuniversitetet. Rapporten redovisar delar av det projektarbete som genomförts under namnet GoInfo (God Informationsförvaltning), under åren 2012-2015 med medel från Länsstyrelsen Västernorrland, Mittuniversitetet, Härnösands kommun och Riksarkivet Härnösand. Skriftserien är inspirerad av den tidigare rapportserien Arkiv-och informationsvetenskap vid Mitthögskolan, som utkom med sex nummer åren 1999-2000. I förordet till det första numret skrev redaktör Torbjörn Kjölstad “Det är vår förhoppning att rapportserien skall kunna förmedla en del av arkiv- och informationsvetenskapliga verksamheten vid Mitthögskolan. Vi har naturligtvis en strävan att presentera nya resultat inom detta mycket breda forskningsområde men också – och väl så viktigt – nya problemställningar och metodiska experiment”1. Vårt mål med den aktuella serien är densamma som i den tidigare: att dela med oss och sprida resultaten av vår forskning och kunskap.Ämnet arkivkunskap och dokumenthantering startade läsåret 1988/89 som en grundkurs vid Högskolan i Sundsvall/Härnösand, som senare blev Mitthögskolan. 1997 bedömde Högskoleverket att det uppfyllde kraven för magisterutbildning och magisterexamen och samma år ändrades benämningen till arkiv- och informationsvetenskap och år 2005 blev Mitthögskolan fullvärdigt universitet - Mittuniversitetet. Sedan universitet har fått ett allt större fokus på forskning så har också vårt ämne försökt att etablera en mer uttalad forskningsplattform. Det första större projekt ”Framtidens Arkiv” kom också att utgöra startskott för en rekrytering av en professur som tillsattes 2008. I Framtidens Arkiv rekryterades också ett par doktorander Erik Borglund och Lena-Maria Öberg som i anslutning till det projektet och via projekt som Bygga Villa och SMEdoc också disputerade.2 I slutet av 2009 beviljades medel till projekt CEDIF, som fick stöd av EU Europeiska regionala utvecklingsfond, Länsstyrelsen Västernorrland, Mittuniversitetet, Härnösands kommun och Sundsvalls kommun 2009-2012. Projektet syftade till att utveckla modeller för effektiv och långsiktig förvaltning av information inom framför allt offentlig sektor men även privat näringsliv. Inom detta projekt rekryterades doktorander Maria Kallberg och Proscovia Svärd. Maria Kallberg avslutade i december 2013 sin forskarutbildning inom GoInfo med avhandlingen ’The Emperor’s New Clothes’ - Recordkeeping in a New Context3, och samtidigt vinnare av Bureanska priset vid Mittuniversitetet. 2009 doktorerade Anneli Sundqvist med avhandlingen Search Processes, User Behaviour and Archival Representational Systems4.När detta skrivs är totalt tre doktorander aktiva vid avdelningen. Inom GoInfo har Ann-Sofie Klareld varit aktiv som doktorand. Ämnet arkiv- och informationsvetenskap har växt och mognat sedan starten 1988-1989. Utbildningen på grund- och masternivå har utökats med utbildning på forskarnivå och ett forskningsprogram.Sidorna som följer innehåller summeringar och reflektioner från GoInfo. Först ut är projektledaren Göran Samuelsson, som inleder med en övergripande beskrivning. Kapitlen som följer speglar GoInfos delprojekt och forskningsresultat. Ann-Sofie Klareld har skrivit om Arkivets roll inom e-förvaltningen. Sedan får vi insikter från Ann-Sofie Klareld och Annalena Olsson, (Riksarkivet i Härnösand) om Arkivmyndighetens roll i samarbets- och utvecklingsprojekt, utifrån Riksarkivets deltagande i flera projekt, inte minst e-ARD5, sponsrat av e-Delegationen. Karen Anderson och Göran Samuelsson presenterar i kapitlet Omvärldsanalys och teoretiska utgångspunkter de influenser som påverkat vår forskning, som bland annat haft en bas i den modell för informationsförsörjning som utvecklats av Göran Samuelsson. Kapitlet innehåller även några preliminära tankar om hur vi kan använda modellen i anslutning till de mer teoretiska modeller som används inom arkivvetenskap och praktik som; livscykelmodellen, Records Continuum modellen och OAIS-modellen. I kapitlet Myndighetsnätverket och GoInfo, rapporterar Ann-Sofie Klareld om hennes aktionsforskning och utmaningen att balansera rollen som forskare med förväntningar på verksamhetsutveckling. De följande tre kapitlen presentera mer konkreta forskning- och utvecklings ansatser i den kommunala miljön med ett stort fokus på GoInfos samverkans partner Härnösands kommun. Göran Samuelsson och Stefan Berggren ger ett Förslag till modell för strategiarbete för god informationsförvaltning, med användning av några av standarderna kring verksamhetsinformation bland annat ISO/SS 30300 och Riksarkivets RA FS 2009:16.Maria Kallberg skriver om Centraliserad diariefunktion, ett projekt som hon initierade i sin roll som kommunarkivarie i Härnösands kommun och sedan fortsatte att utforska som en del av sitt doktorandprojekt. Stefan Berggren, nuvarande kommunarkivarie i Härnösands kommun, och Göran Samuelsson beskriver sedan arbetet med hantera kommunens lönedata och hur man integrerar den nuvarande digitala hanteringen med äldre pappersbaserade informationen i kapitlet Lönedatafångst. I detta arbete har man försökt att praktiskt tillämpa de framtagna de förvaltningsgemensamma specifikationer för personalsystem (FGS Personal), som togs fram under e-ARD projektet.     As organizations transform towards e-service provision and operations sophisticated, organization-wide approaches to information management are required. However, there is reason to believe that few organizations have developed a fully holistic approach to thinking about developing and managing their information assets to ensure their current and future accessibility and usability. There is an increasing awareness of the need to design systems that ensure information is accessible and re-usable, yet vital information often becomes increasingly inaccessible over time, to the disadvantage of business intelligence, business needs, customer service and regulatory requirements. An extensive survey of the state of the art of information management within Swedish organizations was undertaken to gain an understanding of current approaches, what competence is currently available within organizations and what competencies are perceived to be lacking or need development to ensure sustainable management of information as a business asset. This paper presents insights into how well or poorly records managers’ and archivists’ expertise is incorporated into whole- of-organization strategic planning for information management. It was rare to find collaboration between enterprise information architects and IT professionals with the recordkeeping professionals, who have expertise in structuring information and metadata as well as system requirements that contribute to ensuring long-term preservation, which would potentially minimize the proliferation of legacy systems from which records and information are very costly or impossible to migrate or extract. Many archivists considered that it is not their role to participate in wider information management strategies, preferring to focus on the capture of records into an ’e-archive’ without recognizing that information in the archive is a potentially re-usable business asset. This initial research contributes to an understanding of information cultures within organizations. It is intended to be used as a benchmark: follow-up studies are planned at regular intervals in the future to measure change in practice, attitudes and professional alliances to improve information management.

    As more and more people choose to learn programming it may be good to practicesolving problems by writing functions that can then be tested to see if theuser has succeeded. Function Practice is a service to be able to practice programmingin exactly this way, by solving tasks of writing functions in differentprogramming languages, the languages that will be used is Java, C ++ andPython. It also provides an easy and convenient way to create such tasks. Theaim of the project is to develop this service by creating a Web service that cancompile and run functions for the different languages, a website that users canwrite and test code, as well as a way to define the tasks to be solved, this is thentested with a user test in a smaller group to see how user-friendly it is, and thefunctionality is tested and compared with some previous solutions. The serviceis tested to see if additional security is needed by trying to run commands onthe host system. The conclusion of the project is that the functionality behindthe service works, however, that the website needs to be a little clearer for it tobe more user-friendly, and that the user should be able to get error messages incase something does not work to make it easier to know what they need to do.Security proves to be an important part when it is possible to execute commandson the host system which gives users full control of the system.

    Abstract [en]

    An anticipatory system is a system containing a predictive model of itself and/or of its environment, which allows the system to predict its future state. Such a system would be of great use for decision makers in water regulation. Our work has resulted in a prototype of an anticipatory simulation tool that functions as a decision support system for water regulation. The simulation tool simulates a simple water regulation system. First a model of a simple water regulation system was constructed. Based on that model the simulation tool was developed and improved by adding weak anticipation. Simulations with and without weak anticipation were run with real data. Evaluations of the simulations show an improved performance of the simulation tool when using weak anticipation compared to simulations without weak anticipation.

    The evolution of depth‐perception visualization technologies, emerging format standardization work and research within the field of multi‐view 3D video and imagery addresses the need for flexible 3D video visualization. The wide variety of available 3D‐display types and visualization techniques for multi‐view video, as well as the high throughput requirements for high definition video, addresses the need for a real‐time 3D video playback solution that takes advantage of hardware accelerated graphics, while providing a high degree of flexibility through format configuration and cross‐platform interoperability. A modular component based software solution based on FFmpeg for video demultiplexing and video decoding is proposed,using OpenGL and GLUT for hardware accelerated graphics and POSIX threads for increased CPU utilization. The solution has been verified to have sufficient throughput in order to display 1080p video at the native video frame rate on the experimental system, which is considered as a standard high‐end desktop PC only using commercial hardware. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed solution a number of throughput evaluation metrics have been introduced measuring average frame rate as a function of: video bit rate, video resolution and number of views. The results obtained have indicated that the GPU constitutes the primary bottleneck in a multi‐view lenticular rendering system and that multi‐view rendering performance is degraded as the number of views is increased. This is a result of the current GPU square matrix texture cache architectures, resulting in texture lookup access times according to random memory access patterns when the number of views is high. The proposed solution has been identified in order to provide low CPU efficiency, i.e. low CPU hardware utilization and it is recommended to increase performance by investigating the gains of scalable multithreading techniques. It is also recommended to investigate the gains of introducing video frame buffering in video memory or to move more calculations to the CPU in order to increase GPU performance.

    Radio access technologies for cellular mobile networks are continuously being evolved to meet the future demands for higher data rates, and lower end‐to‐end delays. In the research and development of LTE, radio network simulations play an essential role. The evolution of parallel processing hardware makes it desirable to exploit the potential gains of parallelizing LTE radio network simulations using multithreading techniques in contrast to distributing experiments over processors as independent simulation job processes. There is a hypothesis that parallel speedup gain diminishes when running many parallel simulation jobs concurrently on the same machine due to the increased memory requirements. A proposed multithreaded prototype of the Ericsson LTE simulator has been constructed, encapsulating scheduling, execution and synchronization of asynchronous physical layer computations. In order to provide implementation transparency, an algorithm has been proposed to sort and synchronize log events enabling a sequential logging model on top of non‐deterministic execution. In order to evaluate and compare multithreading techniques to parallel simulation job distribution, a large number of experiments have been carried out for four very diverse simulation scenarios. The evaluation of the results from these experiments involved analysis of average measured execution times and comparison with ideal estimates derived from Amdahl’s law in order to analyze overhead. It has been shown that the proposed multithreaded task‐oriented framework provides a convenient way to execute LTE physical layer models asynchronously on multi‐core processors, still providing deterministic results that are equivalent to the results of a sequential simulator. However, it has been indicated that distributing parallel independent jobs over processors is currently more efficient than multithreading techniques, even though the achieved speedup is far from ideal. This conclusion is based on the observation that the overhead caused by increased memory requirements, memory access and system bus congestion is currently smaller than the thread management and synchronization overhead of the proposed multithreaded Java prototype.

    When it became clear that the number of ipv4 addresses would not be enough, ipv6 was developed. With new features that had been adapted to the infrastructure that had been built up around the world, there was now a replacement for ipv4. But the differences are many and the protocols are not alike at all, especially when looking at the built-in functions. One of these new features in ipv6 is called Prefix Delegation, a simple and convenient way to automatically distribute parts of a larger network into smaller networks. Although there are simple and flexible way to implement this, the existing infrastructure of the Internet may not be so simple. The complexity of the infrastructure forces us to use a variety of routes, both static and dynamic. To get an understanding of how this can differ, we looked at an overview of how the infrastructure might look like and then tested how to solve the addressing through an automated process and a static process. The results shows that the automated solution requires a little more preparation and specified equipment, but the work then becomes easy to control, debug, and document. The static process is more straightforward and requires no special equipment, however, it will be difficult to control, debug, and document where the slightest change can require a lot of work where the risk of complications is great.

    Abstract [en]

    Mid Sweden University is currently researching how to capture more of a scene with a camera and how to create 3D images that does not require extra equipment for the viewer. In the process of this research they have started looking into simulating some of the tests that they wish to conduct. The goal of this project is to research whether the 3D graphics engine Unity3D could be used to simulate these tests, and to what degree. To test this a simulation was designed and implemented. The simulation used a split display system where each camera is directly connected to a part of the screen and using the position of the viewer the correct part of the camera feed is shown. Some literary studies were also done into how current 3D technology works. The simulation was successfully implemented and shows that simple simulation can be done in Unity3D, however, some problems were encountered in the process. The conclusion of the project show that there is much work left before simulation is viable but that there is potential in the technology and that the research team should continue to investigate it.

    The goal for this project is to setup a redundant Software Defined Network for a fictive company. The company should be able to use the network for future network extension. The network will be built in mininet. Mininet is a software that is used to simulate a real network environment. The company should also be able to take the simulated network in mininet and implement it in to a real network. The protocols STP and LACP are implemented in the network by means of the programming language python.

    The great strides made towards "information society" are a fact beyond contradiction. Many academic, research and governmental institutions have exploited Information and Communications Technologies in order to perform everyday tasks and activities and have therefore developed information management systems. This has led many public and governmental organisations to adopt these new technologies as a means of internal evolvement and restructuring and to provide more qualitative services to their citizens. This work describes how the Greek Educational Books Publishing Organisation (GEBPO) employed its electronic system for book production and distribution.

    Examensarbetet beskriver utvecklingen av säkerhetsapplikationen BeSafe vilken utvecklats för IT-konsulttjänsteverksamheten Sogeti. BeSafe kommer i framtiden integreras med två andra applikationer för att tillsammans bilda en större friluftsapplikation.

    Den färdiga applikationen besvarar de verifierbara målen och därmed även problemformuleringen. Applikationen erbjuder användaren möjlighet att stärka den egna säkerheten. Muntliga intervjuer genomfördes för att bestämma design, färger och logotyp för applikationen. Intervjuerna resulterade i en användarvänligare applikation där undersökningen riktade in arbetet mot det gränssnitt BeSafe nu har. BeSafe är utvecklad genom en iterativ process i utvecklingsmiljön Android Studios och riktar sig till enheter baserade på Androids OS. Vidareutveckling av applikationen skulle kunna ske i form av nya funktioner där användaren exempelvis kan tillåta anhöriga få live feedback på vart användaren befinner sig. Det har tagits hänsyn till etiska aspekter under arbetets gång för att värna om användarens integritet. Detta genom notifikationer, minimering av risk för spridning av data genom lagrings- och kommunikationssätt inom applikationen.

    Detta projektet har inneburit att skapa en prototyp av en webbapplikation som man förhoppningsvis kommer att kunna använda i framtiden som en grund till att skapa en mer helomfattande applikationen. Projektet handlar om att skapa ett rapportsystem som tillåter företag att få en bättre koll på statusen av sina uppdrag, sina kunder och anställda. Samtidigt som att den tillåter anställda att rapportera in när uppdrag är klara. Då detta är tänkt som en prototyp av en del för en större lösning så har avgränsningar blivit tvungna att göras. Under projektet så har användbarhet, mängd av internet förbrukning och tillgänglighet tagits i aktning under utvecklandet.

    Information technology in combination with changes in organizational structures and forms for work has led to an increasing amount of information and also to totally new forms of information and records creation. Furthermore the e-government services, where the whole idea is to exchange information electronically, will speed up this development. A 10-year period is a long time when it comes to preserving electronic records. This is of course due to the rapid technological development, for example the problems with obsolete software and file formats. However, since archives are records of permanent and enduring value, it is essential that methods must be developed to ensure that digital records can be preserved for much longer time. Archival practice has for a long time been intertwined with information technology, dealing with the production, organization, storage, dissemination, and retrieval of records, using the technology at hand. This implies that the responsibility for research and development should lie upon researchers from both domains in collaboration. In this paper some problem domains of long-term preservation and how ongoing research matches these domains is presented. It seems clear that although much of the challenges associated with digital preservation is strategic, organizational, and structural and not only technical, the research concentrates at solving the technical issues.

    Information technology has led to that much of the information that earlier was produced on pa-per is now being produced in electronic form. The e-government services, where the whole idea is to exchange information electronically, will radically redirect paperbound information towards electronically generated and managed information and documents. Earlier on long-term preserva-tion was all about paper-bound documents containing content, context and format as well as the legal issues concerning the document, such as signatures and stamps. Although paper-bound documents still are of frequent use, the degree of digital information rapidly increases. Digital information is often compiled from different databases, where content, context, format and signa-tures can be separated and put together differently. The challenges associated with digital preser-vation are strategic, organizational and structural as well as technological. The aim of this paper is to present some challenges associated with digital preservation.

    To work against threats and to obtain new possibilities, new forms of inter-organizational collaborations are formed. Established models of organizational control are insufficient to cope with the management of such complex situations. In inter-organizations there is also a need to foresee and act upon future events. The management literature deals mainly with one single organization although aspects of collaborative processes are discussed. The human challenges of virtual team membership are: Creating effective team leadership; Managing conflict and global virtual teams dynamics; Developing trust and relationships; Understanding cross-cultural differences; Developing intercultural communication competence. Organizational learning is recommended as a tool to in the first place develop an intercultural communication competence, but also as a complement to learn more about each other. To develop organizational learning within an organization has shown to be successful. The question is how to transfer the concept to inter-organizations. The viability of an inter-organization is depending on the ability to work as a team, learn from each other and adapt to new situations. In this paper problems and possibilities with inter-organizational management and organizational learning are discussed.

The conclusion is that some approaches that are successful in single organizations and seem to be promising for inter-organizations need to be further explored, like Warfield�s laws of complexity, systemic models for management and organizational learning.
