Abstract [en]

Abstract [en]

This article is about globalization, neoliberalism and cultural resistancewith focus on Machi, spiritual authority holder of ancient knowledge and wisdom, who since immemorial times safeguards the spiritual practice, healing powers andculture. In Chile, in the Mapuche territory and in the areas of cultural resistance, conflicts increase so that the spiritual authorities perceive the danger of physicaland cultural extinction. In the context of conflict and as a result of the penetrationof transnational corporations in indigenous territories, the shaman, in his role as acommunity political agent, operates as symbolic geography architect counteringthe neoliberal social engineering. We are witnessing a re-articulation of the sociospiritualcommunity in which the Machi plays a new role in the defense of MotherEarth (Ñuke Mapu).
