Abstract [en]

The economic growth in the Swedish economy is more than ever dependant on small andmiddle sized enterprises that combined make up 99,9% of the total amount of Swedishcompanies and represent 60% of economic activity and number employed in Swedishbusinesses. Service companies creates the majority of the economic activity on the Swedishmarket, thus research concerning growth and profitability in these companies are valuable. Inthis study small and middle-sized advertising agencies are examined, these companiescontributes to other companies success through marketing campaigns. Advertising agenciesoperate in a sector historically affected greatly by new technical advances that have changedthe way of working through new media channels. This advancement happens rapidly and thecompanies always need to improve and renew themselves in order to remain competitive.Previous studies have focused on the importance of intellectual capital in these companies,while the importance of financial factors have yet not been greatly examined.The purpose with this study was to examine to what extent the selected financial factorscontributes to the advertising companies success and what other factors may influence thesuccess of these companies. The study was conducted quantitatively through statistic analysison 1813 Swedish advertising agencies. The result shows that growth is positively correlatedwith size and profitability, but is negatively affected by equity ratio and liquidity. Profitabilityis affected positively by size and equity ratio, and negatively affected by liquidity, although inthe regression analysis that relationship proved to be non significant. Age had no significantrelationship with neither growth nor profitability.
