Electronic Government, or e-Government, is on the agenda both in research and in practice and the research field is rather broad. Several researchers are involved in a range of different research projects in differnet topics in the area and are genereting an increasing amount of research literature. This paper examines research concerned with e-Government in order to define deficiencies, shortcomings and directions for future research. Current research in the area mainly focuses at the national level and the local level is in short supply. Consequently, proposals for future research concern e-Government at the local level.
