Abstract [en]

In today's polarized society it has become more important

to position yourself either to the right or the left politicallt.

As a result more new upcoming news sites are considering

themselves as alternative media. But if you only follow

alternative media, how much new information do you

really get? What information is lost based on how the

alternative media chooses to portray various news events?

In this qualitative study about alternative media objectivity

and independence regarding the coverage of scandals. The

purpose has been to investigate how alternative media's

coverage of scandals differs depending on which political

party that acted scandalously. We have used two theoretical

frameworks to answer the purpose and those are framing

and scandal as a mediated event. The method we have used

is a critical discourse analysis where we have analysed a

total of 24 articles from the alternative media`s Bulletin

and Dagens ETC.

The result showed that the coverage of news events doesn't

differ a lot and that they often rewrite articles from

traditional news media. Dagens ETC is often more

consistent than Bulletin in the way they frame

unregardining which political party they are covering.

Bulletin is often more defending against a political party

that is closer to their own political party than Dagens Etc.

Lastly we have seen that Bulletin publishes more news

articles than Dagens ETC regarding scandals made by a

political party with a different political ideology.
