Denna studie syftar till att fördjupa kunskapen om hur enskilda arkivinstitutioner resonerar kring proaktivt arbete riktat mot enskilda arkivbildare av personarkiv och hur de värderar sådana arkiv. För att undersöka dessa frågor genomfördes en kvalitativ fallstudie vid tre enskilda arkivinstitutioner. Data samlades in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med arkivarier i chefsposition och analyserades med hjälp av kontinuummodellen och makrovärdering, samt kontextualiserades genom ett fiktivt dokument – ett CV (Curriculum Vitae). 

Resultaten visar att det finns en positiv inställning till proaktivt arbete med arkivbildare av personarkiv. Arkivbildarna får råd om de tre första dimensionerna i kontinuummodellen (create, capture och organize), vilket förbättrar förutsättningarna för långsiktig tillgänglighet och bevarande av informationen. Dessa råd omfattar rekommendationer om filformat, namngivning och mappstruktur. Tre faktorer identifierades som signifikanta vid värderingen av personarkiv: individens betydelse, finansieringsmöjligheter och arkivbeståndets teknologiska skick. 

Fallstudiens slutsats tyder att ett proaktivt arbete inte bara bidrar till bevarande och tillgängliggörande, utan kan även underlätta värderingsprocessen.

This study aims to deepen the understanding of how private archival institutions in Sweden approach proactive work directed towards individual creators of personal archives and how they appraise such archives. To investigate these questions, a qualitative case study was conducted at three private archival institutions. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with archivists in managerial positions and analyzed using the Records Continuum Model and macro-appraisal, and the analysis is contextualized through a fictitious document – a CV (Curriculum Vitae).

The results show that there is a positive attitude towards proactive work with creators of personal archives. Archive creators receive advice on the first three dimensions of the continuum model (create, capture, and organize), which improves the conditions for long-term accessibility and preservation of information. These recommendations include advice on file formats, naming conventions, and folder structure. Three factors were identified as significant in the appraisal of personal archives: the importance of the individual, funding opportunities, and the technological condition of the archival material.

The case study concludes that proactive work not only contributes to preservation and accessibility but can also facilitate the appraisal process.
