Abstract [en]

This study investigated the attitudes of IT managementtowards the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for informalupskilling. The purpose of the study was to explore andunderstand the views of IT management on the use of AI topromote informal learning and upskilling. By examiningmanagement attitudes, we aimed to map insights into thepotential of AI, to contribute to organizational learning anddevelopment, as well as to identify possible future prospectsand challenges with its implementation. While previous research has predominantly focused on therole of AI in the formal education sector, this studyhighlights the less explored area of AI tools' potential in thecorporate world to promote lifelong learning andprofessional growth. The study had Technology AcceptanceModel 3 (TAM3) as a theoretical framework and carried outa deductive data collection through a workshop and semistructured interviews. The data analysis was carried outinductively through thematic analyses, to possibly discoverthemes that are not included in the theoretical framework. The results show that IT management generally have apositive attitude towards AI tools for informal upskilling.Key themes identified include technological curiosity, demonstrated effectiveness, organizational support, andinformation security. Despite the positive attitude, therewere also concerns about data security, ethics, andtransparency. These factors should be considered whenimplementing AI to ensure its acceptance and effectiveness. The study further suggests that TAM3 may need to beupdated to include these aspects, alternatively that acompletely new theoretical framework needs to bedeveloped to investigate acceptance and attitude towards AItools.
