Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka om och i så fall hur en lärarledd podcast kan stötta individers studentblivande i början av sin utbildning. Studien genomfördes med designforskning som metodisk ansats begränsad till en iterationscykel, med utgångspunkt i ett praktiskt problem vid det beteendevetenskapliga programmet vid Mittuniversitetet. Problemet bestod av ett identifierat behov av studentstöd för nya studenter vid programmets första kurs där uppkomna frågor indikerade olika ingångsnivåer av akademisk förberedelse. I enlighet med designforskning konstruerades därför en artefakt som lösning på problemet, som i denna studie bestod av en lärarledd podcast med fem avsnitt. Som teoretiskt ramverk valdes Communities of Inquiry. För att uppnå studiens syfte genomfördes en utvecklingsutvärdering. Insamlingen av empiri gjordes med hjälp av en webb-enkät med 35 respondentsvar, och en semistrukturerad fokusgruppsintervju bestående av fem respondenter. Resultatet har visat att drygt hälften av respondenterna använt sig av artefakten, och den främsta orsaken till att inte lyssna har varit tidsbrist. Vidare visar resultatet att respondenterna som använt artefakten upplevt den som ett stöd i studentblivandet samt som en orsak till minskad upplevd distans mellan student och lärare i kursen. Vidare visade resultatet att respondenter upplevt podcasten som en källa för trygghet och lugn samt bidrag till känsla av tillhörighet och gemenskap. Det framkom också begränsningar och utvecklingsmöjligheter av podcast som medium i denna studie, vilka framför allt varit att podcasten inte varit tillgänglig för studenter med nedsatt hörsel, samt inte kunnat nås via RSS-flöde. Podcasten kan ha bidragit till en ökad lärandegemenskap, detta då samtliga tre närvaroformer av en lärandegemenskap i enlighet med Communities of Inquiry kan ha stärkts med hjälp av podcast som artefakt i denna studie. Slutligen har studien visat på ett möjligt sätt att använda podcast som digitalt verktyg i en kurs vid högre utbildning. Ytterligare behov finns att utforska podcast som didaktiskt verktyg i vidare studier.

This study aimed to explore the potential of a podcast to facilitate the transition of new students into university life. The study was conducted by using design research as its methodological approach, limited to one single iteration cycle, aimed at addressing a specific issue within The Behavioral science program at Mid Sweden University. The core problem identified was the need for enhanced support for new students in the program's initial course, highlighted by the diverse levels of academic preparedness among the students. To address this, a teacher-led podcast comprising five episodes was developed as a solution, in accordance with design research. The theoretical framework for this study was Communities of Inquiry. To fulfill the objectives of this study, a developmental evaluation was carried out. Data were gathered through a web survey, which received 35 responses, and a semi-structured focus group interview with five participants. The findings revealed that slightly more than half of the participants engaged with the podcast. The primary reason for not engaging was a lack of time. The results indicated that those who utilized the podcast experienced that it effectively supported their transition into student life, diminishing the perceived distance between students and teachers in the course. Moreover, the podcast was by the respondents seen as a source of security and calmness, fostering a sense of belonging and community. However, the study also highlighted some limitations, notably the podcast's inaccessibility to students with hearing impairments and its unavailability via RSS feed. The artefact appeared to enhance the learning community, as it potentially strengthened all three forms of presence outlined in the Communities of Inquiry framework. This study underscores the potential of podcasts as a digital tool in higher education settings, suggesting the need for further exploration of their pedagogical utility in future studies.
