Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to explore the role of outdoor recreation in sustainable forest management. The theoretical framework is based on the functions of the forest with a focus on nature’s contribution to people and human-nature relationship through an ecostrategic conceptual framework. Furthermore, the local and visiting outdoor life is explored, where the latter is synonymous with nature tourism in a forest environment. Through qualitative interviews with the local population in Voxnadalen, different views on the local and visiting outdoor life in the forest have been highlighted. The thematic analysis is based on an ecostrategic perspective of the forest, with focus on the local community. The results show that local outdoor life is limited - with a few exceptions - to activities and experiences with minimal impact on the natural environment. The prioritisation of the eco-strategy a dedicated place to be utilised reflects the local community's contemporary values, where the local community cares about the local place and doesn’t want a large-scale domination of the area. By including the local community's values and needs for outdoor recreation, small-scale tourism development can be achieved in connection with sustainable forest management.
