Abstract [en]

The Spectrum standard, developed by Collections Trust in the United Kingdom, was created with the aim of enhancing the documentation and management of museum and cultural institution collections. Its use in documenting and cataloging cultural heritage objects in museums is of paramount importance as it ensures consistency, accessibility, interoperability, and preservation. The research in question seeks to explore the role of the Spectrum standard in representing collections of cultural heritage in digital museum environments, contributing to the understanding and implementation of effective digital representation strategies. The methodological procedures employed were qualitative and exploratory, involving a literature review, a survey of literature, and a content analysis of technical documentation available on the Collections Trust website related to the Spectrum standard. This comprehensive approach allowed for an in-depth understanding of the principles, guidelines, and practical applications of the standard. It can be concluded that the Spectrum standard plays a crucial role in the cataloging and representation of cultural heritage, promoting standardization, accessibility, and preservation of cultural objects. Furthermore, it contributes to data interoperability among institutions, facilitating collaboration and information exchange. The research presents a discussion on the challenges and possibilities of representing cultural heritage in digital environments, highlighting the solutions offered by the Spectrum standard for the cataloging and representation of heterogeneous collections.
