Abstract [en]
Enhancing sexual health promotion among students can be crucial and requires systematic evaluations of interventions as well as fostering stronger collaborations across sectors. SEXIT is a conversation tool and method to identify sexual risk-taking and experience of violence among adolescents, implemented in many Swedish regions, but rarely evaluated. Aim: The aim of this study was to examine youth friendly health care professionals' experiences and insights of using SEXIT. Method: A qualitative study design, where a questionnaire with open-ended questions was applied. Thirty-six youth friendly healthcare providers in the County of Jämtland, educated and experienced in the SEXIT-method were included in the study. Data was collected during an experience exchange day, autumn 2023. Collected data was analysed using content analysis. Results: The analyse revealed four categories that illustrates the participants experience and perceptions of the SEXIT-method, such as it (i) improves screening of sexual health, (ii) identifies differences within the recipients, (iii) promotes profound relationships, (iv) requires supportive leadership. Conclusion: SEXIT facilitates talking to students about topics that are of a difficult and sensitive nature such as sexual risk-taking and violence. The method is easy to integrate into regular operations and employing a method with a scientific foundation instils confidence and security among professionals in their work. SEXIT promotes a profound relationship between students and professionals, however, there is no consensus among respondents as to at what age SEXIT should be implemented. SEXIT is not always used as a routine as intended, and needs time and resources provided by a supported leadership to be successful.
