Since the early days of the internet there has been speculation about it’s potential to change the world as we know it regarding communication and access to information. At the same time, corruption is a present problem in a lot of societies around the world which has awakened the interest to investigate corruption and how it can be affected.
In this study, I seek to explore the relation between access to internet connection and the level of corruption on a global scale and also whether the effect of internet connection withstands when controlled for level of democracy and GDP per capita. The method used to carry through this is two forms of regression analyses which conclude that access to the internet has an effect on the level of corruption, also that the effect of internet connection does not withstand on the same level when controlled for level of democracy and GDP per capita. The results were statistically significant for both regression analyses which confirms what previous research has suggested.
