Abstract [en]

This study has through a qualitative interview method studied teachers’ perception bout what responsibility they have in working to prevent crime, and how teachers, through their informative role, can raise awareness in students for the purpose of preventing victimization. The study has reported that every teacher who was interviewed perceived themselves to have a responsibility in working to prevent crime. The teachers perceived themself to be working to prevent crime by detecting crime, fostering students and by having an informative role. What the teachers perceived their informative role to mean, as well as how they perceived their responsibility, varied. To work crime-preventatively is, however, perceived by the teachers as a difficulty—a difficulty that originates in inadequate education, inadequate resources and non-cooperation.

Abstract [sv]

Denna studie har genom kvalitativ intervjumetod undersökt lärares uppfattning om vilket ansvar de har i att arbeta brottsförebyggande, och hur lärare genom sin informativa roll kan medvetandegöra elever i syfte att hindra viktimisering. Studien har redovisat att samtliga intervjuade lärare uppfattar att de har ett brottspreventivt ansvar. Lärarna ansåg sig utföra ett brottsförebyggande arbete genom att upptäcka brott, fostra elever, och ha en informativ roll. Vad lärarna uppfattade sin informativa roll att innebära varierade, tillika hur de uppfattade sitt ansvar. Att arbeta brottsförebyggande upplevs emellertid av lärarna som en svårighet - en upplevd svårighet som bottnar i bristfällig utbildning, bristfälliga resurser och utebliven samverkan.
