Abstract [en]
In this study, you will be able to read about how Aftonbladet and Expressen report on shootings in Sweden between the time period 2017–2021, during the month of October based on a quantitative content analysis. This study will show an analysis of how the change looks in reports between the years 2017–2022 during the month of October. In connection, it will also be highlighted how shootings are portrayed in each news media and how the news value and the media logic look like in each newspaper.
Theories used in this study are Framing theory to emphasize the media's representations that influence how people interpret reality. As well as media logic theory, because within each medium there are basic norms that create a certain structure for communication which affects people's behavior in shaping their action patterns.
The method used in this study is quantitative content analysis which is functional in this study because the purpose of the study is to find out material about the existence of substantive issues. The study's samples are Aftonbladet and Expressen. These two media were selected because it is the tabloid press that behaves according to media logic theory.
The conclusion of this study shows an increase over time. In 2017, Aftonbladet had reported a total of 12 articles about shootings and Expressen had a total of 10 reports. But in the year 2022, Aftonbladet had a total of 46 reports and Expressen had reported a total of 28 articles. It also turned out that the year with the most reports about shootings was 2021, with a total of 80 articles from both Aftonbladet and Expressen. The design of the reports on shootings in Sweden has varied throughout the ages due to unavailable information. The news value in Aftonbladet and Expressen has been high when it comes to reporting on shootings because shootings are serious events that risk having a major impact on both society and the people concerned
