The purpose of this thesis has been to examine the occurrence of everyday resistance of the Saami population in the county of Gävleborg during the 18th century, associated with the state injunction that the Saami population where forced to turn their rifles in to the sheriff during the period of the year that the game where protected. To do this, the thesis uses the theoretical concept of everyday resistance as has been described by James C. Scott. The primary source material used consists of a series of lists and reports that where produced during the implementation of the state injunction.
The thesis presents a picture of the everyday resistance associated to the state injunction. Avoidance, running away and poaching was the preliminary method of obstruction in the first year, transitioning to a more subtle way of resistance. In order to be able to say for a certainty how the opposition should be classified requires further research where social, cultural and religious aspects need to be considered.
