“Learning in the workplace, above all it's to partake of colleagues' experiences” : A case study about informal learning in a hybrid workplace (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

During the Covid-19 pandemic, many workplaces were forced to change from physical office work to teleworking, and when the pandemic began to subside attitudes toward office work had changed. The hybrid form of work was introduced in many workplaces with office work distributed between telework and the physical office. Learning in the workplace is a major part of many adults' everyday lives and takes place in social contexts. Workplace learning includes both formal and informal components, and informal learning in a hybrid workplace has been the focus of this case study. The study has had a hermeneutic perspective where knowledge has been developed by interpreting the experiences of public authority employees. The experiences that emerged from semi-structured interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis, which resulted in three main themes concerning experiences of learning and collaboration in a hybrid workplace. The results showed that the respondents generally felt more independent and were more motivated regarding their learning than previously. The hybrid approach was perceived to have contributed to more diverse learning in the office, with more collaboration between departments and units than before. By contrast, some respondents experienced some shortcomings in communication and a certain degree of exclusion when working from home. In conclusion, it can be stated that the authority had not worked according to the hybrid way of working long enough to be able to carry out a more in-depth analysis of informal learning at the hybrid workplace.
