Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The goal of this project was to investigate how a user interface for a tool that measures productivity could look like and to create a backend that calculates and stores productivity data for a user. Design thinking was the chosen method for the project. Design thinking is a user centric design method. There were several iterations between the five design thinking phases during the project. Interviews and surveys were conducted to understand how the users of this potential tool would want productivity to be measured and how the result should be presented. A mockup of the tool was tested in two iterations and a usability test for a Figma prototype was performed. The result of the prototype usability tests showed that the suggested user interface was good and that the respondents did not know of a similar tool on the market today. The algorithm in the backend was created based on input from interviews and surveys combined with productivity theory. A database for storing the productivity data was also implemented. Backend functionality was verified with Postman. Design thinking was a good method for this project, but the method would have been more valuable if there had been more people involved in this project. The usability tests showed that the users thought they could improve their productivity with this tool. They also stated that they did not know about a similar tool and that they would recommend a tool like this. The conclusion is there is probably a place for a tool like this based on the user’s feedback. The backend, the prototype and the algorithm created in this project can be seen as a starting point for a complete tool. A future work would include to implement a frontend and to further evaluate the algorithm that calculates productivity. The result would have to mirror the user experience to a medium to high extent for the result to be meaningful.
