Abstract [en]
In this report, you will be able to read about differences and similarities in perception between journalists and citizens when it comes to rape crimes in Sundsvall. Two journalists from SVT or Sveriges Television and three journalists from ST or Sundsvalls tidning were interviewed. In addition, 5 citizens who read and watch these media were also interviewed. The purpose of this scientific research is to understand whether journalists and Sundsvall residents have the same perception when it comes to rape crimes. This is fascinating because rape is an important topic that is regularly discussed in todays society, especially by the media. The media plays an important role in providing us with basic and important information about what is happening not only around the world but also in our communities. With, reporting on an important topic such as rape is very important. The reason for the circumstance is that what the media writes and says has an effect on people. This is presented in a theory used in this report called Dagorningsteori or Agenda Setting. Dagordningteori or Agenda setting says that there is a connection between topics and issues that people think are important and the topics that receive a lot of media coverage. This actively demonstrates that the more a topic or issue is addressed by the media, the more accessible it becomes in our mindset.Through research, interviews and with the help of Dagordningsteori, we have arrived at the conclusion that there more similarities than differences when it comes to the perception of rape crimes between journalists and citizens in Sundsvall. In the interviews, the answers that were given by the journalists and the citizens had a lot in common. When asked the question, women are exposed to more rapes than men? They were given the choices "fully agree, partially agree, hardly and not at all." Everyone who was interviewed said that they completely agree, but even though they agreed with each other, they did not respond in the same way. We also saw a big difference in who had the most knowledge on the subject and it was the journalists.
