As outlined in section 1.1 this study had two aims. The first aim was to identify what grammatical errors are most frequent for learners at this level. The present study found that the most frequent errors are using the wrong tense, article errors, incorrect use of plural or singular, omitting or using too many verbs, using the wrong preposition and omitting or using too many prepositions, as discussed in section 4.2.
The second aim of the present study was to identify what cause of errors (interference/developmental) is dominant. The present study found that interference caused errors related to wrong tense, incorrect use of plural or singular and using the wrong preposition as discussed in sections 4.2.1, 4.2.3 and 4.2.5. It also found that a significant share of article errors was caused by interference as discussed in section 4.2.2. As these errors occur more frequently than errors that cannot be attributed to interference this study finds that interference is the dominant error cause.
