The aim of this paper is to study Swedish Muslims with an academic background and their orientation in society, with a certain focus on secularism based on the ideas of Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas. Through (1) empirical data from interviews of six respondents and (2) documenting concepts of Al-Attas along with (3) theories from recent research, a comparative analysis was carried out comparing the three. A summary of the conclusions is that the respondents found knowledge of their religion as the key for building their relationship with God and orienting in the society, while seeing secular ideas as negatively impacting their faith while a secular state can positively grant freedom of religion and other freedoms. The conclusions in detail followed by a discussion of the results can be found in the end of paper.
