In a student assignment at university first cycle (bachelor) level, students were asked to find as many different views as possible regarding sustainability and sustainable development from any source, literature to speeches overheard in TV, family discussions, social media etc. These examples were then assigned to the paradigm space axis’ found in the course: Strong and weak sustainability, Malthusians and Cornucopians, Funnel and cylinder paradigm, antropocentric vs. ecocentric. At the end seminar for the assignment special attention were given to common graphic representations of sustainability. The “temple” of sustainability and the Venn diagram (interlocked circles) were more commonly connected to the weaker side of sustainability, Cornucopias, and a cylinder paradigm view, while the embedded circles (concentric circles) were more commonly connected to strong sustainability, Malthusians, and a funnel paradigm view.
