Abstract [en]

The fact that the internet and network usage has increased over the years is no news. With the increasing use comes higher demands on speed and reliability of the network components. The starting point of this work has been to investigate how a hypothetical business would be affected by the implementation of a virtualized Opnsense router regarding download and upload speeds in contrast to a commercial router, which in this work has been a Technicolor. The comparison between the different types of routers has processed download and upload speeds and throughput speeds when downloading a file. The work has also examined two VPN protocols available in the Opnsense router. The two protocols that have been compared against each other are the named best and most popular OpenVPN protocol against the latest protocol WireGuard.

 

Abstract [sv]

Att internet och nätverksanvändningen har ökat med åren är ingen nyhet. Med det ökande användandet kommer högre krav på hastighet och tillförlitlighet på nätverksutrustningen. Utgångspunkten i arbetet har varit att undersöka hur en hypotetisk verksamhet skulle påverkas vid implementation av en virtualiserad Opnsense router gällande ned- och uppladdningshastigheter i kontrast till en kommersiell router, som i det här arbetet har varit en Technicolor. Jämförelsen mellan de olika typerna av routrar har behandlat ned- och uppladdningshastighet och genomströmningshastighet vid nedladdning av en fil. Arbetet har även undersökt två VPN protokoll, som finns tillgängliga i Opnsense routern. De två protokollen som har jämförts mot varandra är det utnämnt bästa och populäraste protokollet OpenVPN mot det senaste protokollet WireGuard.
