Abstract [en]

The industrial sector can expect major changes as technology is constantly developing and contributing to new and innovative solutions. Industry 4.0 will result in digitization and automation of several processes which in turn will facilitate and improve business operations. This will consequently demand new and relevant business models that take these technological advancements into account. A company’s value proposition has shown to be one of the aspects of a business model that is most affected by Industry 4.0 and is seen as a building block for companies that want to get closer to this vision. The purpose of this study has therefore been to identify factors for designing value propositions within business models for Industry 4.0. This work is based on a case study at Valmet AB in Sundsvall with a focus on their customers in the paper and pulp industry. The study was conducted using a qualitative exploratory method where the Value Proposition Canvas tool was used as the analytical framework. To find these factors, interviews were conducted with Valmet’s customers regarding their current problems and needs. Compiled data from the customer interviews were addressed in a focus group with relevant stakeholders from Valmet, where the focus was on products and services within Industry 4.0. The study resulted in key factors that represent customer problems and needs, as well as factors that aim to solve these with the help of Valmet’s offerings in Industry 4.0. The study succeeded in identifying several value-creating factors that can help manufacturing companies in designing a value proposition for Industry 4.0.

Industribranschen står inför stora förändringar i och med att teknologin ständigt utvecklas och bidrar med nya samt innovativa lösningar. Industri 4.0 kommer att digitalisera och automatisera flera processer vilket kommer att underlätta och effektivisera företagens verksamhet. Detta ställer också krav på nya och relevanta affärsmodeller som tar hänsyn till denna tekniska framfart. Företagens värdeerbjudande har visat sig vara en av de aspekter i affärsmodellen som påverkas mest av Industri 4.0 och ses som en viktig byggsten för företag som vill komma närmare denna vision. Syftet med denna studie har därför varit att identifiera faktorer för utformningen av värdeerbjudanden inom affärsmodeller för Industri 4.0. Arbetet baserar sig på en fallstudie hos Valmet AB i Sundsvall med ett fokus på deras kunder inom massa- och pappersindustrin. Studien har genomförts med hjälp av en kvalitativ utforskande metod där verktyget Value Proposition Canvas har använts som analytiskt ramverk. För att hitta dessa faktorer har intervjuer utförts hos fallföretagets kunder kring deras nuvarande problem och behov. Sammanställd data från kundintervjuerna adresserades i en fokusgrupp med nyckelpersoner från fallföretaget där produkter och tjänster inom Industri 4.0 stod i fokus. Studien resulterade i faktorer som representerar kundernas problem och behov samt faktorer som syftar till att lösa dessa med hjälp av fallföretagets erbjudande inom Industri 4.0. Studien lyckades identifiera ett antal värdeskapande faktorer som kan hjälpa tillverkningsföretag att utforma ett värdeerbjudande för Industri 4.0.
