Electing representatives into government is the basis of democracy. In a democratic country, people are supposed to have the final say on who governs the affairs of the country. This work focuses its study on how godfathers in Nigerian political system influence the electioneering and electing of representatives into government. The study examined the forms of godfatherism, what promotes it and its effect in the Nigerian political and election process based on conversational interview research method to get information from 5 reputable elites in Nigeria. The study shows that godfatherism is an imperative aspect of the Nigerian political system and election process.
