Abstract [en]
The research problem on which this study is based on is that female and male politicians are represented differently in the media based on their gender. This was realized in the study by studying how media news reporting by Annie Lööf and Jan Björklund was presented during the government formation in 2019. The purpose of this was to understand and explain how media reporting is characterized by preconceived and stereotypical beliefs based on gender.
Ten articles were studied between the time period January 21 and February 1, 2019. A qualitative method was used, through a qualitative text analysis. The framing theory and the media logic was taken into account in the development and understanding of the analysis, in order to explain in the results through Yvonne Hirdman's gender theory.
The result shows that the media is characterized by the framing theory and media logic techniques in the production of articles, and that gender theory can explain the variation in the presentation between Annie Lööf and Jan Björklund.
The conclusion is that the media is characterized by preconceived and stereotypical beliefs based on gender, and that this confirms what much previous research has shown.
