Syftet med denna studie har varit att undersöka politikens förekomst på sociala medier och om användandet av sociala medier i politiska sammanhang kan påverkas av medborgares personliga egenskaper. Studiens främsta intresse var att studera medborgarnas användning av sociala medier i politiska sammanhang. För att undersöka detta har studien utförts med hjälp av en kvantitativ metod. Undersökningen utgjordes av en helstrukturerad enkät som respondenterna besvarade digitalt online. Studiens resultat visade att sociala medier är vanligt förekommande i medborgares politiska aktivitet och medborgares personliga egenskaper påverkar användandet eller icke-användandet av sociala medier i politiska sammanhang.

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study has been to examine the presence of politics in social media and if the usage of social media in political contexts can be influenced by the citizens' personal characteristics. The study's primary interest was to study citizens' use of social media in political contexts. The chosen method for this study was a quantitative method, consisted of a structured survey that the respondents answered digitally online. The result of the study indicates that social media is a common occurrence in citizens' political activity and that the citizens' personal characteristics affects the use or non-use of social media in a political aspect.
