Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Emotion perception is a part of emotional intelligence and means the ability to recognize emotional expressions in other people. Earlier research has shown the link between emotional intelligence, effective leadership and competitive organizations. There is only one previous study that have considered the relationship between leaders' emotional perception and their respective employee turnover, whereupon the present study has chosen to replicate the existing study to contribute further empirical material to the area. The hypothesis was that leaders with a low emotional perception ability would have a higher employee turnover. To measure the emotional perception of leaders, an emotional perception test called Emotion Recognition Accuracy Multimodal has been used. The test consists three different modalities (video clips, audio files and video clips with audio), which all contains 24 expressed emotions. Employee turnover has been calculated as a percentage (number of employee turnover/total number of employees). 36 leaders (2 women and 34 men) in Swedish industry participated in the study. The results from the collected data did not support the study's hypothesis, but other notable results were found for different emotional modalities. The lack of a significant result is due to a very low spread in data from employee turnover.
