Abstract [en]

Gender as perspective has had a limited impact on Informatics educations. In this article it is argued that a key problem is that the potential gender as perspective has to enrich Informatics has not been fully explored. The aim with this research is to aid Informatics departments in this exploration by addressing the research question: What potential has gender as perspective to enrich the Informatics education? This research question is addressed in an ongoing action research project in which researchers cooperates with representatives for one Informatics department in Sweden. It was shown that at this particular department some work had been done to realize the potential of the gender-perspective but much was still to do. To understand the potential already implemented as well the not potential not yet explored the concepts of "power" and "voice" are introduced as ways of addressing gender. By using these concepts the following potential was identified: the systems development project is about power, the developer is an authority with an authoritative voice and with the power to listen to and give voice to other actors, a need of voice sensitive methods and that the artifact developed was an extension of the developer’s voice.
