Identifying Difficulties in Including Gender in Informatics Education

Abstract [en]

This article reports on the diagnosing phase of an Canonical action research project of the process of including gender into the Informatics education and the perceived difficulties for this inclusion. In this particular study a group of PhD-students in Informatics, their perception of gender and perception of difficulties in including gender into the Informatics education, is researched.  For the analysis of this research an analytic tool has been developed based on the perception of gender as being about knowledge but also an innovation with attributes such as Relative advantage, Compatibility, Complexity, Trialability and Observability. In the particular setting researched the two attributes in focus became Observability and Trialability. The action that is suggested to be taken is to communicate the need of a milieu to try gender on and that this work is observable to others at the department to the management of the department.
