Abstract [en]

How the European Union is handling the migration crisis has direct implicationson the human rights and security for human beings. Therefore the aims of this thesis, is to investigate what approach the EU have towards human rights and security. Also to identify how their approach towards migration and how that implicates on how they are handling the crisis. This will happen through reviewing press releases and policy proposals by the European Commission. There are two theoretical views applied, that stands for two different perspectives in this thesis. The universalistic perspective that obtains the human rights perspective, and the other perspective is security which is covered by the seccuritization theory. Three identified themes will compose three levels of analysis, creating the context for this thesis. The purpose of the three themes is to make it easier to identify EUs approach and how EU is considering security versus human rights. The analysis shows that the EU is including some and excluding others, by categorizing migrants and viewing migrants though a negative perspective. Also that the main focus in all three themes lies at the EUs own security and that they are interfering with people´s right to seek asylum.
